Just a show of maybe 1/5th of our amaranth harvest for the year

Sort of a demonstration of how I turn normal tickling and roughhousing into a teachable event. I present tickle-jitsu, my very basic premise for how to train very young children in defensive jiujitsu. Both of my kids have been train in this manner since about 2 years of age. As such, they know how to pull guard, escape guard, escape side control, escape mount, and how to escape various different submissions. And this is all done by strategically placed tickles without the risks of actually applying real submissions.

It’s been a while since I’ve been able to post. But I’m back. And the garden has been THRIVING… at least one of them is.

I just talk a bit about my plans to amend the soil and give the land a rest after my upcoming late-fall harvest.

This is me making a biltong recipe for myself. This is a personal recipe and not something I researched online (although I wouldn't be surprised if this recipe had been done before). This video is intended as inspiration for others who may want to get into preserving meat and other foods. Economic hard times are currently on their way. The more food you can save by knowing how to preserve it, the better off you and your family are.

Just a reminder that animal husbandry, while incredibly rewarding, does come with some serious responsibility and some tough choices. Rest In Peace Ghost

I wanted to share with you guys the fruits (or, in this case, the tubers) of my labor. This just goes to show how much you can produce at home, even with a fairly small plot of land, to help feed yourself and your family in the event of an emergency. I hope you all enjoy.

This is just a look at crop rotation as a genetic overview for those who may not be aware of the term or concept. I include, for reference, how I conduct crop rotation at my own home. Please be aware that the optimal technique for doing this depends on your soil, resources, climate, and what you are growing. Please do some research for what techniques are best for you and be aware that some trial and error might be included.

I end up making flour, and then bread and granola, from some random starchy vegetables and seeds we had around the house... mostly just to prove that I can (my wife ended up stepping in and helping me at the end). Luca was a fan, but sadly Clara wouldn't even give them a chance. I apologize that you guys didn't get to see me try the granola log that we showed at the end. But it was SOOO good. Neither of the kids would try it though so... I guess that part was all for me.

I like the tang, but many don’t. If you are one of the latter group, don’t soak your biltong in the vinegar for as long as I did (I soaked it for 24 hours).
