22 Deer Walk Under My Stand -looking four acres and the remnants of my pre-plot!!
I was hunting my best stand, which isn a small stand of oaks with about 100 square feel of lettuce and clover I planted in summer. The plot had long since been mowed down wby the deer, but they still sometimes swing by and nibble on what's left, and root around for acorsn, even though this was a bad year for acorns. The deer are obviously hungry and struggling to find food, with shellack of acorns Have a large 2 acre foot plot about 75 yards from this stand, but unfortunately I planted it too late, due to weather conditions out of my control (no rain),soothes usually head straight there On this day, a doe and her yearling fawn were munching around under me when I saw momma start staring down wind. Which was weird, since they usually stare up wind. She was clearly watching something.I thought maybe a coyote> Then all of a sudden,I see this string of deer making their way over. They just of thought there was a good food source there because within 2 minutes Had 22 deer under me. Two were young bucks. Two small 4 points, who were fun to watch. The does get grumpy and bitchy when in close proximity like this. They bite and kick and grunt at each other. Bucks did what young bucks do, try to impress the ladies but racking their antlers in low hanging branches, making little scraps like they have seen big bucks do.They sniffed the behinds of the does and chased them around, in the hope that, by se freak chance, one wild be reception and tel him have sex with her. ever happened. The doesONLY mate with mature bucks, like humans, The females want to pass their bloodline to the biggest strongest smartest, which means large mature bucks. Still it was fun to watch the little bucks. Was like watching a 14 year old boy in a strip club. He tried but the girls were like, no thanes kid. So funny. They all hung around for about 10 minutes and then started making their way towards my big plot, where there is some growth, but not nearly as much as I had hoped for. Still, l it is a food source and they all headed thereto eat. I have seen up to 15 deer swing by before, and on average I see 5-7 deer every evening, but I had never seen a herd of 22 deer just milling abut. They are true social creatures, and fun to watch when they have no idea you are there. I use extreme scent control tactics, from showering in scent free soap before every hunt, towering all scent free clothes washed with set free soap, to a $250 ScentLock cammo suit over everything. I spray down with scent killer, I even eat an apple as soon as I get there to cover my breath a little. It all works, obviously. I have very few deer bust me this year, when I years past they busted almost every bight. They just don't know I am there. I am also 35' feet up, much higher than I should be. I won't even get into the dangerous of climbing into my stand. One wrong move and it's a wheelchair for the rest of my life, best scam scenario. You just cannot make a sage mistake climbing in.
Anyway, I wanted to share this hunt with you. I hunt with a bow so mrs season is not over. But the odds of me harvesting a large mature buck are slim. Very slim. But not impossible. I have several large bucks using my property daily. They are extremely smart. I had two bucks come intron nights in a row, up wind, and I was able to grunt then. But itv was too dark to shoot so I had to hold back. The buck was so close I could hear him breathing! Maybe 20 yards away. But I couldn't determine if he was a mature buck, but used n his behavior I am 99% sure he was, He came right in and hit a scrape. When I grunted, he snortwheezed and stormed over from the scrape. Small bucks Don't snort wheeze and they arena;y bold enough to charge into a fight. If they do, they are big bad asses, and it happened literally exactly the same two bights in a row. The irony was, there was another buck just down wind, and when he saw big dog, he high talked it out of there. LOL Nice pun.
This is my life and I love being part of the ecosystem. I probably won't harvest a deer this year. I have neat from last year's bucking still in the freezers. I don't kill t kill. If I do the a large buck I will have it mounted, and give most of the meet t an old retired friend of mine who can use the meat. He is always very grateful when I give hi salmon and deer. I am content to just watch the deer. Believe it or not, this stand is only 2--00-250 yards as the crow flies from my backdoor. I designed the land and the stand in a way that would bring the deer to me, and I wouldn't have to intrude on bedding. I can sneak in silently, with the deer between 75-300 yards bedded, This helps. You don't want to crash through the woods to get in your stand. Not when you are hunting only 20 acres, I am very pleased with my results this year. I would never go hungry in an apocalypse. LOL Hunting is one of my greatest joys, and I wish more people wold get out and try it. Problem is, it requires getting off social media and TV, and getting into reality. And it is a VERY VERY HAARD ACTIVITY. Requires absolute concentration, patience, and skill. The average person, if you told them gorilla a deer with a bow they would hunt the rest of their lives and likely never even see a deer, let alone kill one at 20 yards. But you can learn and get better. I got luck on my first buck 4 years ago. But last year, I killed an 8 point on pure skill, first day I hunted a new property. I had to scout for 6 hours and wait for the right wind, Then I came ini saw the luck grunted it in and made a perfect kill shit at 30 yards. I am still learning, obviously. Some guys can get a big one every year. I'm not there yet. Maybe someday after I buy some more property, I will get there. For now,I are the best of what I got, and certainly cannot complain with the results. In tiger end, it is the experience I am after. Off social media, away from my computer, time alone with God and nature. Priceless!
I hope these vids inspire you to put the phone down and do something remarkable. Doesn't;t have to be hunting. That is MY thing. What is yours? Find it and get there. Maybe most a video and inspire the next man. Playbit forward. We are losing reality to virtual reality. People are firgettubg how cook ad excite reality is, so layout forward Go do something cool and kasha it nb FB IG, or wherever.God bless. Go enjoy life, If I get a buck, you'll know. Until then, days like this are my drug, I am so thankful to GOD that He has instilled in me the one for the outdoors, and I don't have a resentment towards anyone I just go live. We ask should.

