San Franciscos Disaster Building
The Millennium Tower
This residential tower was completed in 2009 and now stands as the 6th tallest building in San Francisco. With a total cost of $350 million, the construction process went smoothly. Residents of the Millenium Tower found out that it was sinking & leaning in 2016. They had spent up to $13 million on their units. The tower was built in a location with soft soil and not bedrock, which meant it didn't have the strength needed to support the heavy building.
The Millennium Tower had sunk 40 centimeters or 16 inches only 7 years after it opened. The building was leaning 15 centimeters at the top. Lawyers started filing suits as soon as this information got out.
The City of San Francisco and a neighboring homeowner's association filed a lawsuit against the team that was responsible for building the Transbay Transit Center. It appeared that the problem stemmed from construction occurring on different properties belonging to different groups of developers. They blamed another company who was involved in building the transit center, but it turned out that this wasn't what caused it after all.
September 2018, a number of residents reported hearing cracking and creaking sounds. A loud popping sound was heard in the middle of the night on a 36th floor. It's easy to guess that it was the broken window found in a corner unit impling deeper structural issues.
Eventually, the lawsuits were consolidated and a settlement was issued to fix the problem. The solution? Engineers set down a $100 million dollar plan to drill into bedrock on the north and west sides of the tower. The plan was to install over 50 new piles that would reach up to 70 meters down to the bedrock, stabilizing the towers. Recent construction has had to be slowed or stopped because of construction related issues. Hopefully this construction will be completed eventually and it'll provide stability for some time. As part of our monitoring process, it was observed that the tower had sunk additionally and the tilt had increased. The problem is currently being investigated before work resumes.

DUBAI CREEK TOWER THE WORLDS TALLEST TOWER
👉👉 https://bit.ly/31R197c 👈👈
Dubai Creek Tower
The United Arab Emirates latest venture - the Dubai Creek Tower - was set to become the tallest man-made structure in the world. The tower was most likely built as a response to Saudi Arabia's Jeddah Tower. The Jeddah Tower, which would be at least 1000 meters high,
The Jeddah Tower construction has given the developers in Dubai an opportunity to outshine their rivals even further by planning to build the tallest tower in the world, again. The Burj Khalifa is currently the tallest building with a height of 828 meters, so they originally planned for something even higher at around 1,400 meters to try and compete with Jeddah Tower. The official height of the tower was never revealed, probably because they don’t want to give any clues to the competition.
With a bird's eye view of the city and 10 viewing platforms, Dubai Creek Tower would have been the tallest building in the world. However, construction was soon stopped after its foundation was completed.
Construction of the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia stopped around the same time that work on Dubai Creek Tower halted. It doesn't seem very coincidental that once the developers of Dubai Creek Tower were no longer threatened by their competition, they decided to stop working on it too. Emaar Properties, the owner of the project, claims that the COVID-19 pandemic is stopping their project from going 100% through, but they remain hopeful it will be completed by 2022. Even so, no visible progress has been made since the towers stop in 2018.
But the failure of Jeddah Tower may not be the only reason Dubai Creek Tower can fail. No one has ever created a building this high before. Steel cables reaching out to the top of the tower would need to stretch for over a kilometer.
This cable net might be too big to work with at the moment and It might not be possible for us to reach this height with the materials and technologies we have right now.
Other than complex engineering issues, it is still unclear whether or not the tower could ever compete with Jeddah Tower to become the tallest building in the world. There has been confusion lately on what exactly qualifies as a skyscraper. The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat says that at least 50% of the tower needs to be habitable in order to qualify as a skyscraper, but Dubai Creek Tower misses this target by 20%.

The Biggest At Once Chinese Real Estate Demolition
👉👉 https://bit.ly/31R197c 👈👈
Liyang Star City
Construction of the second phase of Liyang Star City began in 2011 with 19 high-rise buildings on four big sites. it was supposed to be residential and office spaces.
Just a year after construction began, the project changed hands and then finally completed the first 4 high-rises. However, construction on the remaining 15 high-rise buildings was halted in 2013 due to financial concerns.
Over the years, they had problems with flooding in their basements, leading to foundation damage that was difficult to fix. In December 2020, another company bought the property for around $150 million and started a renovation project. When they discovered that the 8-year-old buildings no longer met today's real estate standards, they were torn down. The demolition crew carried out four tons of explosives.
To ensure the safety of the public, regulations were put in place to make this demolition project as safe as possible. Finally, in August 2021, they were demolished following years of planning and construction. There was reportedly no significant seismic activity after each building collapsed into dust within 45 seconds. It was one of the biggest, at once, demolitions in chinas history.

