AllTooHuman - Original music release - FIBRILLATION
This is our first release of new original material in a decade. Its never too late to write and record your own music! This was a collaborative effort between the three of us, recorded at the "home" studio in Rockport, Texas. There are no triggers or samples used on the drum tracks. This was recorded in Logic, then edited, mixed and mastered here, as well. We always welcome feedback on the production, and hope you enjoy the song!

Recreating highly recognizable drum sounds. FREEWILL Rush Drum Cover
DON'T FORGET this video is also posted on the new All Too Human channel: alltoohumantheband! Future releases will go there.

Here it is, the promised cover of Free Will, using the Moises App to recreate Neil Peart's drum tracks. I actually put in a few (very few) of my own fills. Tell me if you notice where they are and what I'm doing ; )
Please feel free to comment on the tone and if you think I nailed the sound Neil originally had. It took some tuning and mixing, but I did not have to add alot of plug-ins. Just really hard hitting, a bit of Eq and compression and a stock transient designer in logic to get a little extra attack. All in all, that attack comes from hitting as hard as Neil did, not the plug in.
I recorded the audio track into a Focusrite OctoPre, then Logic, and mixed and mastered it myself. That is, I used the bass, guitar and vocal stems that comes with the Moises modified song and then added my 8 tracks of drums. Though I normally use a t least one room mic, I did not use a room mic on this recording since Neil had a very focused and tight sound anyway with very little reverb. Since I have only 8 inputs, I did the unthinkable and used only 8 mics. Yes, that means I actually mic'ed two toms with one mic! (the horror). With fewer tracks I get less phase cancellation but the compromise is just a little less control of individual tom volumes, which can be achieved post-recording with clip gain in the editor window.
Please also feel free to comment on the mix. It was easy considering I had Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson as the backing track!
* For those of you that have asked, I use Zildjian primarily, but have that awesome 18" Sabian crash ride which I bought at the Drum Shop in Houston, TX. I also have some Wuhans (of course).
My favorite heads for this all-fiberglass kit are the Remo Pinstripes on batters with clear ambassador reso head, and usually PS3 on snare batter or CS coated.

YYZ Drum cover re creating recognizable drum recordings A Tribute to Neil Peart, by Chris Lucci
YYZ drum cover played by Chris Lucci, using the Moises.ai app.
#yyz #Rush #madewithmoises #drumcover #neilpeart #geddylee #alexlifeson
This is a tribute to Neil Peart. I made every effort to play the song note for note, exactly as he did, except for the third measure of the solo section. I added the bass drum 32nd note triplets I had heard him play in concert a few times...because its cool and the listener could then tell it was my recording. I also made every effort to tune the kit to sound like the original, as best I could, and then to mix and master it to the very best quality I could achieve. The Moises app is amazing. I believe it helps the artist whose music is covered because you will first have to purchase the song (on ITunes for example) in order to place it into the app for processing. That way the original recording artist shares some of the benefits of people using their music to make Moises covers.

World's most accurate Rush Drum Cover Recreating iconic drum sounds Subdivisions, by Chris Lucci
Another in the series of Neil Peart tribute covers. This track was also made with the Moises.ai app, removing the original drum track and then replacing with Chris's which was recorded in the room you see. He is again trying to nail Neil's original part as closely as possible, beat for beat. This is not an easy song to duplicate! We can humbly say, after listening to many, many of YouTube's other Subdivisions covers, that his most precisely nails the beats, the timing, the tone of the drums and the nuances that made Neil what he was.
Chris: "Neil Peart was the most important of my influences, when I was a beginner drummer. Though I have my own style now, I tried to emulate my favorite rush songs and his tracks to this degree because of the tremendous respect I had for his hard work, precision and creativity. To get this song right, you can't just memorize the notes. Neil had an incredible sense of making fills sound urgent and intense without losing the groove. His fills, hi-hat work and cross-over technique have to be practiced in terms of the accents, grace notes and dynamics other than just playing the notes. That is what makes the sound he created. My hat is off to Neil, these are some of the best fills he ever wrote. The upbeat china ride pattern at the end is especially cool."
Neil's sound changed a little bit from the days of Permanent Waves and then Moving pictures. we think he went for a little more open / less dampened sound on Signals. You will notice some difference between this track and the YYZ sound we got on the first in the series of Rush drum covers, and once again with room treatment, miking technique, mixing, and mastering, we think Chris absolutely nailed Neil's original tone here.
Cheers
Mixing: Chris Lucci
Backing tracks: Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson, via Moises app
Video editing: Clint Wilson.
For those of you that have asked: the super-cool looking absorber/diffusers in corners are GIK Alpha series 5.625" deep panels. Remainder on the walls are three GIK 244 broadband panels and four GIK 2" panels stacked on top of each other, with 2" air gap between panels and ceiling built into a frame.
Recording setup is using Pearl, custom fiberglass kit, Remo Pinstripes on toms and coated CS batter on snare. Focusrite Scarlet OctoPre, running into Logic Pro, latest edition.
