What a great road trip today! Since it is late, but we got so much cool video today I thought I'd give you a little pick me up for a mid week adventure. And we really gave my new Polaris Ranger Nothstar Ultimate a nice workout while assessing a property for land management updates. Overgrown pond dams look out!!! A quick update on some of the recent chess moves that we've made with regards to our equipment, more particularly my bobcat e42 r2 series mini excavator. And then the storm hit.. With all of the rain we've been getting lately our 2 ponds that are interconnected have maintained an usually high level as the pond spillway takes longer now that it drains both ponds now with a higher water volume. And the last time we had heavy rains like this the pond actually crossed over the dam in one low spot. So in today's kapper farm vlog I'll break out the bobcat e42 R2 series mini excavator with the Godzilla 36" bucket and the bobcat T650 CTL skid steer to bring in some more 3 inch stone in the spillway that is currently flowing with water, and I'll build up the low spot in the pond dam with dirt. And then the storm hit, so we'll get a look at the gulley washer heavy rain event and we'll take an after look at some of the water erosion damage that I cause on our Southern Illinois farm. And of course we'll take a look at the pond dam repair and spillway stone to see if it survived the storm! We'll put it to the test of cutting some green hardwoods, of varying kinds, and varying sizes, as well as a historical look back on real life and real world land investing applications that I have used the Milwaukee M18 fuel chainsaw in. Today I will tackle a large pile of hardwood trees and cut them into firewood size logs with the M18 fuel chainsaw. I carry this battery chainsaw at all times in my truck with 2 fully charged batteries, because in the land management business we are always running in to times that we need a chainsaw immediately, and it is very nice to have a much lighter saw, without having to carry fuel mix and oil all the time. You might be surprised on this one! Recently I bought a 2022 Polaris Ranger XP 1000 Northstar Ultimate machine. And after reading some Polaris Ranger forums I discovered that there are 2 different shock mounting brackets that the shocks and springs can be mounted on. The information was that if mounted on the 'inside' position you'd get a softer ride, but lower ground clearance. And conversely, if the shocks were mounted on the 'outside' position you could increase your ground clearance up to nearly an inch, but have a stiffer ride. Sharon here and join me for this quick fun project using cheap cedar dog eared fence boards, my Hercules miter saw, dewalt planer, dewalt drill and screwdriver with 1 1/2 inch wood screws, 36 inch compass stencil, painters tape, chalk paint and roller, flat white paint and spray lacquer. Join me today for a very cool land management strategy video and some real life evidence, intel, big bucks and more. In today's episode, which is leading off our newest food plot and deer management line for the 2022 deer season, we'll take a look at the complete picture of a late season deer strategy move that I did here on our Southern Illinois farm, which consisted of A) Gathering big buck intel on our farm, B) After assessing the food plot intel, moving a deer tower to a new location mid season (Dec 08, 2021), and then C) the follow up evidence AFTER the deer tower move to see how things worked out! This particular food plot and deer scrape is located in the very center of our Southern Illinois hunting land. This fall food plot for deer was planted VERY late in the season because the first time I planted it, we had a drought that basically suffocated it. So, I decided to re plant it late in the fall with a 4 grain cereal grain mix as well as a brassica mix. While the brassica's did not do very well, the 4 grain fall cereal mix did well and continued to grow throughout the season and into the new year. Are you sick of winter weather right now!? Me too!! So, let's get some fresh air, and get out of the house for a little while as I complete another land clearing project on my buddy's Southern Illinois farm. Today will be the completion of a new land clearing project that will expand a current Micro food plot in the woods, with another existing 'big field' food plot to create a really nice 'bump out' food plot that will be enclosed on 3 sides by timber and cover. Today I'll be using my Bobcat e42 R-2 series Mini excavator at my friend Phil's Illinois homestead farm, (which is not far from the Kentucky border) to help him by expanding this food plot and continuing to improve his property to help him live the dream, one acre at a time even more so now! This will be the completion of this particular land clearing project and we'll start with a Before look, then some during clips, then the completion of clearing the last few big tree with my bobcat mini excavator and then an after look to see how it turned out. Feb 2022; Southern Illinois. Join us for a short kapper vlog today as we join a couple of my buddies on one of their Southern Illinois farms as they are doing some stump and tree root clearing to create a new gravel pad. Today they are using my friend Aric's Jansen MB 300 backhoe, aka, Jansen mb-300 mini excavator, among other names. They are working on a new gravel pad expansion on his Southern Illinois farm. Let's see how the Jansen MB-300 does with pulling hardwood roots. Also, let's improvise a little since the mini excavator has enough hydraulic power to continually life the base of the unit, let's try to bring in a tractor loader for the assist! Improvising seemed to work and keep the base of the unit much more stable with the weight of the 45 hp compact tractor added for assistance! We'll also do a quick walk around of this unit and share a few thoughts about it. I am definitely going to stop down at Aric's farm and try this thing out if I get the chance! Feb 18, 2022 from our Southern Illinois half frozen farm ponds. There are 2 small flocks of Canada geese doing some kind of competitive goose calls and body language displays that are really neat to watch!
