Sunday School; God's Creation Story
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.
Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light. God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
Then God said, 'let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.’ Notice that each day’s creation work by God is achieved by His Word.
God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so. God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
Then God said, 'Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear'; and it was so. God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.
Then God said, 'Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them”; and it was so. Notice, God created living things with the intention that they should reproduce (seeds).
The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning, a third day.
Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night, and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years' … God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also ... and God saw that it was good. There was evening and there was morning, a fourth day.
Then God said, 'Let the waters teem with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth in the open expanse of the heavens.' God created the great sea monsters and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarmed after their kind and every winged bird after its kind; and God saw that it was good. God blessed them, saying, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.' There was evening and there was morning, a fifth day.
Then God said, 'Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind’; and it was so. God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good.
Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.'
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'
Then God said, 'Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the surface of all the earth, and every tree which has fruit yielding seed; it shall be food for you; and to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the sky and to everything that moves on the earth which has life, I have given every green plant for food'; and it was so. God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. And there was evening and there was morning, the sixth day.
By the seventh day God completed His work and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

In the beginning Genesis 1
In the beginning Genesis 1
When the whole world began God had a plan to create the heavens and the earth and make a home for man. So God began to speak, ‘Let there be light!’ Darkness disappeared and all became bright. When everything separated as it should, God smiled and said, ‘It is good!’
God saw water everywhere. He told the water where it needed to be. He sent some to the sky to become clouds, and He kept some on the earth to become the sea. When the water separated as it should, God smiled and said, ‘It is good!
Now the whole earth was covered with water. God told the water to move back. The land appeared with trees and plants of many colors, with vegetables, fruits, and nuts to crack. When everything separated as it should, God smiled and said, ‘It is good!’
God made lights to rule the sky. During the day the sun would shine bright. At night the stars would sprinkle the sky, and the moon would rule the darkness and give the land light. When everything shone where it should, God smiled and said, ‘It is good!’
The seas were empty and needed life. So God made fish to swim in the water everywhere. The skies were empty and needed life. So God made the birds to swoop and fly throughout the air. When everything lived where it should, God smiled and said, ‘It is good!’
Then God filled the land with all kinds of animals. They were all different sizes and shapes and definitions. Then God created the most important thing of all, God made man and woman and gave them dominion. When everyone lived where they should, God smiled and said, ‘It is good!’
Then God looked over all His creation. He admired the heavens, the land, and the sea. He rested because everything was as it should be. God smiled and said, ‘It is good!.

God's Creation
God’s Creation
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was shapeless and empty and the Spirit of God hovered over the waters. God said, ‘Let there be light.’ God called the light day and the darkness was called night. All this happened on the first day of creation.
On the second day of creation God created the sky and the clouds that were separated from the water underneath. God saw that His work was good.
On the third day, God ordered dry land to appear and the waters were gathered into seas.
Then God said, ‘Let the earth burst out with every sort of grass and seed-bearing plant and fruit trees with seeds inside the fruit.’
Everything God said took place. All kinds of grass, plants, and trees grew with their own seeds to grow more.
God saw all the plants growing and declared it was good.
On the fourth day of creation, God set the sun, moon, and stars in place. Day and night and seasons and years came into being. God was pleased and saw that it was good.
On the fifth day of creation, God said, ‘Let the sea be full of fish and let birds fly in the sky.’ God blessed them and told them to give birth to their young and increase in numbers. Once again God saw that what He had created was good.
On the sixth day of creation, God said, ‘Let the land have many species of living creatures.’
God created cattle and reptiles and wildlife of every kind.
God created all kinds of species of wild animals and cattle and reptiles. He was pleased with His creation.
Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image to be the master of all life upon the earth, skies, and the seas.’ God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed life into his nostrils. The man became a living being.
God named him Adam and put him in a garden he had planted in Eden. Adam worked and looked after the garden.
Adam could eat any of the fruit growing in the garden.
However, in the middle of the garden were two special trees. One was called the Tree of Life, the other was the tree giving knowledge of good and evil. God told Adam ‘You can eat the fruit of any tree except the tree giving knowledge of good and evil. To disobey and eat this fruit will result in death.’
God brought the animals to Adam so he could name them.
Adam gave names to all the animals.
Then the Lord said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper for him.’
God caused Adam to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, He took one of the man’s ribs from it and made a woman.
God brought the woman to Adam. Adam said, ‘She is part of my own bone and flesh! Her name is ‘woman’ because she was taken out of a man.’ This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife in such a way that the two become one.
Now although the man and his wife were both naked, neither of them was embarrassed or ashamed.
God looked over all that He had made, and it was excellent in every way. This ended the sixth day. On the seventh day, God rested. God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy because it was when He ceased His work of creation.

Genesis overview - Part 1 - Adam to Noah Genesis 1-9
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in it. From darkness comes light and life.
God creates the first man and woman.
Adam and Eve are deceived by the serpent and disobey God. They face the consequences of their actions and are banished. They are prevented from getting to the Tree of Life.
Cain and Abel make offerings and God accepts Abel’s offering of a slain sheep. Cain is jealous and kills Abel. Adam and Eve have a son named Seth.
This chapter gives a list of the generations between Adam and Noah. This includes Methuselah who lived 782 years.
People become so evil God wants to destroy them but Noah and his family obey God. God gives Noah instructions to build a huge boat, an Ark, and he obeys.
God sends a great flood and only those on board the Ark survive.
The flood waters go down and those aboard the Ark get out onto dry land. Noah offers a sacrifice to God.
God blesses Noah and his sons. God promises never to flood the whole earth again.

Jesus Ascend to Heaven
After rising from the dead, Jesus met with his disciples and followers, giving convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the Kingdom of God.
Once, while eating with them, Jesus commanded, ‘Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which I have spoken about. John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’
One day when Jesus was with them on the Mount of Olives he told them, ‘You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to rest of the world.’
After Jesus said this, He was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.
As the disciples gazed upwards, suddenly, two men dressed in white stood beside them. ‘Men of Galilee, why do you stand here looking into the sky?’ they asked. ‘This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.’
Jesus’ followers returned to Jerusalem and met regularly for prayer.
Peter stood up in the group of around 120 believers, to talk about a replacement for Judas who had betrayed Jesus. The prophecies about this incident in Psalm 69:25 and Psalm 109:8 stated ‘May another take his place of leadership.’
Judas had used the 30 pieces of silver he had been given to buy a field. He had fallen in this field and died. (Matthew’s gospel says he hung himself). The field was now known as the ‘Field of Blood.’
Peter said the replacement must be chosen from those who had been with Jesus from the time He was baptised by John to His resurrection. The new apostle would be a witness to the fact Jesus was alive. Two men Joseph, called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias were nominated
They prayed, ‘Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over from Judas.’ Then they cast lots.
The lot singled out Matthias. He joined the 11 apostles, making a total of 12.
