A Manga Like No Other | Gunsmith Cats RTFM Part 2
Welcome back! If you're here hopefully that means you already watched Part 1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NbEyJy--uQs and now you want to dive into the Gunsmith Cats manga with me. Things go a lot harder in the source material on this one with more gun talk, more car chases, and a lot more risqué situations. Being written and illustrated by Kenichi Sonoda alone, the series has a lot more of his personal tastes baked in. That means long explanations about the mechanics of various firearms, discussions about 80's action movies, and an excessive amount of car talk. With his personal touch and the fact that it is (too my knowledge) the only manga set in the city of Chicago, Gunsmith Cats is a truly unique series. I hope you enjoy the video and that you take the time to track down GSC and Read the F@&%ing Manga!
Almost all of the music in this video is from a Gunsmith Cats Soundtrack which is not from the OVA but I believe from a radio drama for the series and it can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uphtwd8yN8I&t=0s

What If a Canon Film Was an Anime? | Gunsmith Cats RTFM Part 1
From 1995 to 1996, three episodes of an Original Video Animation or OVA were released animating an original story set in the world of Gunsmith Cats. The original manga created by Kenichi Sonata (who some anime fans may know for doing character art/designs for Bubblegum Crisis) ran from 1991 to 1997 with a continuation Gunsmith Cats Burst running from 2004 to 2008. Despite it's quality the OVA and manga have remained relatively obscure to modern anime fans and hopefully this video will help to change that. Join me as I discuss the merits of the OVA and stay tuned for part 2 when we'll dive into everything from the comic that was left out.

6 Things Better than the Sonic Live-Action Movie
Originally Uploaded to YouTube 12/28/2018
Okay so, right off the bat two things:
1. This was supposed to be a shorter video to react to a more recent event, but because I apparently seem barely capable of making a video under 15 minutes long it turned to a much bigger task. What’s more, I pretty much had to stop myself from turning most of the things on this list into 20 minutes videos in themselves. Hopefully I can get another video finished before I start work again but this is probably the last of 2018.
2. I was sick when I recorded this video. I did my best to use the best takes and the outro is post sickness but some parts might sound crappy, sorry about that.
I hope you enjoy this list recommendations for all things Sonic and that I can encourage you to pick at least one of these things up. Sonic has been a part of my life pretty much as long as I can remember and although that might spell doom for others, I think I turned out somewhat normal and would love to make others understand the positives of our Blue Messiah.

The Search For More Money: How Netflix's Cowboy Bebop Lost A Fanbase By Trying to Find A New One
Originally Uploaded to YouTube 1/17/22
In this video I posit that the failure of Netflix's Cowboy Bebop adaptation is not only due to the horrible writing, horrible acting, or other elements of general horribleness, but also to the fact that Netflix alienated the original fanbase of Bebop. They did so by focusing too hard on making changes that might update the series and bring in a new modern audience, all the while not realizing that every change they made caused more and more true fans to smell a rat and jump ship. At the end of the day they ended up with a product barely resembling Bebop that failed to bring in the new market they wanted, and that old fans only hate watched in order to cherry pick the worst moments to include in their cringe compilations. I also try to explain how mistakes like this happen. What is the thought process behind making such drastic changes when adapting an existing property? Why make any changes at all? Are these changes really necessary? Come watch me poorly explain all of these points in a video that really should have been three separate videos less smooshed together!

Why Would a Weeb LOVE Japan
Originally Uploaded to YouTube 9/14/2020
About a year ago, I put out a video explaining why, despite my love for Japanese culture, I decided to leave Japan after living their for two years. That video was primarily negative and I wanted to make a more positive one to balance that out. The plan was for them to be back to back. Instead I put out three videos in the interim and took a full year to finish (which was not the goal I promise you). In this video I go over the thing I loved about Japan, from the food, to the hot springs, to the high quality toilets. I hope you enjoy this bit of positivity in between my all my whining.
Many of the pictures and videos in this are mine and were taken while I lived in Sendai. Many however were not and I didn't keep good enough track of what various YouTube channels I borrowed them from which I feel bad about. The only one I can (and should) shout out right now is
https://www.youtube.com/user/Rambalac
whose channel has a ton of great videos of walking through various areas in Japan which made great B-roll and are a real fun watch

The Death of Manga Rock and the Decline of Scanlations | The Cancer Killing Anime
Originally Uploaded to YouTube 5/2/2020
Since it's beginnings, the anime fandom has relied heavily on fan localization to provide it's content. From bootleg tapes in convention hotel rooms to sub and scanlation groups releasing current series, piracy has long been at the core of a community that had few other choices to get their fix. However, with the growth of the demand for anime outside of Japan and the domination of companies created for or pivoting to the licensing of Japanese animation, the need for this morally dubious and definitely illegal practice is in question. Fan-generated content is on it's way out, will anything of value be lost? Let's talk about it.

Like 80's Anime? Watch Blade Runner
Originally Uploaded to YouTube 11/23/2019
Blade Runner is one of the most influential movies ever made. The film has inspired creators across the globe to pay it homage or just completely rip it off. The influence of Blade Runner on Japanese Animation cannot be understated and the popularity of movies like Ghost in the Shell and Akira further gave inspiration. If you haven't seen Blade Runner, this month (the month in which the movie is set) is the perfect time to watch it. If you have seen Blade Runner, fuck you go watch it again.

What is the Most Common Joke in Anime?
Originally Uploaded to YouTube 10/19/2018
If your a fan of anime but you don't read much manga, you may have never noticed the ways creators use Kanji, the Chinese characters used in Japanese, in their character's names. These kanji add an element to characters that can serve comedic or expository functions. In this video, we look at some examples of this convention and how it informs the characterization is a number of anime.

Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san and the many works of Souichiro Yamamoto
Originally Uploaded to YouTube 11/14/2018
It's not unheard of for manga to get spin-offs or share continuity with other works. It is however uncommon to have multiple works within the same series running simultaneously written by multiple authors; at least as far as I know. Let's take a look at Souichiro Yamamoto and his flagship series Karakai Jouzu no Takagi-san, and examine how his work-style sets him apart from the rest. Along the way we'll dip our toes into his core series's companion pieces Ashita wa Douyobi, Koi ni koisuru Yukari-chan, and Karakai Jouzu (moto) Takagi-san to see just how this unique release structure may be a taste of what the future holds. There's even hitherto unseen in the west pages from a recent release that I personally scanned at a nearby Family Mart specially for you!
Bonus point: this video contains a sick hand reveal from me, nursing or pregnant mothers may not want to view the video due to the damaging effect the sheer brilliance my hands may have.

What is Outrage Marketing and Will It Influence Anime? | The Cancer Killing Anime
Originally Uploaded to YouTube 8/3/2018
In which we delve into the modern trend of outrage marketing. Are fanboys really so toxic and hateful towards things that are different? Yes. Does that mean the things they hate are flawless? No. Will the Anime Industry ever weaponize the hate it gets from fans as a tool to mask the issues in its financially crucial series? Or will it just continue to mock them on twitter and tell them to "calm down nerds"? Perhaps only time will tell...
