Nature can be brutal 😳🦈 A massive barracuda attacks a small shark in the shallows.

Meeting these gentle giants is one of the most incredible experiences one can have. The whales actively seek out human company and enjoy the interactions. Encounters take place in the lagoons of Baja California, Mexico, a UNESCO World Heritage Site protected by law. The whales approach boats and the motors are turned off, leaving it entirely up to them whether they want to approach and engage with humans.

“This green turtle hatchling has a long way to go before reaching its mature stage like the green turtle in front. It must survive the shallow waters of the reef avoiding reef sharks and other predators. It has to enter the East Australia Current where it will travel across the Pacific Ocean visiting different countries over a 30-40 year period before returning to the island it once hatched from to lay her own eggs. I think the circle of life of turtles is such a beautiful story and one I am so happy to have witnessed. It really puts the journey into perspective when you see this hatchling’s first footsteps against the tracks of what she will hopefully become.”

Truth is, I was more so playing with the old gal who I’ve known for a decade. Snooty took an obvious interest in my camera dome, which I do try to protect. When redirecting a shark, you push them down and away, and generally they’ll “just keep swimming!” Snooty felt she could control the situation so as I realized the game she was about to play, I started talking to her having fun with the situation. ** When Shark diving you never back down / swim away from the shark. Hold your ground and firmly re-direct **

Season is over in just a few weeks, and I’m looking back feeling grateful for my 10th season of swimming with Lemon Sharks here at home 🤯 I’m always ready for pelagic sharks by now, but come August we will be anticipating the lemon sharks return! #sharklife