Hunting The Snow Is Magical
Man, I wasn't able to get this on camera but I had 7 does fighting under my tree last night, because I sprayed doe in heat urine. It was really bizarre watching them all fight and sniff each other's asses. Also, the night before, I called in a huge buck. I cannot believe I didn't get a shit. Maybe tonight. I am headed out there now. Freakin huge buck just barely beats me. We got a blizzard and a foot of snow. Too dangerous to climb up in my stand, but I am going to hunt under a tree where the monster keeps scrapping. I will be down wind about 30 yards. If he shows up, he is mine!

I miss summer already!!
Just pining for summer already. Found some snippets of trout and salon. I have thousands of videos. I figured I’d share a few. All I have is work—writing—, deer hunting and snowmobiling to look forward to all winter. It’s so long and cold. But I get a ton of work done so I can play hard with Maria in the spring. Can’t sit to return to my new secret trout Rivers!!!

Day 7 - Salmon Run - Epic
This has been truly an epic season for salmon. Biggest run I have ever seen. The irony is, I harvested like 50 fish 4 years ago, and worried that would impact this year'd run. Nope. Best of all, these have been ALL wild fish. Meaning, not stocked, but born there. Stocked fist have their adipose fins clipped. I didn't catch a single stocked fish this year. Every fish was wild. Amazing. There were so many fish we actually got bored of catching them. Which is typically impossible for me. LOL Some were hooked legally in the mouth. Others fouled hooked accidentally Didn't matter. Every fish was released. Well, I kept one big fresh silver fish on day. After that, all catch and release. I love sharing the experience with friends. Makes it that much sweeter, to share a little slice of the secret paradise where I live. I love this place. And I love my life. I pray to God everyday and thank Him for putting me in a position to where I get to enjoy His beauty and bounty. These are the days I dreamed of in prison for 13 years. Literally. So dreams DO come true. I am living proof. Life is good. I share these videos to inspire YOU to get outside, chase dreams, and live your best life. It is the little things that make us truly happy. NOT fortune and fame. Not money and things. Memories are what count. The rest will fall into place if you just give God His due glory, and work hard to be your best you. That is the law of the universe. Work, focus, and put God first. Do that, and watch what happens. Spend your time on positive things. Shy away from negative behavior and negative people. Never care what people say or think. Just be your best you, and always, ALWAYS, put God in charge of your life. Miracles happen. Give it a shot. I have just one more salmon video for you, and then it is jones till next season for me. BUT, it is now deer season. SO I will channel my passion and energy into that. Not expecting to shoot the deer I want. I am after a 3-4 year old mature buck. Nothing else. Slim chance. They tend to be much smarter than me. LOL But I study, maneuver and adapt. I only have 20 acres, but I am surrounded by thousands of acres that are barely or not even hunted. So there is a chance. Doesn't matter of I get one. I justify enjoy being in the tree, watching them. My happy place. I hope this inspires you to find yours! Put God first. Watch what happens, Thank me later.

