Designing 'Safe' Schools: Identifying Areas of Research in School Safety & Security
This 5 minute video describes the results of a literature review I conducted regarding peer-reviewed research spanning a ten year period, regarding four terms: safe schools, school safety, school security, and school shootings. The results indicate that the academic field of architecture is not conducting research on these important concepts leaving academic fields such as criminology, psychology, education, and law among others to engage in rigorous research. As a result, it appears that architects are left with little high-quality research to base decisions on when it comes to designing for safety and security.
