Digital Combat Simulator (DCS): F-14A - Flatspin recoverable?
Hello folks.
Long time no see.
Is a flatspin in a F-14A recoverable?
Technically yes.
A few factors that will help you get back on track (or back to the boat) are important though:
Ideally, a load of dual Sparrows or Phoenixes will be still in the forward mounts (those just below the cockpit), this causes the center of gravity to be slightly tilted forward and allows for an easier and much quicker exit of a flat spin situation.
Also, as soon as you enter a flatspin (at altitude) and realize there is a compressor stall imminent, cut the throttle to the engines to minimize compressor damage.
As long as one engine is running on idle, you will still retain hydraulic power, which is crucial.
If you are flying clean, try creating as much drag as possible and try to lean into the oscilliations with the elevator (which has some authority, but not much). Many "flat" spins are not entirely flat. Use this to your advantage.
In case you still have your external fuel tanks, choose the right moment during the oscilliations and after you deployed all the possible drag you can before dropping them.
Dropping them will cause a momentary shift in the center of gravity of the plane and might help you induce a nose down attitude or at least an angle of attack where your control surfaces have some authority.
My starting altitude is unknown, I calculated due to falling rate and end altitude that the spin occurred at around 24000ft, a drop of 6000ft and then recovered at 18000ft.
The air density increasing meant that the control surfaces and drag had a bigger impact and this also helped recovering the plane.
In the initial spin, I lost my port engine but, after throttling down the starboard engine to idle, it didn't get any damage and I retained 1 engine through the fall, thus not losing the hydraulics needed for a sucessfull recovery.
I also tried wiggling and increasing drag on both wings with the spoilerons and flaps. Once a roll was possible, I rolled into the spin.
During the "flat" part of the spin the rudders will be partially or entirely obscured by the plane frame, don't waste time (or hydraulic fluid, if you are damaged) in trying to use them until you have a nose down attitude.
There are sure other ways to recover the aircraft for sure, but this is not a tutorial, just an example.
Regarding the music, I chose the beautiful rendition of Il Silenzio by the young Melissa Venema.
I chose this song because while it sounds like something is definite, there is some hope towards the end.
I could have made some overlays and stopped the video at crucial moments to explain things but that is what the replay button is for, that way you get to watch in 4k with minimal distractions.
Please enjoy.
Kind regards,
~ Bogey

DCS: F-5E - Attempted Carrier Landing with horrible visibility
I like challenges. I think I overdid this one xD
This wasn't the first attempt, but it was the first time I actually found the carrier in the fog.
Actual landing attempt at 1:28 if you want to skip the mood shots.
Enjoy!

Don't take it seriously ^^
What happens when you land in Hamburg, let a drunken, but skilled passenger into the cockpit and he closes the door behind himself?
He flies to Dusseldorf and lands like this ;-)
Enjoy!
Disclaimer: No passengers were harmed while making this video.
ps: Yes, I know, I am not flying exactly as per operating manual, I hope the guys of Leonardo can forgive me someday ^^.

DCS: F-5E vs MiG-21 with Shinden for the Lulz
As I mentioned before, here is a video with Shinden
(It's a short clip, just a glance of many nice fights with him and others)
Sadly, Shinden flamed out and I had only one engine running (due to low fuel), so we decided to RTB.
I still hope you enjoy the maneuvering ;).
I was so mad when my stream disconnected.
Shadowplay hasn't worked right since the last update (I might have to uninstall it completely for a clean install) but somehow, I managed to recover this.

ps: Sorry for my glitchy TrackIR!
DCS: Always choose luck over skill
First and foremost, yes, I had to record like 3 separate instances to recreate what actually occurred, so excuse the inconsistencies (recorded tracks work sometimes, but they are wrong more often than not).
The "luck over skill" part begins around 2:16. I didn't even deploy countermeasures, I just evaded at the right moment.
At the beginning, I didn't even know there was an F-14 behind me. But I had a bad feeling. A feeling that turned out right.
I had to make a pass and check if it was a friendly, as there were other Iranian F-14s deployed nearby. I didn't have time to check IFF, so a pass was the most sensible option.
Haven't flown in ...forever, so I took a ....Ace Combat loadout, to familiarize myself with the cockpit. But to be fair, it was me and just another F-14 against a horde, so I guess it is somewhat fair.
I hope you enjoy!