The Circle Is Complete - The Art Has Been Passed To The Next Generation
This was really a great experience for me. Just have a listen to the story. Strange how things can go full circle. It was an honor and pleasure to pass the torch to the next generation, as it had been passed to me 40 years ago. Mike is such a gentlemen and fun guy. His son Noah was a respectful and fun young man to guide and hang out with all day. It was an honor to show them my secret salmon fishing spot. I made them swear to never tell a soul where we were. If they did, we would have a problem. I like to keep this gem to myself. Call me selfish, I don't care. There is nothing worse than walking up to your favorite stream to find 276 idiots fighting, arguing, snagging, drinking and acting like morons. No, I want my place for me. I trusted them.
Enjoy the video I just made a short highlight real of some of the catches. Sadly, we are only able to catch the tail end )no pun intended LOL) of the battles, as the first half the fish are going ballistic and we cannot video. After a few minutes, the fish calms down and we can pull the camera out. Wish we had a camera man to show you some of the insane battles we had. At times were were running down the river after monsters. The kid was good. He learned fast. Caught right up to me. I've never seen that before. Usually I catch 10 to 1 on rookies This kid hung fish for fish. Maybe did better. But I did make some incredible epics precision casts that blew his mind. On my fist fish, I flipped a spawn bag into a 2' inch slot between a big female and a male. I didn't want the female is I jerked the bait away from her, into the mouth of the make, which shot 75 yards down stream and eventually broke my 40 test Spider Wire, nearly ripping my finger off in the process. Good times. LOL

Day 2 Salmon Raun _ I Land My First King Of THE Year... Kind of LOL
If you know me, you know fishing is one of my greatest life passsios, seacond only to writing. I wait all year for this time of year. The secret local river I fish only has a small run of fish, and a very short window to fish them.. So I obsessive them when they come in. I am very blessed that I work for myself I can break away from work to fish anytime. I am incredibly busy with mh new book andnanother project, but this is something I always make time for. ,I obsesssnto the point I dont eat, I dont shave, I don't do anything. I become a man possessed. The rush of fighting thesenfosh in a small river euphoric and drunk-like. I don't even keep them. I just revel in the battle. These fresh king salmon are gladiatosrs of the sea. Um, lake. Um, river. It is an incredible rush to land one on your own, with no net. You lose most oof them, but when you grab bye the tail, there isa sense of accomplishment that is hard to describe. I wish everyone could do it. Come see me and I'll take you. I had fans andnnew friends come up and do it. Now they look forward t9o it all year like I do Definitely addicting, Hard to video while fighting. I try my best to at least some of the battle on video, Enjoy. Kore to come..This was yesterday.Todayb I did even better. I attained a MONSTER!

