Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince (Switch) | Part 1 w/ Commentary | Platypunk, I Choose You!
Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince is a role-playing video game developed by Tose and published by Square Enix for the Nintendo Switch. It is the seventh game in the Dragon Quest Monsters series following Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3 and the first to be released outside of Japan since Joker 2 in 2011.
The game stars Psaro, the main antagonist from Dragon Quest IV, set before the events of that game, on his quest to defeat his father who cursed him, by becoming a 'monster wrangler'. It was released worldwide on December 1, 2023 and received generally favorable reviews from critics.
Psaro challenged his father, the cruel monster king and ruler of Nadiria, Randolfo the Tyrant. As punishment for his defiance, Randolfo curses Psaro, making him unable to cause harm to any monster, before exiling him to Terrestria. Bent on revenge, Psaro vows to lift the curse, return to Nadiria, and usurp Randolfo. Taking refuge in the human village Rosehill, Psaro finds a loophole to his inability to harm monsters in the art of monster wrangling. By becoming a monster master, he can have his allies defeat monsters for him, circumventing his curse. A retired monster master and villager named Monty gifts the prince his first monster, and teaches him the basics of monster wrangling. Psaro soon meets a fugitive elf, whom he names Rose, as she lacks a name. She accompanies Psaro and allows him entry to Nadiria with her unique elfin magic.
The game's plot serves as both prequel and gaiden to the events of Dragon Quest IV, with the storylines of the two games overlapping at points.

Until Dawn (PS4) Gameplay | Part 2 w/ Commentary | The Big Twist!! And it kind makes sense . . .
Until Dawn is a 2015 interactive drama horror video game developed by Supermassive Games and published by Sony Computer Entertainment for the PlayStation 4. Players assume control of eight young adults who have to survive on Blackwood Mountain when their lives are threatened. The game features a butterfly effect system in which players must make choices that may change the story. All playable characters can survive or die, depending on the choices made. Players explore the environment from a third-person perspective and find clues that may help solve the mystery.
The game was originally planned as a first-person game for the PlayStation 3's motion controller PlayStation Move. The motion controls were dropped when it became a PlayStation 4 game. The story was written by Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick, who sought to create the video game equivalent of a slasher film. The development team took inspiration from various sources. These include the movies Evil Dead II and Poltergeist, and video games Heavy Rain, Resident Evil, and Silent Hill. To ensure the game was scary, the team used a galvanic skin response test to measure playtesters' fear levels when playing it. Jason Graves composed the soundtrack and Guerrilla Games' Decima game engine was used for the graphics. Several noted actors, including Rami Malek, Hayden Panettiere, Meaghan Martin, Brett Dalton, Jordan Fisher, Nichole Bloom, and Peter Stormare, provided motion capture and voice acting.

Fatal Frame (Xbox) | Final Part w/ Commentary | Headless Priests and the Shrine Maiden
Apparently, the first Fatal Frame is based on a true story. After playing it for two minutes the idea of that seems ridiculously, but that is the claim made on the box art.
Fatal Frame is a survival horror video game developed by Tecmo for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. The first installment in the Fatal Frame / Project Zero series, it was released in 2001 in Japan and 2002 in North America and Europe. An enhanced port for the Xbox was released in 2002 in North America and 2003 in Japan and Europe.
Set in the year 1986, the story follows siblings Miku and Mafuyu Hinasaki. When Mafuyu disappears while searching for a famous novelist in the haunted Himuro Mansion, his sister Miku goes to find him. During her exploration of the mansion, she discovers clues as to the fate of those who entered, must fight hostile ghosts, and discover the truth behind a dark ritual that took place there. The gameplay focuses on the siblings exploring the mansion, and fighting off hostile ghosts using a special camera.