The Istanbul Canal, Turkey's Economic Hope Or Doom?
Istanbul Canal
Turkey’s capital, Istanbul, started construction of the istanbul canal project in 2021. It's going to be a 50km canal that connects the Black Sea with the Marmara Sea. that's shorter than the 82 kilometer Panama Canal. But the Panama Canal is actually solving a problem and offering a shorter route, between the atlantic and the pacific ocean. The Istanbul Canal, on the other hand, would not offer the same benefits as that of the Panama canal. Because of the fact that the bosphorus strait already exists.
So why is the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan so interested in building this new canal? The official answer is to increase shipping capacity in the region and reduce waiting times for ships. The president has stated that the number of ships at sea will be increasing significantly in the next few decades, rising from 38,000 ships today to 50,000. These changes represent a major reversal following the current trend, where the number of ships is declining by an average of 5% over time. Despite that the canal would be practical for ships, most people are against it due to its negative impacts on both people in Turkey and around the world. There are also concerns with Erdogan's motivation.
Next to the planned Istanbul canal is the already existing Bosphorus Canal, which does not bring any revenue to Turkey due to a treaty dating back to 1936. Ships are allowed passage through the Bosphorus canal and do not need to pay anything for it. This is unfortunate for Turkey because more ships pass through the Bosphorus each year than both the Suez and Panama canals combined. In addition, it's the only access to the Black Sea from Europe, and Russia's only way of entering into Mediterranean waters. Proposed by President Erdogan, the canal can possibily turn things around for Turkey and the economy. It's going to be a big project with huge benefits for society, leading to better living conditions and more jobs.
Although Erdogan is excited about the financial benefits that this project will generate. However, residents of Turkey are not as supportive because they do not think it will be an environmentally friendly project. One of the most important aspects of this plan is that it will impact 40% Istanbul’s water supply and could have severe consequences on the groundwater levels.
The construction of this canal would displace tens of thousands of Istanbul citizens, destroy hundreds of thousands of trees and turn part of the city into an island.
And if building a 50-kilometer long canal was not enough, Turkey’s President Erdogan also wants to include a high-speed railway into the megaproject. While the exact price is not known, estimates have put the cost between $50 and $65 billion dollars.
Based on the environmental damage and costs of such a large project, it seems unlikely that the Istanbul Canal project will proceed. There are also significant international protests against it.

Saudia Arabias Most Ambitious Project, The Line NEOM
👉👉 https://bit.ly/31R197c 👈👈
The Line, a New urban development
Many projects around the world share the same goal: building a sustainable and eco-friendly city. One example is the Songdo International Business District in South Korea, Forest City in Malaysia, or the New Administrative Capital in Egypt. Although some of the smart cities have been successfully implemented, most of them have failed to date and are maybe too ambitious. Recently, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia announced a whole new smart city called “The Line”.
Unlike most cities that are aligned along streets, Greenland's city is built in a single line running 170 kilometers into the country. Additionally, it uses renewable energy in order to completely eliminates gasoline cars. The concept manages to meld the need for public space and the need for transport as well as accommodating the needs of both locals and tourists. It is planned that members of the public will be able to live alongside commuters on a surface level, whilst two underground levels provide railway transportation, along with a high speed train that can travel across 170 kilometers. The high-speed line is one of the many doubts people have about executing such a mega-project. When you take into account the need to move from any point to another in 20 minutes, the task seems almost impossible. Even if you sped through your journey and made zero stops, just to make it in time. The average speed of the train would need to be 510 kilometers per hour just to reach it’s destination in time. For reference, Chinas $35 billion dollars bullet train from Beijing to Shanghai is one of the fastest commercial trains we know of and has an average speed of 380 km/h. But the train that would go beneath The Line would have to be much faster than this. In addition, many people already live on the planned site of the line and they will surely protest their removal. Relocating these people against their will is a very controversial endeavour and would most likely have a hugely negative impact on The Line. If this mega-project also intended to attract international customers, there's a chance it would quickly lose credibility or be seen in a negative light if the relocation of residents were required for this project to come into fruition. The current economic climate makes funding the project near impossible. Specifically, Saudi Arabia would have to come up with $500 billion which is just unrealistic. For instance, $500 billion is more than the GDP of Greece, Croatia, and New Zealand combined! This figure isn’t just pocket change for Saudi Arabia either, they have a GDP of $800 billion. In conclusion, such a high price is probably too expensive even for a country as wealthy as Saudi Arabia.

