Peaceful Worldschooling Podcast - Episode 14: Raising Entrepreneurs with Tara Bushaw

Tara Bushaw is a married mom of 8 from Minnesota who has been homeschooling for 8 years. Currently, she has five kids still at home, and they take a mixed approach to homeschooling with some guided curriculum mixed with unschooling. Her family thrives on the flexibility that homeschooling provides and has allowed her to guide her kids through some non-typical situations.

Something unique about her journey has been that they have incorporated real-life experiences and entrepreneurial skills in their homeschooling journey.

Tara supported and encouraged her (at the time) 15-year-old son to buy a house next to hers, where he did the budgeting, bill-paying, remodeling, etc. He worked to pay for it in his own lawn-mowing business, and then worked side-by-side with the owner of a restaurant (during typical school hours) where he helped her prep, plan, cook, and bake for the restaurant and catering business. He then proceeded to buy his very own restaurant at the age of 18, a food truck, and a second location at the age of 19 and is pursuing his third location at the age of 20.

In this episode, Tara and Angela also share some of the many concerns that they have about the toxic public school system, and how raising entrepreneurs is a way to flip the script and "get rid of the box."
