Apple is working on a foldable iPhone prototype that may be the iPhone15 - it features two separate display panels that are connected by a hinge rather than a single display design like the Samsung Galaxy Fold, but this is not in line with Bloomberg's description of Apple's display work. According to Bloomberg, Apple has started "early work" on an ‌iPhone‌ with a foldable display, but the company has not yet committed to releasing a foldable device. Development has not yet expanded beyond a display and Apple does not have full foldable ‌‌iPhone‌‌ prototypes in its labs. Like foldable smartphones from other companies, a foldable ‌‌iPhone‌‌ would allow for Apple to create a larger display in a package that is still pocketable. Apple has discussed several foldable screen sizes, including one that unfolds to a size similar to the 6.7-inch display on the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and others in the 8 inch range. Apple's designs are said to have a "mostly invisible hinge" with electronics located behind the display rather than two panels separated by a visible hinge. In December 2020, a rumor from the Asian supply chain suggested that two of Apple's foldable ‌iPhone‌ prototypes have passed internal testing for durability, but this is not in line with rumors that work is early and has not progressed to a full device. Apple was allegedly testing two different foldable ‌iPhone‌ designs at the Foxconn factory in Shenzhen, China. One of these is said to be a dual-screen model with two separate displays connected by a hinge, while the other is a foldable ‌iPhone‌ with a clamshell design similar to the Galaxy Z Flip. The test devices have been described as shells with limited internals and not fully functional iPhones, and it continues to be unclear if this is a product that will make it to launch. Apple patents all kinds of things that never become finished products so patents aren't necessarily a reliable way to predict what's in development, but Apple has a few foldable ‌iPhone‌ patents -Apple in February 2020 was granted a patent for a foldable device with a hinge mechanism that utilizes movable flaps to help prevent the display from being creased or damaged when folded. The hinge mechanism is designed to ensure adequate separation between the first and second parts of the display. When the device is unfolded, movable flaps extend to cover the gap, and then retract when the device is folded. An Apple patent granted in March describes a unique alternative to a foldable ‌iPhone‌, explaining a system that would allow two or more devices to act as one when brought close to each other through the use of proximity sensors, and a 2020 patent filing suggests Apple is exploring a protective layer for a foldable ‌iPhone‌ that would resist cracking. The ‌iPhone‌ would feature a hardcoat layer that would fill pre-existing micro-cracks to make it harder for a larger crack to appear. The patent also deals with the use of fabric for the housing and a “third display portion” that would presumably come into play when the iPhone is folded, the two primary screens will face toward each other when folded, blocking access. Nevertheless, the fact that Apple has been granted this patent so soon after Samsung’s announcement suggests that a folding iPhone might not be as far off as we thought. Right now, it looks like 2023 is the earliest we're going to see a foldable ‌iPhone‌, with rumors suggesting 2024 is more likely.

According to industry executives and financial sources, crypto firms in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are being inundated with requests to sell billions of dollars in virtual currency as Russians seek a safe haven for their assets. According to the sources, some clients are utilizing bitcoin to invest in real estate in the UAE, while others want to use local firms to convert their virtual currency into physical currency and store it elsewhere. In the last ten days, one crypto firm has received numerous requests from Swiss brokers seeking to liquidate billions of dollars in bitcoin because their clients are concerned that Switzerland will freeze their assets, according to one executive, adding that none of the requests had been for less than $2 billion. "In the last two weeks, we've got maybe five or six. They haven't all come off yet – one of them fell over at the last minute, which isn't uncommon – but we've never had this much interest before "According to the CEO, his firm receives a significant transaction request once a month on average. "We have one person — I'm not sure who he is, but he came through a broker – who says, "We want to sell 125,000 bitcoin." 'What?' I think to myself. Guys, that's $6 billion. 'Yeah, we're going to send it to an Australian company,' they say "According to the executive, The Swiss financial market supervisor refuses to comment on the amount of bitcoin transactions. Crypto assets are subject to the same sanctions and restrictions that Switzerland has imposed on "normal" Russian assets and individuals, according to the country's economic affairs secretariat (SECO). If a person is sanctioned, their crypto assets must likewise be frozen in Switzerland. Russians were buying property in Dubai, according to a financial source in the UAE, who said they were utilizing cryptocurrency to transfer their money out of other countries and into the Gulf state. Cryptocurrency exchanges have announced that they are suspending the accounts of Russians sanctioned by the West as a result of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, which Moscow refers to as a "special operation" Nonetheless, because cryptocurrency provides users with a high level of anonymity, European countries such as Germany and Estonia have asked for stricter control this week to close any gaps that could allow sanctions to be circumvented. Three Western officials said they were becoming increasingly concerned about the growing number of Russians seeking refuge in the UAE for their fortunes, including property, in recent weeks, and were concerned that some of them might be acting on behalf of people subject to sanctions. Two of the diplomats expressed reservations about the UAE cracking down on Russian riches in the Gulf state, which they claimed was primarily held in Dubai, noting the UAE's neutral posture in the conflict. A third expressed hope that the UAE, which is also a gold trading centre, was aware of the consequences and would take action.

Despite an initial spike in usage, interest in both concepts appears to be waning, at least according to Google search statistics, which have seen steep declines for both phrases. Nearly every big publisher in the gaming industry, appears to have been scared straight on NFTs after being slammed by fans every time they are mentioned, and those have been consigned to strictly blockchain-based games outside of the industry. The phrase "metaverse" has been thrown around so much that it's nearly lost its meaning. These days, it's most commonly used to refer to blockchain-based shared worlds with concurrent player averages outside the top 200-300 titles on Steam at any given time. When Facebook changed its name to Meta and began preaching about the digital future, interest in the word metaverse skyrocketed. But, since then, the word has lost its luster because neither Facebook nor its blockchain-based competitors have offered a clear vision for the notion. Meanwhile, NFTs peaked around the end of January and have been steadily declining since then. This should dispel the notion that the global breaking news of Russia invading Ukraine caused the reduction in interest for this phrase and possibly many others, as we can see from the graph that interest was already dwindling a month before the invasion. Since then, it's been a steady fall that shows no signs of abating. The same cannot be said for the entire area. The popularity of terms like crypto, blockchain, Ethereum, and Bitcoin peaked in the spring of last year, but they've since leveled down. Many people believe that all of the forecasts about NFTs being the inevitable future and the metaverse being the birthplace of web 2.0 are exaggerated. I wouldn't be shocked if these concepts reappeared with new names in the future to feel more contemporary, but for now, interest in both is definitely diminishing, and I'm curious what will happen to the millions of NFTs kept when the speculative market ceases to work as it once did. We're going to find out if we continue on our current route. If we stay on this current path, we’re about to find out.