Georgia’s New Nuclear Reactors (Plant Vogtle – Units 3 & 4)
Estimated Cost: $30 Billion.
Location: Waynesboro, Georgia (United States).
Plant Vogtle located in Waynesboro, Georgia will become the largest nuclear power plant in the United States thanks to its 2 new reactors. The Georgia power station is currently building two new nuclear reactors, the first to be built in America for over three decades. The units are AP1000 designs and will produce gross 2500 Mega Watts of electricity when completed.
Vogtle 3 and 4 is currently the largest construction project (jobs-producer) in Georgia. With more than 7,000 workers on site, and more than 800 permanent jobs available once the units begin operating, it will be a major driver of economic growth for our state. The project will have a significant economic development impact for the region.
The uses of nuclear power are becoming more important with a growing population and an increase in technological development as the world consumes power at unprecedented rates. Nuclear power is a zero-emission energy source, it doesn't take up much space to build, and generates minimal waste. Countries are shifting to cleaner energy sources so this may align with their needs. People should prepare for more nuclear power plants in the future, like Plant Vogtle.
When the two new units at Plant Vogtle are operational, they will provide enough energy to power over 500,000 homes and businesses in this region. With their combined gross capacity of 1250 Mega Watts of electricity.
Vogtle Unit 3 nuclear fuel loading was completed on October 14, 2022 and testing began shortly after.

Ciudad Real Central Airport, Spain.
Ciudad Real Central Airport, Spain
Spain is one of the best travel destinations in Europe and that was a key consideration when they came up with Ciudad Real Central Airport. The airport was supposed to be the next great travel hub.
This new airport would have been an alternative to the heavily overcrowded main airport in Madrid and it has one of the top five longest runways in Europe. It would have been able to serve 2 million passengers a year.
This is a relatively low number compared to Madrid's 70 million passenger capacity.
However, expansion plans were already in motion to boost the capacity up to 10 million annually. When it finally became operational in 2009, the 1.3 billion dollar expense might have seemed justified.
The company behind this project filed for bankruptcy in 2012.
The project was initially labeled the Central Airport site but when it was located 200 km away from Madrid, people started to have some problems with its location.
This was an issue because most of the passengers avoided traveling for hours to get to the remote location. Most big airlines preferred running flight operations from the capital.
Without major airlines to attract any more passengers, the airport accumulated a debt of 300 million dollars by 2012. The airport even became so famous as an abandoned location that people started visiting it.
After multiple unsuccessful auctions that failed to meet the modest price of $12,000, it seemed that Ciudad Real Airport would finally be sold in 2019. However, as businesses struggled during the Covid-19 outbreak and profits dwindled, a potential buyer emerged.
With little hope of passengers returning, the new owners reinvented the airport as a
home for grounded planes given its dry climate, long runway, and spaciousness.
By August 2020, there were 65 airplanes parked on the airport with expansions underway to
provide a storage facility for over 300 aircraft.
This new storage approach gave the airport a much-needed business opportunity.
However, all the stored planes will eventually be gone once the pandemic is finally over
and the return of normal flight operations remains elusive.
This billion-dollar megaproject remains effectively useless, for passengers around the world.