Parasite Eve | Ex Game Run
I played Parasite Eve at a friend's house in middle school, when he rented it. I thought the game was awesome and scary, but never got a chance to really dive into it. I picked up the physical copy 7 or so years ago and I finally got around to playing it!
From the Wikipedia article:
Parasite Eve is a 1998 role-playing video game developed and published by Square. The game is a sequel to the novel Parasite Eve, written by Hideaki Sena; it is the first game in the Parasite Eve video game series. The story follows New York City police officer Aya Brea over a six-day span in 1997 as she attempts to stop the Eve, a woman who plans to destroy the human race through spontaneous human combustion. Players explore levels set in areas of New York while utilizing a pausable real-time combat system along with several role-playing elements.
Parasite Eve was SquareSoft's first M-rated game, and the first major American and Japanese game development collaboration for the company. It was produced by Hironobu Sakaguchi and directed by Takashi Tokita. Music for the title was composed by Yoko Shimomura who was widely acclaimed for her work to create an "inorganic" and "emotionless" soundtrack that saw two album releases. Parasite Eve received positive reviews; critics praised the graphics and gameplay, but found the overall game too linear and with little replay potential.
The video game adaptation was part of a resurgence of popularity in Japanese horror sparked by the original book, and was released alongside a film adaptation and two manga comics; one based on the book, the other on the video game. The original title was followed by two video game sequels: Parasite Eve II in 1999 and The 3rd Birthday in 2010, and was re-released on the PlayStation Network in 2010. The first two games, Parasite Eve and Parasite Eve II, had shipped over 3 million copies worldwide by 2010.
Like other role-playing video games made by Square for the PlayStation, Parasite Eve was made during a period that Peter Tieryas of Kotaku described as an "experimental period" where nearly every role-playing video game from the company had unique combat mechanics.
Movement in the "world map" (which is a map of Manhattan) is limited to specific destinations. Upon the player walking over a "hot spot", there's a chance of a random encounter. Enemies materialize and attack players on the same screen that they move Aya around on, with no battle mode or screen being used. In battle, the game uses a pausable real-time combat system with an Active Time Bar (ATB) that sets the time that must be waited till the player can take their next action. While waiting for her turn, the player character Aya can be moved around to dodge enemy attacks. Upon each turn, the player may choose between attacking with their equipped weapon by pressing the attack button, using Parasite Energy (PE) for defense, assistance, or attack, using items, changing a weapon or armor, or escaping the battle. If the player chooses to attack, the battle briefly pauses and a dome/sphere symbolizing the range of the weapon appears, allowing the player to target an enemy within range. PE recharges during battle but the more players use it, the slower it refills.
When not in battle, the player has the option of altering the weapon and armor attributes and effects with tools and super-tools, which are limited in number. The player selects the "tune-up" option, choosing the weapon that will be altered and the weapon from which the attributes or effect will be taken. Weapons have many different properties, including special effects like "acid", which causes enemies to continuously take damage, One of the principal role-playing elements of the game is that experience-based levels are present. Each time the player's level increases, their attributes go up and Bonus Points (BP) are given. These points can be distributed to the ATB, item capacity, or attributes of a weapon or armor.
Once the game is completed, a new game plus mode is available called "EX game". It is different from normal play in various aspects; the player has access to every item stored in the police station, the game begins with the final weapon and armor the player chose before ending the first game but returns to level one experience, and the bonus points (BP) given to the player at the end of the game are now available to use. The items, weapons, power-ups and enemies are more powerful, as are the enemies the player encounters. However, the biggest difference from the normal game is the addition of the Chrysler Building, a new location with 77 floors (containing mostly randomized content), leading to a final boss battle with Aya's older sister, Maya.

Parasite Eve | Part 2 w/ Commentary | NYPD 17th Precinct Attacked! | Horror Gaming for Halloween!

Silent Hill 3 | Final Part w/ Commentary | Birth of a God | Horror Gaming for Halloween!
Silent Hill 3 is a 2003 survival horror game developed by Team Silent, a group in Konami Computer Entertainment Tokyo, and published by Konami. The game was released from May to August, originally for the PlayStation 2. The third installment in the Silent Hill series and a direct sequel to the first Silent Hill game, it follows Heather, a teenager who becomes entangled in the machinations of the town's cult, which seeks to revive a malevolent deity.
Originally planned to be a rail shooter, as a result of the initially slow sales of Silent Hill 2 in Japan, Silent Hill 3 was developed almost simultaneously alongside another installment in the series, Silent Hill 4: The Room (2004). Among the influences on Silent Hill 3 are the film Jacob's Ladder and the works of horror novelist Stephen King. Silent Hill 3 sold more than 300,000 copies by November 2003 and was critically successful, garnering praise for its presentation, including the environments, graphics and audio, as well as the overall horror elements and themes that are continued from past installments; there also were minor criticism of the game's short length, camera, and gameplay mechanics. Its plot was loosely adapted into the 2012 film Silent Hill: Revelation 3D.
In this episode, we finally reach the thrilling conclusion to Silent Hill 3!

Fatal Frame (Xbox) | Part 2 w/ Commentary | Hide-and-Seek
