4. YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS = YOUR MARKETING

One of my favorite quotes is “the only constant in life is change”. This is a healing message to remind yourself of as you approach your reset day. I think most of us view healing as a linear journey.
We believe that once you start healing, you will progress and progress into a better and better version of yourself. But unfortunately for all of us, that is just not the way this journey on this Earth works, and we may need to relearn the same lessons many times in order for the lessons to stick.
The critical part of healing is that we keep coming back and we do not give up on ourselves, no matter how many times we need to have ourselves a reset day.
Here are a few ways I reset myself when I’ve been feeling out of alignment and need to find my way back:
1. PREPARE FOR IT - The night before a reset day, I try to set my intentions for the day. Not a “to-do” list or a list of goals, but instead a mindset or energy I’d like to bring into the day. Such as being more present.
2. GO TO BED EARLY - No matter how awake and alive you feel the night before, put yourself to bed at a decent time. I used to be much more of a night owl, but recently I have been looking at going to bed early as a positive trade-off.
3. UNPLUG IN THE MORNING - A lot of life is just momentum, I’ve noticed that the way I start my day is often how my day is going to continue to go. Try to keep your phone off in the morning so that you can focus deeply on something right away and get your mind set on mono-tasking.
4. HAVE REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS FOR YOUR DAY - If you have been down in the dumps for weeks and you are trying to do a reset day, understand that you may not be able to turn your entire mindset and momentum around in one single reset day. Try resetting a single area of your life around at a time. Maybe for a few days try resetting your cleaning habits, or your exercise routine, or getting back on track at work.
Don’t overload yourself by trying to reset all areas of your life at the same time and instead focus on particular areas until they become a habit for you and you can move on to the next area of your life.
5. TRY TIME-BLOCKING - I want to make an entire video about the time-blocking system I have used for the past two years. I recently found out that Elon Musk also uses this system so it’s got his endorsement as well. Time-blocking is a really useful skill for planning, managing, and maximizing the usefulness of your time.
One of my favorite phrases is “what gets tracks gets improved”, so tracking how you are spending your time can really help you to make the most out of your reset day and help you understand where all your time is actually going to.
6. CELEBRATE YOUR VICTORIES - Starting off with small goals is really the key to being able to celebrate later. Take account of what positive steps you took and give yourself a pat on the back. Even if all you did today was change your attitude towards a more positive outlook and start believing that you can reset, then that is still a huge win in the right direction. You don’t need to move mountains on your first day of trying to get your life back on track, you just need to start shifting your mindset in the right direction so you can start the process of moving forward.

So you need to ground yourself in the present and remind your body that you are safe. Here are four ways you can ground yourself before you sit for meditation or anytime during your meditation when you find it necessary:

3. OPENING YOUR EYES
4. NAMING THINGS YOU NOTICE

Category #2 - TIPS FOR EMOTIONAL REGULATION
What you can do if something emotionally overwhelming or fear-inducing pops up during meditation?
1. With any of these practices, if distress does arise, shift your focus to self-nurturing with a resource pathway, to loving kindness, and/or being with your anchor.
2. You might also shift to walking or moving meditation.
3. Titrating & Pendulating - Meditation can be a profound part of our healing from trauma. Our task is to discover which meditations serve us and how best to employ them. The key in moving forward is finding the right balance between the courage to explore and stretch, and the wisdom that knows what’s enough.
4. Have an internal remember that you can also stop practicing altogether and turn to some more external form of self-nurturing—reaching out to a trusted person, listening to music, having tea, walking outside, etc.