First Day Of The Salmon Run. Things Are About To Be Crazy!
This was my first day on the salmon river. Not many fish but it was fun and exciting to be out there at my happy place. Salmon are definitely one of my life passions. The run here is very short. Prime is maybe 7-10 days, and you have to time it perfectly. I know my river so well from 6 years of fishing it. Even when I lived on the Ozarks for a year, I still make the 2000 mile run north to get some fishing in. Had a great time as always. I'm headed back out now. The weather is dreary and cold, perfect for the run. My little river, about 30 min from my house, is a secret gem and rarely do I see other fishermen. The way I like it. I like having the forests to myself. I do enjoy taking friends fishing too, but I Donn't ind being alone. As you can seee, I am very much enjoying myself, and a. Brea away from the computer. I have been working 8-10 hours day between my new book and another project I'm now part of, bug always remember to wget out and enjoy life. It is too short to always work and never play. Nah, not me. Work hard, play harder. I learned that a in prison. Time. We only have so much of it. So get out there and find your happy place. This is mine. Go inspire people to live. Make memories. Virtual reality is not real. It's fake, And if all you ever do is spend you life on nick, what does that make you? Something to think about. Social media is a brain sucking waste of life, Grab a friend, go do somet8hg remarkable. Then. post it to inspire others to do the same. This is my life mission. Hope fun enjoy then video. Many more salmon videos to come over the net few weeks. If you get bored of them sorry. Don't watch. LOL It never gets old for me. The run only comes once a year, for a few days, and hit is the harbinger of winter, when besides deer hunting all I will be doing is snowmobiling and working. Such is life in northern Michigan. There is always next spring trout fishing to look forward to >OL

Maria Recounts The Scariest Moment of Her Life - She thought I was killed in the bush!
This is both a sad and intense video, where Maria recounts how a few days ago she thought I had been killed while deep in the wilderness fishing in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. She held it together good for the video, as she talks, but she was hysterical only a few minutes earlier. Literally choking down tears, as she cried. This truly is one of those bizarre anomalies I've ever experienced in life. Everything had to happen perfectly for it to happen at all. We were 14 miles back in some of the most remote wilderness in the lower 48 states. We had been there several times previously, and naturally saw no one. Not a single car or sign of life. Which is the reason the little creek has huge brook trout--nobody fishing them. We kissed goodbye, and I set off on an exploratory mission. About 1.5 miles up I was hoping I could cut through the beaver swamp and find the river. Very very sketchy and dangerous. An average of 70 people a year vanish from gigs part of Michigan every year. Most just stupidly get los.t. I have come very close. The possibility of getting lost is high, unimaginable. There is nothing for many miles in every direction. There are wolves, bears, lions, and Gold only knows what else. I'll publis another video of the walk in, as I felt this one deserved to be alone.
After walking close to a half mile, I suddenly started hearing a man yelling frantically across the valley. I guessed him about 1/3rd of a mile away. Very bizarre since we never see anyone out there, le alone someone yelling for dear life. Maria heard it and radioed me, but like a dumb ass I had forgotten to turn mh radio on. There wa more yelling. She thought she heard "Maria!! Help!" Yes this guy was yelling frantically for about a minute. Never knew why. Maria was freaking out. She became desperate, running up and down the trail to try to get a better signal on the radio. Twince she ran a quarter mile o the bdcige over the creek. Nothing . Radio silence. I was deep in the bush, and she was all alone back near the czar and river access point. She had been quietly hunting mushrooms when the yelling stared. She grabbed the first aid kid and began preparing for the worst. Then the yelling stopped, and she thought, tragically, I had expired. There she was, 14 miles off the already super remote road, in the wilderness. No phone signal. Alone. And in her mind, she was convinced that I had injured myself and lost my radio. "Impaled on a stick," she said, on the bottom of some cliff, bleeding out, unable to even yell anymore. Maybe I was attacked by a bear or mountain lions? Maybe wolves? Maybe I had a broken leg or back? Maria, God bless her soul, was coming to save me regardless. But what would she do? I'm a 230 lb man a half mile from the ca, on the side of.a cliff. Impossible to drag me out. No phone signal so 911 was out. She ddn't care. She was coming to save me. Now THAT is gangster. THAT is why I married her. That is why she is my forever angel from GOD! Eventually, when I made it back, she was ecstatic and balling. Every horrible scenario imaginable had flashed through her mind. Even funeral arrangements, the future of my unpublished works, on and on. Can you imagine the trauma? You think your greatest treasure, your most loved love one, is impaled on a log in the wilderness, or just attacked by a bear, bleeding out, dying, and YOU are the only hope? I hope I never experience that. I can't imagine. I don't want to imagine. Horrible. But she was a trooper. Listen to her tell the story. I make light of it, but the truth is, what we do out there , is extremely dangiouers and risky. Many bad things can happen. But for us, it is a risk we are willing to take, we love it out there that much. I tell her alll the time, if I go out this way, it's okay, I'm going out doing what I love. She gets it. It's what she loves too. Which is why we are Ying and Yang.

