Girlfriends,
It's the dawn of a glam new year. I hope you're reading these words from a place of restwith a mug of whatever is your favorite right now, and can take a few minutes to connect with me.
Last year, I held space to re-evaluate what it is I’m creating with all four pillars of Paper & Glam: planning, book club, seasonal living and Bible study.
Here's what I know is true:
I want to build something beautiful with you, something meaningful, something that creates a before and an after in your life.
What has the power to change a life,to create a turning point, amoment you look back at as thecatalyst for reinvention?Community.
We all need safe spaces for authentic connection right now, and it's with this heart that I am building out the new era of Paper & Glam. My goal is true communitywhere we are known and seen as friendsand as sisters, gathering together from my living room to yours.
The new era of Paper & Glam is personal, inviting, intimate, and…distinctly and divinelyfeminine.
Today, I amintroducing the new era of the Paper & Glam Book Club.If you're wondering how reading books with me is going to change your life, here's the answer:
What starts as a shared love of booksblossoms into lifelong friendships across states, and across countries. Books hold stories that build bridges for love to walk across, from one heart to another.
Wherever we are in our lives or in our days, we're carrying around the same book, the words of which act as an invisible pink string tying us together, and to this lifestyle we call P&G.
With love & joy,
Lisamarie✨
Any time women come together with a collective intention, it’s a powerful thing. Whether it’s in a kitchen preparing a meal, in a club reading the same book or planning a birthday party, when women come together with a collective intention, magic happens.— Phylicia Rashad
A NOTE ABOUT THE READER TIER:
This tier is now a tip jar plus my Type Awesome Reading Spreadsheet. When I filmed this video, it also included the 2020 content. Unfortunately, lots of gals where joining to get our 2021 Reading List and immediately canceling, which is not the heart behind this tier.

Ice Breaker - How do you plan to create ambiance and atmosphere for The Autobiography of Santa Claus next month? Is there music you plan to listen to, a candle to burn, snacks that pair well, etc.?
1. What was your experience reading Campaign Widows and how many 🗳 (ballots) would you rate it?
2. Which widow did you most relate to? Which widow would you want to be friends with and why?
3. Campaign Widows shows us a behind the scenes peek at election season. Did this fictionalized account from several perspectives (party planner, commentator, campaign stuff, journalist and reporter) give you any new insight into our elections?
4. What would each widow have to say about the idea of “having it all,” the notion of successfully balancing personal and professional lives? How does this theme relate to your own life?
5. How is the theme of interdependence woven throughout the novel? What type of message does the story send about believing in yourself and taking chances?
6. Discuss the tone at the end of the novel. How did you feel about the way the author chose to conclude the story?

Happy Book Club Thursday, Glam Readers! 📘🍂
Here are our discussion questions for Lock Every Door:
Ice Breaker - How do you create ambiance and atmosphere for your fall reading? Is there music you listen to, or candles you burn, snacks that pair well, etc. What pairs well with the vibe or theme of this book or November’s read?
1. What was your experience reading Lock Every Door and how many 🚪 (doors) would you rate it?
2. This is the second book we’ve read in a row with a plot revolving around a book. Like our September selection, Jon Cohen’s Harry’s Trees, Riley Sager’s Lock Every Door explores the line between fantasy and fiction. (Page (p. 114 & 245-246) How does your reading life and your personal life explore the line between fantasy and fiction?
3. Are the poems Ingrid sent Jules significant? I didn’t see a tie but when there’s an authorial literary flex it’s time to do some digging.
- Page 49: I could Not Stop For Death by Emily Dickenson - https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/47652/because-i-could-not-stop-for-death-479
- Page 70: Remember by Christina Rossetti - https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45000/remember-56d224509b7ae
- Page 71: Fire & Ice by Robert Frost - https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/44263/fire-and-ice
- Page 133: The Bells by Edgar Allan Poe - https://poets.org/poem/bells
4. How does Lock Every Door explore what it means to be haunted by the past, both our own and the past of the places we occupy? Have you ever been haunted by the past?
5. When did you realize the identity of the killer?
(Sidenote: There is also a blue moon on Halloween this year, yikes!)
6. Sager (a man) seems to be prodding at society’s dismissal of young adult women as disposable, and also at fault, crazy, and in need of calm. This is highlighted in the way Jules unceremoniously loses her job, her boyfriend and ultimately her sanity, leaving her without viable options. On page 265, her voice is literally taken from her as she is physically silenced by two males who are ostensibly there to help her. Finally, she loses control of her body. Do you feel that theme is a through-line in the novel and throughout the thriller genre?

