My First Cargo Trailer Build - Part One
When I first acquired this cargo trailer 13 years ago I never thought I would use it for anything else other than storage in my side yard. I thought this would be a fairly straightforward upgrade for a recreational trailer build...throw on some insulation and it's done kind-of-thing. Nope! When I found out it's highly recommended to insulate the sub-floor (the underbelly), that's when I knew this was turning into a much bigger project. Looking back, the one thing I would do differently is remove all the old caulking FIRST, then the panels, instead of trying to save myself time and money by working around it, which caused the opposite to occur. Live and Learn! So, as I start on the other trailer wall, things are moving along much smoother. Stick around for the rest of my rustic cargo trailer build, coming soon. :)

How to Store Your Bulk Food Purchases from Azure Standard
Peace of mind...that's what many of us are after these days.
One way to begin feeling that way is putting up bulk food for long-term storage. Whether its dry canning, dehydrating or vacuum sealing, they all provide peace of mind at the end of the day for you and your family. :)
I really enjoy buying from Azure Standard, which delivers your food order to a designated drop-site each month in your nearest town or city. I highly recommend it. They sell everything from a large selection of flours and grains, to pet food, to gardening supplies, and everything in between. https://www.azurestandard.com
Take care, see you in the next one...
Here's the link to my previous Bulk Food Storage Methods video that I mentioned in today's video:

Planting My First Sweet Potato Slips
Caterpillars, fertilizer and sweet potatoes, oh my!
Join me briefly in the garden (and kitchen) as I tinker with my very FIRST sweet potato slips, ever. :) They took quite awhile to break through the surface of the soil, but about 50% are up and developing greens. Check out my complete garden update here:

Truck Build 2022 **No Plans Used**
As much as I would LOVE to own a full-sized RV or pop-up trailer, this works for now with the space I have. Going into this project, I only had a vague idea of what I wanted the outcome to be; so much of what I did was off the cuff.
The expenses consisted of the 1" RMAX foam board x 4 ($127) and the 25' roll of Reflectix ($45) from Home Depot. While the Fuze-It adhesive tubes x 2 ($30), the tan Liquid Nails adhesive tubes x 2 ($16), and the fiberglass kit ($20) were purchased from Amazon, links below. More than I wanted to spend overall, but still a LOT cheaper than buying an RV trailer. ;)

Leaking Outdoor Spigot Valve! *DIY Repair*
DIY projects can be great sometimes, it allows us to save some money, maybe learn a new skill, even feel self-efficient...but there are times when it can be a major challenge full of obstacles! And that includes local stores not supplying the parts you need ;) Well, those are the moments when you take a step back to gain a new perspective and start fresh. I had no intention of entering the crawl space to suss out the situation, but realized 'why not?' Worse case scenario I learn something new, right? :) Right! Nothing wrong with obtaining new knowledge, especially on the homestead.

Homemade Chicken Broth for Winter
As autumn approaches, many of us begin to have thoughts of soups, stews and broth, especially when they're homemade. In my humble opinion, they are THE best meals during the cooler months, as they all provide comfort, sustenance, and warmth. (Beef stew is by far my favorite, paired with a glass of red wine, but that's for another video.)
**Before starting pressure canning in your area, be sure to check the user manual for processing times and which setting to use on the weighted gauge.
*See how I used chicken broth in a recipe, in my pressure canning video:

Praying Mantids Hatch on Mothers Day! :)
Watching Mother Nature has always been a favorite past time of mine, and seeing these little guys come into the world was no exception. I started the nursery in a 1-gallon jar w/ 'cheesecloth lid' about a month prior to hatching, placed it in my interior greenhouse that I use for my orchids (at about 70-75 degrees F.), kept the jar in the shade, and waited. Patiently.
It was well worth it!

Economical Gravity-Fed Water Filtration System **No Electricity Needed**
This was LONG overdue for me! Sometimes I just have to rip off the band-aid and do it.
Assembly was so simple, honestly, and after I hand-washed everything in warm soapy water it only took about 10 minutes. Easy peazy. I love that it filters lead and fluoride, & it's a great off-grid option as well. :)

Bulk Food Storage Methods
I prefer to purchase a lot of my food in bulk, which means there's some work involved with the storage process. There are many different ways to go about doing this, so in today's video I feature dry canning, vacuum sealing, and good ole fashioned jars on the shelf (for those items eaten regularly and don't last long). If you're not using Azure Standard yet, you should look into it and see if there's a drop location near you. ;) https://azurestandard.com