Your Heart Is Where Your Passion Is - Get There. Live
This is a funny video of around my house, prepping my deer plot for the upcoming deer season. I am super excited, but honestly not that hopeful of scoring a bigger buck than last year. Which is my goal. I will Not harvest a buck unless he is bigger than my previous buck. Which means a 3.5 year old or better. And I will admit, those bucks are usually smarter than my skill level. If I had more property,I might have a chance. But since all I have is 20 acres, I have to do my best to make the habituate attractive to does, and hope the bucks will come around in rut and not make me in the tree. They will, but hopefully I get a clear shot before one busts me. I give myself a 10% chance. Still, I love being ou there with the deer, so I win regardless. I still have plenty of meat from last year. NO need to even harvest a doe unless one of my friends needs the meat, in which case I would be happy to harvest a mature doe. I just love being in the woods, watching the deer. It is my passion and happy place. I hope that some of you watch this and are inspired to get out and discover your passion, and find your happy place. The sense of joy and peace is truly priceless. This is what I dreamed about in prison. Now I am literally living the dream. God is Great!

A Cool Little Adventure I Did Yesterday Paid Off Big! One of My biggest Ever Brook Trout!
I chronicle my adventures not to say "look at me," I do it for you, with the hopes that maybe you will remember how fun living in the real world is. Watch this view through. Look and see the genuine glee on my face when I land that hog brook trout, a fish that is only 14" inches long, and yet a trophy class fish for anyone who knows brook trout. I was so excited I was literally shaking. All alone on the wilderness, living my dreams. Yes this was my dream while in prison. I didn't think about Lambos and mansions from my books. I dreamed of this video, being alone (or with a good friend) in the deep wilderness, catching those tiny little amazing fish. I had only done it twice before prison, but had fallen head over heels in love with it. The setting, the ambiance. the smell. It is sop special. Big brookies are literally THE hardest fish to catch in fresh water. Hands down. And it takes a well honed set of skills to do it. Requires a LOT of hard work. But the reward is immense. Just being there is the ultimate reward, with God, in His bedroom. I drove my enduro dirt bike 50 miles there, then 6 miles in off the highway down a remote wooded trail, and then a mile hike in. And finally, magic. My happy place. The peace, serenity and solitude is the prize. Catching fish is just icing. Then after a few hours of my paradise, I drove 50 miles on my bike as the sun set in the review mirror behind me. Spectacular. I could not ask for a better day. And even if I struck it rich, got a movie deal for my books, I would be doing the same exact thing. Just more of it. Right now, I have to work my ass off and earn. But someday, hopefully soon, I won't have to worry about money. And on that day, you will see me doing a LOT of brook trout fishing. Why? It is my happy place. My passion. My obsession. My love. I just look forward to sharing it with more friends and loved ones. That is also my dreams. To have the funds to where money won't be a factor. Everything is on me. Those people know who they are. Genuine supporters. Everyone else, all I can do is hope to inspire you to live. To chase dreams, learn from failures. forget negative people, and never relent till they win. IN then meantime, life is out there to love! This day of fishing cost me $6 in gas and $6 in bait. But the memory was priceless. I will never forget this day. And my goal is to help you get to your happy place where you can experience days like this. But doing what YOU love. It is so easy to get sucked into drama and negativity on social media. What a waste of time and energy. I refuse to do it any longer. My time is too valuable. eople can think what they want of us. Matters none. Get outside and live, in the real world. I'm appreciative that you enjoy me, my stories and these adventures, but forget me. Just allow me to inspire you. You have your own passions and dreams and talents. Use them before it is too late. People die all then time. We are getting older by the day. Don't look back with regret and say, "Man, I wasted so much time on social media or wherever, and now I'm too old to go do all the things I always wanted to do." Be the guy who looks back and says, "Hell yeah. I lived!" You will have the memories as proof. They may not be chronicled in a YT video or in some fed file pf court document, LOL, but you will know what you did. And the people with you will know. In the end, that is all that matters. We don't live for other people. We live for us and our loved ones. So put the phone down, find your happy place and get there. LIVE! LOVE! ENJOY! Tick tock. No time to waste. I guess I have a more special appreciation for time. I lost 13 yers to a prison cell. I swore I would always live life to the fullest, as long as I could. And I am keeping my word. I hope this video brings you a little entertainment and joy, but more importantly, it inspires you to live! Go make memories. Love people. Forget negative people, haters and non factors. They will always be miserable people. Not many truly happy people. Be one of them. I feel like I have already won the greatest prize on earth--happiness and peace. Find yours. I will support you, whoever you are. God bess!