I experienced what others have coined the phrase “spontaneous recovery”, where I did not do a program, plan it out, or even honestly try very hard, I just all of a sudden, on no special date, realized that I no longer felt like alcohol had a place in my life and I honestly was extremely turned off by the idea of drinking in general. I did not have to fight temptations because there just was absolutely no desire to drink at that point.
It felt like, instead of being an alcoholic who needed to quit, I just turned into a “non-drinker”, someone who never was tempted to drink, never really thought about drinking, and didn’t enjoy the experience of drinking.
My experience of “spontaneous sobriety” was both a long time coming and all at once.
1. Quit Lit - This is the number 1 thing I will say helped me during my recovery. In my experience, the main thing you need to do to recover is changing your mindset about drinking and wake up to how unappealing drinking actually is.
2. Break the Ice - Isolating yourself in early sobriety can be really helpful, but it can also lead to stress/fears about how you will introduce your new way of being to friends, and it may get really lonely and may cause you to believe sobriety is a lonely existence.
3. Make it enjoyable - If you quit drinking and then show up to the next party without water, you may feel deprived. Brin a really enjoyable mocktail or get really into coffee.
4. Know You are a Light - Understanding that most people secretly look up to you or wish they had the courage to do what you’re doing.
5. Affirm your choice often - Once you are in a rhythm with sobriety, it can feel like you are coasting and you can start taking your sobriety for granted, which can cause you to slip back into old ways of being.
Don’t reflect too long on bad choices you made while drinking because that can lead to shame and shame can lead to relapses. Instead, think of how happy you are you did not keep going in that direction and feel a sense of PRIDE for changing your life. You can choose to feel ashamed of your past or proud of yourself now, always pick the latter.

Slow living is both exactly what it sounds like and so much more. It is the profound act of slowing down, doing less, and savoring more.
I saw a quote today that I love… “The four natural sanctuaries are silence, solitude, stillness and simplicity.”
What are some helpful tips for learning how to slow down?
1. Meditation. My number 1 tip for slowing down, is meditation, meditation and meditation. I honestly don’t know if living slowly is even possible without this practice. There are so many great books out there on meditation, and they all appeal to different audiences.
For very beginners who are skeptical about the entire process, I recommend “10% Happier”, and for more seasoned meditators, I also recommend I recommend Tara Brach’s “True Refuge”.
2. Music & silence. My second tip is playing some light, atmospheric, peaceful music in your home. Music is an amazing way to intentionally set a mood or change your pace.
3. Start your day slowly
4. Mono-Tasking. Not multi-tasking. Along those lines, do one thing at a time whenever you can, and be fully present in it. Really try hard to stop multitasking
5. Follow natural cycles. Daily cycles of waking and sleeping by keeping the lights low and minimal, monthly menstrual cycles, seasonal cycles of resting in the winter and activity in the summer
6. Get embodied. Feel your body, do yoga, massage, stretching, breathing exercises, dancing, walks etc.
7. Minimalize your things. Focus on quality over quantity. Create from Scratch. Instead of fast-fashion, Amazon, etc.
8. Spend time with Pets
Ram Dass once said, "we are all walking each other home". I hope it is a slow, long, walk to wherever we are all heading.

I worked in environmental consulting for 8 years between 2014 and 2022. I’ve been through what felt like “it all” and I know how tough it can be. I still look back at my experience fondly, but almost in the say way that veterans talk about war stories, it is definitely “Type B” fun.
I still talk to a lot of my friends from consulting and a lot of our conversations feel trauma bonded and I generally wonder if that has to do with my ability and impulse to reframe everything into a positive experience, because honestly, it was really really a difficult experience and I am happy to have made it into a different industry.
From early mornings (4am) on a barge in the middle of the coldest Feburary in DC, sticking my hands into ice cold water all day for water samples, to brutal summer days carrying heavy equipment around an active landfill, I really do think I experience all there was to experience physically and mentally at my previous job.
Depending on the project it could be incredibily boring and mentally un-stimulating (if you were stuck on an excavation), and at other times, it was extremely challenging and felt like the changes I was facing belonged to someone with much more experience and training than me.
I ultimately left the industry due to health challenges I was facing, which I also want to make a video about, but in retrospect there were a number of aspects of the job that left me unsatisfied and I think would have ultimately lead me to leave the industry eventually.
So how did I end up leaving consulting?
- I had the right motivation
- From working at previous consulting firms, I knew that many of the issues I was facing at my current company were industry wide and not specific to my company or position.
- I looked at where my higher ups and mid-level managers were and asked myself if they were living a life that I wanted
- I was very disillusioned by the industry
- It was affecting my health
- I was open to new experiences
- I was willing to work part-time or freelance
- I was willing to take a pay cut and be a beginner again
- I reached out to people within my network.
OPPORTUNITIES OPEN UP WHEN YOU OPEN UP
Look on LinkedIn for someone with the job title or position you’d like
- Ask them for a conversation about their job and how they got to where they were
- Don’t feel shy or like you are burdening these people.
- Most people LOVE talking about themselves and you will make them feel special
- Most people will tell you it was a crapshoot but it may give you some sort of a direction, path, or a list of contacts/companies to reach out to
KNOW YOUR WORTH
-Whether you think so or not, you do have marketable skills that can find you a job not in your industry
- You can apply the knowledge you’ve gotten from consulting to a number of different jobs if you think creatively