Here are our discussion questions for Harry's Trees:
Ice Breaker - Do you have a reading routine? If so, what does your reading life look like?
1. What was your experience reading Harry's Trees and how many 🌱 (seedlings) would you rate it?
2. Harry’s Trees is a the story of two widowers attempting to “right their worlds” after the devastating loss of their spouses. At a time when we’re all working towards “righting our worlds,” this plot line felt especially timely. To quote the Lion, the Witch, & The Wardrobe and paraphrase Harry’s Trees, “it’s always winter and never spring.” How did Harry, Amanda, Oriana and/or Ronnie’s path to healing resonate with you as you worked to overcome loss?
3. According to Harry, "Everybody's got a special tree, whether currently as an adult, or a tree from childhood." What is it about us humans and our love for trees and nature, yet the constant drive towards the cities and suburbs keeps us in a constant state of anxiety and lacking peace? Do you have a special tree or spot in nature from childhood or in your life today that brings you peace?
4. Harry's Treesis based on the belief that "the ordinary world is extraordinary, all the time, for everyone." What is meant by the "ordinary" world, and does that world have special meaning for you? (Thank you, Lit Lovers)
5. What creates the magical feel to this otherwise realistic novel? The book asks the question, where does reality end and magic take over? Where do you think the lines are drawn…in the book and /or in real life? What roles do chance or luck play in our lives. (Thank you, Lit Lovers)

Happy Book Club Thursday, Paper and Glam Readers!
Here are our discussion questions for Maud:
Ice Breaker - Do you annotate your books or otherwise track your reading? If so, how? If not, any reason why?
1. What was your experience reading Maud and how many 📕 would you rate it?
2. Maud is a fictionalized account of L.M. Montgomery's teenage years as she navigates the choice between her duty and her dreams. Told in 3 distinct parts based on her physical location, what do you think about this episodic structure that is reminiscent of Montgomery's novel titles and how do you think the structure ties in with the themes of purpose, duty, and identity?
3. L.M. Montgomery was a great lover and master of the written word. Are there any passages or scenes that stood out to you as particularly moving or emblematic of the reading and writing life?
4. “This novel takes place while Maud is discovering what it means to be a writer and a woman. During a period where women’s education (let alone being a writer) was considered inappropriate. Maud’s passion, ambition, and dream for education set her apart. She didn’t have the luxury that many women in the Western world have today, of being allowed to choose between ambition and career or love and marriage.”What do you think it means to be a woman and a professional? What insights about that balance have you discovered?
5. The inspiration for this Paper & Book Club selection was an episode of the 14th episode of the What Should I Read Next? Podcast that discussed L.M. Montgomery’s journals. In the author’s note, these journals are also discussed. Did you find L.M. Montgomery’s record of her life inspiring? Do you to keep a journal or record your days?
6. Do you have any recommendations for the L.M. Montgomery fans who want to know more about her life and times?

American Royals 🎇
JOIN THE PATRON EXPERIENCE HERE: https://www.patreon.com/paperandglambookclub
Happy Book Club Thursday, Paper and Glam Readers!
Here are our discussion questions for American Royals:
Ice Breaker - What are you reading, watching, and/or listening to this week?
1. What was your experience reading American Royals and how many 🎇 would you rate it?
2. American Royals is a novel told from the point of view of Beatrice, Samantha, Nina, and Daphne. Was there a particular PoV you enjoyed the most or character you related to? Did you find any of the four love stories more compelling than the others?
3. American Royals offersa thought experiment about how our daily lives would have been impacted if the founders of the current United States had remained faithful to the idea of constitutional monarchy? How successful do you think Katharine McGee was in painting this imagined world? How different is the life of Royals to those raised in the public eye (such as political figures or celebrities)?
4. Throughout the novel, there is constant pressure on Beatrice to pick a husband from a pool of "suitable" bachelors with the main reasoning being so that Beatrice has someone to lean on when the struggles of the monarchy get to be too much. Do you think that reasoning is valid or do you think it has more to do with the fact that America has never had a female monarch before and the "people" would feel better if there was a male figurehead at her side?
5. Even though Nina has been close to the royal twins since they were children, she strictly separates her life between being the royal best friend and being Nina, the college student, to the point of lying to her non-royal friends about her whereabouts and not having any pictures of her and Sam together. Do you agree with her reasonings for this or do you think that she was just being overly cautious?
6. What would you recommend for our readers if they enjoyed American Royals?

3. One True Loves challenges the idea that a person can only have one true love that is super prominent in books and movies. Do you think that a person can only have one "once in a lifetime" loves or do you think it's possible to have more than one soul mate?
4. Throughout the book there's an underlying theme of identity and figuring out who you are. As a teen and young adult, Emma rebels against being "The Bookseller's Daughter" but as a 30-something embraces that role wholeheartedly until Jesse returns. Have you had similar experiences with your own identity?
5. Throughout the book, Emma transitions from being an avid non-reader to enjoying books and becoming her family's bookstore owner. How did you become a reader and if you were a reluctant reader as a child - any advice for non-readers or parents of reluctant readers?
6. One True Loves raises the eternal "if you had it to do all over again" dilemma. Why do these narratives so frequently begin in highschool? Do you find you are inclined to begin your story from the point of view of your teenage self?
7. (OPTIONAL] What should our readers read next if they enjoyed One True Loves?

