Anthracnose & Onion yellow dwarf virus
I saw the disease last year but didn't know any better and ignored it. This year will mean a set-back; measures will be implemented to make sure this is the last major loss.

Finally got a GreenStalk
I'm so excited to grow in the vertical GreenStalk tower mainly because of the pest pressure I experience. And as long as I stay on the watering, I should be successful.

Shady Brook Farm, PA
This 4th of July weekend was full of friends fun and foliage 😁. Snagged 20% family discount + who knew shopping with kids means more plants.
Now to keep them alive through the drought.

Fall gardening and succession sowing
It's been so hot, but I keep pressing on. A lot of vegetables not on my list can still be sowed for summer and fall gardening.

July 2022: Garden Tour
It has been a very dry month and some plants are fairing better than others.
This is also the time to start sowing for the fall garden. We're halfway through but just getting started...

Chicken Coop... midway through
The end is near but I don't think we'll make the month-end deadline.
The coop has gone through many design changes since the first drawing was made. And I don't think we're done just yet...

Mini Butterball Harvest
First potatoes planted in April are ready. Butterball either yielded 2 large or 3 smaller spuds. The fries were tasty but I believe would have been better had the potatoes cured. We'll see how the rest taste in a few weeks...

Musings and Chores at the end of July
Every so often, a wander in the garden brings wisdom that I seldom put to paper, so I forget for next season. Like, 'stop planting certain vegetables all at once, succession sow!
Despite the drought of 2022, fruits are coming in and vegetables are waiting for the relief I so wish will come soon...

And then there were 6...chicks
The chicks were born and the summer heatwave ended this week. Between rescuing one and watching another hatch out, it was quite the day. Now 4 days later, chicks are thriving, but the chicken coop is still many days from completion...

Special delivery, Mid summer harvest and clean-up, Chicks update
August has not panned out as planned. Continued heat and drought has finally taken its toll and I'm too tired to fight the good fight. So it's one day, one thing at a time. A few harvests, a little cleaning, no planting. I know September will bring renewed energy and I can't wait...

August 2022: Garden Tour
August is half abundance, half clean-up. The heat and drought has really taken its toll but the recent cool down means fall transition.

My Garlic Harvest 2022
Pretty good harvest this year. Time will tell how the anthracnose virus affected the cloves. And it'll be interesting to see how the weather this year will be compared to last. I planted at least 2 weeks later and harvested over a week earlier.

Harvesting Overripe Produce
In order to save seeds, I've allowed the cucumber and tomato to be overripe, to ensure mature seeds. I will then ferment the seeds in water for a few days, then dry and store in a cool dry space.

Ginger Harvest
Probably could have given the ginger until a frost but I'm very satisfied with the harvest. This young ginger is very potent. The older ginger were the parents and in a more temperate climate might regrow new plants.
Here's the video link when the ginger was first planted, https://youtu.be/gJn2R0qmYrI