-A secret document, published in declassified form for the first time by the Guardian today, reveals that the US Air Force came dramatically close to detonating an atom bomb over North Carolina that would have been 260 times more powerful than the device that devastated Hiroshima.
The document, obtained by the investigative journalist Eric Schlosser under the Freedom of Information Act, gives the first conclusive evidence that the US was narrowly spared a disaster of monumental proportions when two Mark 39 hydrogen bombs were accidentally dropped over Goldsboro, North Carolina on 23 January 1961. The bombs fell to earth after a B-52 bomber broke up in mid-air, and one of the devices behaved precisely as a nuclear weapon was designed to behave in warfare: its parachute opened, its trigger mechanisms engaged, and only one low-voltage switch prevented untold carnage.
Each bomb carried a payload of 4 megatons – the equivalent of 4 million tons of TNT explosive. Had the device detonated, lethal fallout could have been deposited over Washington, Baltimore, Philadelphia and as far north as New York city – putting millions of lives at risk.
Though there has been persistent speculation about how narrow the Goldsboro escape was, the US government has repeatedly publicly denied that its nuclear arsenal has ever put Americans' lives in jeopardy through safety flaws. But in the newly-published document, a senior engineer in the Sandia national laboratories responsible for the mechanical safety of nuclear weapons concludes that "one simple, dynamo-technology, low voltage switch stood between the United States and a major catastrophe".
Writing eight years after the accident, Parker F Jones found that the bombs that dropped over North Carolina, just three days after John F Kennedy made his inaugural address as president, were inadequate in their safety controls and that the final switch that prevented disaster could easily have been shorted by an electrical jolt, leading to a nuclear burst. "It would have been bad news – in spades," he wrote.
Jones dryly entitled his secret report "Goldsboro Revisited or: How I learned to Mistrust the H-Bomb" – a quip on Stanley Kubrick's 1964 satirical film about nuclear holocaust, Dr Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb.
The accident happened when a B-52 bomber got into trouble, having embarked from Seymour Johnson Air Force base in Goldsboro for a routine flight along the East Coast. As it went into a tailspin, the hydrogen bombs it was carrying became separated. One fell into a field near Faro, North Carolina, its parachute draped in the branches of a tree; the other plummeted into a meadow off Big Daddy's Road.
Jones found that of the four safety mechanisms in the Faro bomb, designed to prevent unintended detonation, three failed to operate properly. When the bomb hit the ground, a firing signal was sent to the nuclear core of the device, and it was only that final, highly vulnerable switch that averted calamity. "The MK 39 Mod 2 bomb did not possess adequate safety for the airborne alert role in the B-52," Jones concludes.
The document was uncovered by Schlosser as part of his research into his new book on the nuclear arms race, Command and Control. Using freedom of information, he discovered that at least 700 "significant" accidents and incidents involving 1,250 nuclear weapons were recorded between 1950 and 1968 alone.
"The US government has consistently tried to withhold information from the American people in order to prevent questions being asked about our nuclear weapons policy," he said. "We were told there was no possibility of these weapons accidentally detonating, yet here's one that very nearly did."
