Cardboard enclosure for the small CNC ECB [engraved circuit board] is done!
This should not only keep the fiberglass dust contained but also make it nearly silent.
Originally meant to be just a mock-up, it came out so good that I may just use it as is.

CNC PCB Production Attempt #1
Wherein we make our first attempt to produce my own PCB.
Technically it is not "printed", it's an Engraved Circuit Board.
The purpose of this board is to provide a simple I2C Bus Driver test board to try out various I2C parts.
I2C port with power & ground - button to trigger tests - LED to blink status codes - Power On LED.
I had this on a breadboard but the connections are unreliable. Once it's test the design files will be made available on our Pateron to members at any level.

How NOT to build an LED display
Looks like I missed a couple of key components on this design.
Not only did I forget the per element current limiting resistors but also whatever would stop the signals from being so noisy.
I know they are noisy because the second board has no chip and it self-clocks and eventually loads all 1's.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Punch Card Reader Success! {If you're willing to work for it}
Wherein I demonstrate the EUP5108 Retro Punch Card Reader.
This project was far more difficult than I thought it would be and most of that trouble comes from the inconsistent nature of the photo-resistors. Not only were they not anywhere near each other in value but they were very sensitive to the slight bit of variability in the placement of the holes making alignment nearly impossible.

Wherein we discuss making a calibrated LED light pen that can be used to figure out what bias resistors to use for each sensor of the EUP5108 Punch Card Reader.

We (thought we) learned last time that the light sensors (photo resistors) would best be read using the Analog inputs - in practice we just dropped the LEDs for each bit and used the digital inputs as originally planned - but some sensors were way more sensitive than others so reading the card data was unreliable.
Still to do: Showing how I connected the sensor bar to an Arduino nano microcontroller along with the code used to read the punch card data into the computer.

The Punch Cards Are In!
The punch cards are back from the business card printer and they are beautifully colorful. However, it all has a purpose - the color coding of the dots allows me to see both where I need to punch the hole as well as what value that bit has.

Arduino Sensor Bar!... Assemble!
Wherein I create a sensor bar to hold the light sensors for the physical version of the EUP5108 Punch Card reader.
This circuit on TinkerCad WAS the basis of the physical design but as we shall see few simulations stand up to variability of actual electronic hardware.

We learned last time that the light sensors (photo resistors) would best be read using the Analog inputs to get light brightness values of 0..1023 rather than trying to manually match the resistance values to get a clean 0/1 reading on the digital inputs. We will still have to use one of the digital input pins for the data-ready input (bottom row of green dots on the cards).
In the end these will be connected to a Arduino nano microcontroller based embedded system to read the punch card data into the computer.