INTERSTATE H-3 THE ALMOST UNUSED HIGHWAY
Interstate H-3, Hawaii
We’ll start with a breathtakingly scenic highway in the Aloha state – Hawaii.
The interstate is said to be one of the most stunning highways in the world with its winding mountain cliffside route.
The original intention for the highway was to connect the Pearl Harbor Naval Base on one side of the island with the Marine Corps Air Station on the other.
When the construction was announced, it sparked outrage from environmental groups and native Hawaiians alike. They were concerned about how much destruction would be done to the area.
Clearances to the surrounding valleys delayed the project for over 20 years. With environmental hurdles removed from Congress, construction can finally take place. Starting the construction in 1989.
After 37 years, the highway was finally opened in 1997. This road is often seen as an engineering marvel because of the difficult terrain it goes through and the cutting-edge techniques used to build it.
The highway also goes over many viaducts to protect the areas below it. These may be high-tech or just standard bridges, but they all have an important function for this project. Rocketing cost of the project was a result of decades of delays, route changes and newer but more expensive technologies that came into play. This meant that it would be completed five times over the original estimated budget.
The total cost of the construction was 1.3 billion – which is about 50 million for a kilometer – the most expensive cost per kilometer in the world.
Critics of the plan believe it's a "road to nowhere" because the defense considerations of the 60s are no longer relevant and there's no direct route to downtown Honolulu. There's also the case of Native Hawaiians, a majority of whom refuse to use this highway still to this day.
Despite being an achievement, some still consider it to be "cursed" as many cultural sites were destroyed during its completion. While many see the project as a great accomplishment, others feel that the highway destroyed their way of life.

The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam Will Be The Biggest Dam in Africa.
DON'T CLICK: https://bit.ly/31R197c
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam
Estimated Cost: $5 Billion
Height 145 meters (476 feet)
Length1780 meters (5,840 feet)
Elevation at crest 655 meters (2,149 feet)
Dam volume10200000 cubic metre (13,300,000 cubic yards)
Location: Bameza (Ethiopia)
The primary purpose of the dam is to produce electricity in order to fix Ethiopia's acute energy shortage and to export power to bordering countries. This amazing project will solidify Sudan as the largest hydroelectric power plant in Africa and among the top 20 globally, paving the way for sustained economic growth.
The Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (aka. Millenium Dam or Hidase Dam) is a gravity dam utilizing the strength of the Blue Nile River in Ethiopia. The dam itself has been under construction since 2011 and many would argue it's finished. At least kind of.
In February of 2022, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam produced power for the first time – delivering electricity to the power grid at a rate of 375MW. A second turbine of the same capacity was added to the station in August 2022. The dam is currently not at the maximum capacity due to a filling period. It's expected that it'll be full in about 6-7 years, which should help provide much more electricity to the surrounding area when it does.
We're not ready to call construction complete until the reservoir is filled and we can see how much power it produces. There's a range of maintenance that needs to be completed as the reservoir is filling up, and construction teams will be on standby to service the area as it takes on the water volume of 74 km3. Once full capacity is reached, it would take the facility from 375MW in February measurement to 5.15 gigawatts.
There is some uncertainty about the full impact the dam will have on downstream countries. Some fear it will reduce water availability, while others fear its effect on natural water sources. Experts agree that there are three important factors to consider when looking at the impact the reservoir filling phase has on scale and how it's done - the initial elevation of the Aswan High Dam, rainfall and what kind of agreement is reached.
The Egyptian President issued a warning to Ethiopia, saying 'let's not reach the point where you touch a drop of Egypt’s water.' Joe Biden met with Abdel Fattah el-Sisi during his meeting in the Middle East and reaffirmed that America stands by Egypt's "water security" and wants to help find a diplomatic solution that will end the brewing conflict.

Merdeka 118 The Second Tallest Tower in the World
DON'T CLICK: https://bit.ly/31R197c
Merdeka 118
Costing: 1.7 billion dollars
Located in: Kuala Lumpur (Mayalsia)
The construction on this 679-meter-tall skyscraper became the world's second tallest tower. The building is the most recognisable symbol of Malaysian independence and it's style is cool. Merdeka means “independence,” Furthermore, it's significant to the people of Malaysia as they gained their independence from Britain in 1957.
The architecture of the building is specially designed to resemble first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman’s stature as he proclaimed the country’s independence. In this picture, take note of the posture of Prime Minister Rahman and the shape of the current Merdeka skyscraper. With inspiring architecture and state-of-the-art engineering, these places are nothing short of amazing.
The Merdeka 118 is only behind the Burj Khalifa in claiming to be the tallest building in the world. Naturally, with 118 floors included in its name and implies how high it truly is.
