New Zealand Government Protest in Wellington - 23rd August 2022 | The Freedom & Rights Coalition
On Tuesday the 23rd of August 2022, thousands of kiwis from all over New Zealand gathered together in Wellington to protest against the NZ government and parties in opposition.
Convoys of protestors departed from opposite ends of the country meeting in the middle at the capital city Wellington. Unlike the parliament protest that took place in February and March, this one was a one-day event and not an occupation.
The protest began in Civic Square with speeches by Hannah Tamaki and Dr Matt Sheldon. Music was performed by several kiwi musicians followed by a March down Willis Street and Lambton Quay.
When the march reached the Cenotaph in front of Parliament steps, a mob of 100 - 200 counter-protestors were waiting. Most of them were masked up unlike the freedom protestors that were all unmasked. The counter-protestors had signs marked with rainbow coloured lettering. Some of the messaging had statements about anti-hate, anti-racism and anti-facism. None of which made much sense in relation to the freedom protestors, whom are also against those things.
The march had to take a slight detour around the counter-protestors to get onto parliament grounds. When they arrived, Brian Tamaki, founder of The Freedom and Rights Coalition, addressed the government and the protestors.
A lengthy speech ensued, covering Tamaki’s jail experience, protest background, the callousness of the Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, and the incompetence of both the government and the opposition parties.
Because all of the parties in government, including Labour, Greens, Māori Party, National and Act, colluded together with an agreement to not meet with the protestors in February/March. Tamaki declared all of the parties as not representing the people and unfit for government.
Tamaki also announced an umbrella coalition party for joining the forces of the minor parties. Initially consisting of Vision NZ party and New Nation Party (NNP). Tamaki also mentioned that the Outdoors and Freedom Party was a likely third coalition partner.
Shortly after, the government was put on trial in a “People’s Court” for crimes against humanity, with regards to its current policies and poor handling of the COVID-19 pandemic response.
After the prosecutor called up four witnesses before a judge, the jury unanimously voted a guilty verdict for the New Zealand Labour-led Government.
The 120 members of parliament were invited to meet and address the protestors, but not one of them came down to meet with them.
The Freedom and Rights Coalition goes by the acronym TFRC and sometimes by the more derogatory acronym FARC, which you can imagine was well used by the counter-protestors messaging.

Rocket Penguin Playing in Wellington’s Waterfront
A penguin playfully zooms around at high speed near the boatsheds at Clyde Quay, Oriental Bay, Wellington, New Zealand.
I was taking a walk during my lunch break, heading towards Oriental Bay. When I noticed this cute little penguin zooming around, swimming and popping his little head up out of the water. It’s not something you normally see in Wellington. He brightened my day 😃

A Message to Jacinda Ardern From the People | New Zealand Anti-mandate Protest
Jacinda Ardern, Prime Minister of New Zealand, the people are speaking to you.
During the Anti-mandate Protest and occupation which lasted 23 days, I met several people. Some of whom I put on the spot and asked this question on camera - if Jacinda Ardern were right here, right now. What would you say to her?
There were some common themes in their answers, but each answered in their own unique way.
Throughout the protest, Jacinda Ardern and her government refused to meet with the protestors. If she had done so, this is what some of them might have said.

The REAL STORY of the POLICE on New Zealand Anti-mandate Protest Day 3
On Thursday, 12th February 2022, on the third day of the New Zealand Anti-mandate Protest / NZ Convoy, police engaged the protestors with force and arrested 122 people. To the dismay of the public, the show of force was heavy handed and provocative. It resulted in many injuries to the protestors who were attempting to hold a peaceful protest.
To combat the aggression shown by the police, they protestors linked arms, often turning their backs on the police and formed a “line” which they held to the best of there ability. The police used clever tactics to cause distractions and pluck out the smaller & weaker protestors, often women and the elderly, from the crowd and arrested them.
Jacinda Ardern, her government and the opposition signed an agreement, refusing to meet with the protestors. After the violent events of the third day of the convoy / protest, even greater numbers of protestors turned out in the subsequent days.
In this video, Christopher Best, from Upper Hutt, retells the events of the first three days from his perspective. He reveals that the younger and inexperienced police were brought to tears by what they saw that day.
The NZ Protest was inspired by the truckers of the Canadian Convoy.
The police footage was sourced from Chantelle Baker’s video archive. All other footage was filmed by John Mills.
Chris also features in my Protest Day 12 video - https://youtu.be/SZzf6Sn2XK8

New Zealand Anti-mandate Protest - Day 5 | Protestors Ignore Miserable Weather
Day 5 of the New Zealand Anti-mandate Protest at Parliament in Wellington. Despite miserable weather, thousands showed up.
People are camping on the lawn and under the trees. The lawn is in a muddy, soggy state due to heavy rain and Speaker of the House, Trevor Mallard ordering the sprinklers turned on during the night to deter the protestors and make them uncomfortable. Currently, the prime minister Jacinda Adern, nor any other politicians from the government or opposition have come to speak to the people. Day 5 was peaceful and no violence or arrests occurred between protestors and the police.