Flying in IL-2 with the GEIER Squadron (Vulture) for the first time.
Sadly, I wasn't recording when we downed the fighters.
During 2020 and part of 2021 I was working overtime and I haven't flown in a long, long time. I even managed to drop bombs with the fuse off and forgot I had my guns zeroed at 520m instead of my usual 380-420m.
Overall, I brought the machine back a few times and had a few laughs with the mates. What's not to like?
Enjoy!
Yes, I know it's haphazardly edited but this ought to be a 30 second video which then took all of my Saturday for some reason. I didn't want to stay up until sunday ;)
~Bogey
Edit: I added subtitles in german and english for the first 40 seconds. The rest is too quiet to translate, for a big part of it. Please tell me if this is something you'd like to see more often. Thanks!

Microsoft Flight Simulator: Frozen Blades (Music Video featuring PMDG 's DC-6)
Hello fellas!
I am here waiting for some 707, old 732, 727 and not really a fan of the overuse of glass displays, at least not in simulators.... and then PMDG surprised me when they released the Douglas DC-6 for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS, released in 2020).
I thought to myself "Tight spot this month... it's either this or the Mil Mi-24 Hind for DCS".
As I still had no 3rd party plane in MSFS, I decided to get it and boy, for a few weeks, it was the only plane I flew.
These are some of the travels I took.
This video features USA, Iceland and I think Norway and Canada but I am not so sure about those last two.
More information on the Plane DLC and the music at the bottom of the description.
Because it will be asked = What is the purpose of this video?
Do you like aircraft? Yes.
Do you like flight sims? Yes.
Do you like the DC-6 and Microsoft Flight Simulator? Yes.
Then why are you asking? Sit back, relax, enjoy!
I wish I had better input device or more freedom in the use of the cameras. I hope the replay functionality will be available at some point in MSFS so I can actually record the way I would.
I am still not quite happy with the clip, but I can't keep pushing it off.
Enjoy!

ps: If you came here because of the Gust Lock video, I'm glad you stayed here ;)
I wanted to release something special after that video received more than 1700 views (and counting)

War Thunder: Operation No.6
Hi folks, I am back after my abscence of ... a lot of time.
Let's see if can produce ....qwaliteeh videos like this more often ;)
That being said, here is a small compilation of kills and funny moments I had in War Thunder with friends in the last few weeks.
Enjoy!

Ah, finally. It is here. And not without a few issues.
But when it works, it works beautifully.
Microsoft Flight Simulator (no, "2020" is not in the title), a labor of love and sweat by the team in Asobo studios.
I wanted to show pictures, videos, adventures for so long, but we weren't allowed.
But enough talking. Sit back, relax. Enjoy.
See you around!

Technical Specs:
MEDIUM preset settings (only custom setting: Vsync off)
CPU: i7 930 (@2.8GHz; Not overclocked. CPU is from 2010 Q1!)
GPU: GTX 960 OC 4GB
RAM: 16GB DDR3-1600
Internet: Connection above minimum but still a little slow. (5-12Mbit/s for reference)
A few programs in the background running, Chrome with at least 20 tabs open, Discord, Recording software. All of this affects performance, obviously.
When my CPU and GPU are maxing out and cannot take the load, I get between 10-25fps inside the cockpit of the A320 full of displays.
At the same time, external views give me at the very least 30fps. A update coming on the 27th of August is expected to improve performance.
For reference: 15fps are more than enough to fly the plane and enjoy.
Regularly, unless in the depicted extreme cases (without precached scenario, btw), I get 30 to 40fps with my setup.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Disclaimers:
Framerate:
If you see any stutter or weird frames, it's because I stretched and trimmed the original clips for convenience. I will upload a hidden comparison video later on, if someone really needs to know.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is just a test, more than anything. I hope you'll enjoy it. The long shots are a tribute to old Airline adverts.

Information regarding livery:
No, I don't work for Delta Airlines. It was just the livery I was using when I started recording.

Just a reminder for those of us who have a rig that wasn't built in this decade (or close to it):
DCS is still playable and wondrous to look at. You don't need an i9 to play it. [Click "Show More" for Specs]
VR, 4k, Maxed our graphics might be different, but for full HD, even a 2013's medium setup should suffice, ESPECIALLY if you don't ground pound a lot...
A few specs and details and a short clip to demonstrate the graphic level achievable (showing the plane, I might later do something more extensive).

Beware: Even recording in high quality with Shadowplay, smoothness, color depth and some quality gets lost, it really looks better than this..