Part 3 - Anniversary Camping Trip - Someone FORGOT THE TENT POLES!
In this episode, I improvise tent poles, fish and reflect back on the first time I was there, over 6 years ago, when I had only been out of prison a few days. The place really has a magical feel to it. The silence and the beauty of the lake. Check it out.Try to imagine what it must have felt like for me to be there after 13 years in a cage. Suddenly, there I was, free, with my new wife, living my new life, a free man. The sense of peace and contentmept cannot be articulated. Even now, when I return there, the feeling comes right back, It was a special time and place, and thus, we like to return there every year to reflect on how far we have come, and remind ourselves what is most important--freedom, health, fun, experience, life, living. NOT social media. Not money fortune and fame. Not online popularity. No, the most important things can be found in this video. Those who get it, will. get it. Thise who don't, I feel sorry for. Gid bless them and you too. As long as we are alive our eyes can be opened at any moment.

Who I Am Today - Live On The Homestead With Maria
I wanted to share with new subscribers a little of my life today. There is a lot on the internet about me, some good, some bad, some outright lies and fabrications. So I wanted to make sure that new subscribers get a feel for who I really him. This video will give you an idea. I was once a very bad perspn, and I paid then price for it. Some people to this day cild grudges and obsess over me, witch saddens me. Move on. Get past it. I have. That is the reason for this video. Not to brag "Look at me,: but rather show you that people can change, evolve, and become better people. This is my sim-le but amazing life. And I wanted to share a little slice of it with you. I am a novelist, and that who I am to the core. But I am also a lover of the outdoor, peace and quiet, solitude and serenity. Spending 13 years in prison surrounded by sociopaths and animals gave me a special appreciating for this type of life style. The quiet, simple life. Maybe some of you can relate. Maybe not. But now you know who I am and what my day to day life is like. Not that exciting, and yet thrilling to me. I wouldn't trade it for a billion dollars, if that meant living in a city or being forced to be around crowds of people all day. Just give me my wife, cats, and chickens, and I'll be happy. Well, toss in a trout stream and I'm in heaven. LOL

6 Years Free, Married, and Baptized - Anniversary Camping Trip With Maria
This is Part 1 of a 5 part series of my fun anniversary trip with Maria, camping and exploring in Michigan's remote Upper Peninsula . We always have so much fun together. I know we are cheesy, but we hope to inspire you to get off social media dn get outside to enjoy the real world. Yes we see the irony of saying that on a published video. BUT, we hope that the message sinks in and that you say hey, if they can get out and have fun in nature, why can't I? We call can. It is ceap, affordable and easy. There is so much out there to see, do, and experience. This is just a little taste of what we like. I hope to see you out doing what you enjoy. Anything but stare at a screen all day.
Stay tuned for Part 2, when I realize we forgot the tent poles. But thankfully fir me, I know how to improvise. Sort of. LOL