The Last Black Unicorn 🦄
JOIN THE PATRON EXPERIENCE HERE: https://www.patreon.com/paperandglambookclub
Happy Book Club Thursday, Glam Readers!
Can’t wait to see you tonight at 6 PM PST/9 PM EST live on YouTube.
Here are our discussion questions for The Last Black Unicorn:
Ice Breaker - Are there any new releases you’re excited to read this summer?
1. What was your experience reading The Last Black Unicorn? How many 🦄 would you rate it?
2. Were you familiar with Tiffany Haddish's work prior to this work? Or, if you hadn't heard of her before this pick, did this make you want to check out any of her comedy/movies?
3. What was your favorite quote or laugh out loud moment?
4. Tiffany Haddish is an artist who is unapologetically candid about her life experiences in both her comedy and in this first foray into memoir writing. What was your impression about the tone of her style and how relevant was this tone to her overall storytelling?
5. In the chapter titled "The Ex-Husband,” Tiffany says that even though she was hurt and messed up, she couldn't ask for help or give up on her marriage because it would feel like she fail. What do you think about her statement? Have you ever felt this way regarding a decision you made or an experience?
6. In many ways this is a "rags to riches" story. Even after becoming an A-List Celebrity, Tiffany Haddish holds on to some of her "poor" mindsets such as not owning a purse that she can't put the cost of the purse into or looking to pawn a 1,200 bag in order to pay her electric bill a year in advance. Do you relate at all with the "rags to riches" storyline or Tiffany's rationale after becoming rich and famous?

Glitter ⚜️
JOIN THE PATRON EXPERIENCE HERE: https://www.patreon.com/paperandglambookclub
Happy Book Club Thursday, Glam Readers!
Here are our discussion questions for Glitter:
Ice Breaker - Are there any new releases you’re excited to read this spring?
1. What was your experience reading Glitter? How many fleur de lis ⚜️ would you rate it? There are French words in italics as well as some English words, what do you think the author or publisher's reasoning behind this emphasis was?
2. This novel examines the idea of freedom and imprisonment in a variety of ways. What do you think the author is trying to convey regarding the construct of freedom? In what ways do constraints add to and/or detract from freedom?
3. [From the Book] When you put a lot of time and effort into something -- such as a hobby, relationship, tv show -- you may find it difficult to give up on that thing even when it stops being good, useful, or enjoyable. How does Danica fall prey to this with regard to her escape plan? At what point, if any, should she have chosen differently?
4. The royal courts of Kings Louis XIV - XVI were decadent and lush, but this was the very thing that led to their ultimate demise. Why do you think Pike chose this as the era for her world to highlight? How does it relate to the decadence of our own time and the direction in which we are heading (particularly pre COVID-19)?
5. What luxuries of Sonoman-Versailles would you like to enjoy? Does it seem reasonable to think that a large corporation could someday purchase an entire area and become its own self-governed microchasm?
6. Young girls often dream of being princesses and queens. What did you envision someone in this role did as a child as opposed to the reality? Danica seemed surprised at what the role entailed even though she was raised as nobility and moved to Versailles as a young girl. Based on this first book (teaser for the sequel Shatter), were you surprised at what being a princess/queen entailed. Now knowing what was expected, would you take on that role if given the opportunity?

Happy Paper & Glam Book Club Thursday, Glam Readers!
Here are our discussion questions for The Testaments:
Ice Breaker - How are you staying safe and sane at home?
1. What was your experience reading The Testaments? How many green 📗 books would you rate it? If you read The Handmaid’s Tale, how did it compare?
2. The structure an author chooses tells us a lot about how we should experience it. What did you make of the structure of The Testaments? What do you suppose she was trying to achieve by giving voice to 3 separate characters? How do the introductory quotations relate to any/all/each of them?
3. When did you put together the identities of each narrator?
4. Were you surprised by Aunt Lydia’s beginnings in Gilead? Did your view of her change now vs The Handmaid’s Tale? How might THT changed for you, the reader, knowing her story beforehand?
5. What parallels do you see in The Testaments unfolding around us today as our global community combats the coronavirus? What scenes or quotes stood out to you as particularly haunting?
6. Margaret Atwood is a master of the written word. Are there any passages or scenes you marked or highlighted we haven’t yet discussed?
7. Did you notice the two women on the front as well as the two on the back of the dust jacket? Did this give you hints to how the story might end? There are so many incredibly prophetic parallels to our current global crisis and I can’t wait to discuss it with you.

2. Which pair of sisters did you find the most relatable?
