VIDEO DESCRIPTION
Antebellum South grew rapidly in the mid-1800s. While the North was more industrial and much of national exports left from cities like New York, Boston, and Philadelphia in the early 1800s, it would be the South that would pass the North in exports with cotton. Tobacco was the number one commodity in the southern states, but with the increase in demand for cotton from the New England area and Europe, the Cotton Revolution began. This increase in demand would also increase the demand for slavery. It would take a Civil War to finally end the institution of slavery.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION
During the Market Revolution, the United States started to develop rapidly and industry grew. Roads, railroads, and canals made it easier to move from state to state and to the western territories. As more people settled in the west, they started creating states. However, this brought controversy. Should the new states be free states or slave states? This brought about the Missouri Crisis which divided the country between the North and the South. Shortly after the Missouri Crisis, a presidential election shook the nation. John Quincy Adams versus Andrew Jackson brought about what became to be known as the "Corrupt Bargain." John Quincy Adams would become the president but not for long. Andrew Jackson spent four years preparing to oust him, and oust him he would do. This would bring the beginning of the Era of Jackson.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION
In the early 1800s in the United States, increasedindustrialization was a major portion of the Market Revolution as a result of theIndustrial Revolution that had started in Britain. The Market Revolution would turn the United States into a capitalist society and gave many people more opportunities. Roads, canals, and bridges were built throughout the country. Journeys that used to take weeks were shortened to days. The west was open for exploration. Unfortunately, during this time period, the north and south would become more divided. More and more northern states gradually abolished the institution of slavery while the south became more dependent on it. Immigration would also greatly increase, and Irish, Germans, and Jews were not always welcomed. And, the gap between the rich and poor would continue to widen.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION
The War of 1812 changed the United States of America. The first few decades as a new country were difficult. The Americans had internal conflict and problems with foreign powers like Britain, France, Spain, and the Barbary States (North Africa). In the early 1800s, the Americans were continually harassed by the British Navy. British soldiers were boarding American merchant ships and impressing American sailors into the British Navy. The British were also arming the Native Americans in the U.S. who were attacking American settlers. These acts would lead up to the War of 1812, also known as the Second War of Independence. At the country would be introduced to Andrew Jackson.

Video clip on the Louisiana Purchase is from TED-Ed:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMh8RCqJf9U
VIDEO DESCRIPTION
The Revolution of 1800 brought change to the early republic. The United States was not certain a peaceful transition of power was possible. During the Election of 1800, power shifted from the John Adams, a Federalist, to Thomas Jefferson, a Democratic-Republican. When the results came out, John Adams peacefully acknowledged his defeat, and the transfer of power was accomplished without violence. This would bring in a new era under the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, the writer of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson, a "small" government advocate would do some of the the biggest "big" government moves in American history (e.g. the Louisiana Purchase). Thomas Jefferson would have a great influence on the trajectory of the early republic, the United States of America.
This video will cover the presidency of Thomas Jefferson.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION
After the failures in the United States under the Articles of Confederation and the months of debate over the creation of the new Constitution, it was unclear if the new nation would even survive. In other words, the new Constitution was tested. The 1790s under George Washington and John Adams would be divisive. Two political parties would be formed -- the Federalists and Democratic-Republicans -- and they would disagree about the size of the Federal Government, whether to have a National Bank, whether to support Britain or France, and more. All while this is happening, the French Revolution was devastating France. By the end of the century, it was feared the transfer of power from John Adams and Thomas Jefferson would end in war, but it didn't. The young nation would survive.
This video will go over the difficulties the United States would have during the 1790s.

After the victory in the American Revolution, the Founding Fathers needed to create a new government. They were worried about creating a tyrannical government like the one under the authoritarian king, King George III. They started with the Articles of Confederation which was actually created before the war was over. It purposely created a weak central government with no president, just a congress. It quickly became clear that a new constitution needed to be created for the struggling country.

VIDEO DESCRIPTION
Between 1607 and 1754, British America grew from a starving colony to a nation on the brink of war. It would take over a hundred years for 13 colonies to be settled. As more and more Europeans flooded into British America, new ideas emerged. The Enlightenment challenged ideas and systems that had existed for centuries. People started to question the validity of religion. Ideas on how to organize society spread throughout Europe and British America. The Enlightenment would be countered by The Great Awakening, an attempt to revive religion in the colonies. Then a world war, the Seven Years War, would not only massively enlarge the British Empire but become the impetus to start the American Revolution and the creation of the United States.
This is a typical high school American History lesson which can help high school students who need a little extra help in class. It can also give teachers ideas for their lessons.
