If a child hasn’t had to use something in their real life, then they don’t need to know it (yet). Tara Bushaw is a married mom of 8 from Minnesota who has been homeschooling for 8 years. Her family thrives on the flexibility that homeschooling provides and has allowed her to guide her kids through some non-typical situations. Something unique about her journey has been that they have incorporated real-life experiences and entrepreneurial skills in their homeschooling journey. Tara supported and encouraged her (at the time) 15-year-old son to buy a house next to hers, where he did the budgeting, bill-paying, remodeling, etc. He worked to pay for it in his own lawn-mowing business, and then worked side-by-side with the owner of a restaurant (during typical school hours) where he helped her prep, plan, cook, and bake for the restaurant and catering business. He then proceeded to buy his very own restaurant at the age of 18, a food truck, and a second location at the age of 19 and is pursuing his third location at the age of 20.
