In this Michigan Steelhead fishing video I am doing some late winter early spring steelhead fishing. I was extra super busy getting ready for the ultimate. fishing show and didnt get a lot of opertunities to go steelhead fishing but I did manage to get one here and there. Now all the loal rivers are flooded and un fishable so chances of getting into some spring steelhead are not looking good for the remainder of the season. I hope to get into a few more though. Winter steelhead fishing Michigan rivers means its time to break out the jigs and beads and keep the presentations subtle because these fish are just hanging out lazily taking convenient snacks that float by while they wait to do the thing they came to do. When it comes to river fishing for steelhead you got to think like a fish and know what they are thinking but more importantly make as many casts as you can cause eventually you will present your bait to a fish that does not say no to a free snack! Steelhead beads just don't get turned down by steelhead. I have on multiple occasions used a double rig with a spawn bag being turned down in favor of a bead. A steelhead fishing bead is more subtle than the average spawn bag and I believe it more naturally replicates what they would find in the river. A single steelhead or salmon egg floating down river is a more likely situation than a cluster of overly scented eggs. Sometimes however after no luck in a spot with beads making a switch to spawn bags or jigs can seal the deal on a picky fish that had a different snack preference. I over time have grown to me more confident fishing a bead under a bobber for steelhead than any other technique. I catch a good amount of steelhead on spinners but I definitely catch way more steelhead float fishing. The nice thing about float fishing for steelhead is you can use a million different baits and lures all with the same setup and presentation. Steelhead jigs can be hot and Steelhead beads always work. I have caught steelhead float fishing minnows under a bobber. Run out of minnows and just switch to a night crawler or plastic worm. Steelhead Float fishing is not a lot different than fishing for crappie or bluegill in my opinion and I know people who float fish for walleye in the river. The thing steelhead, crappie and walleye have in common is that subtle presentations like float fishing work well for them all because grabbing an easy snack is not the same as getting a reaction strike from a spinner or crank bait. You got to bug me a bit to get a reaction but I always want a snack even when I am not actively feeding... So remember when you are river fishing for steelhead in winter your goal is to use the subtle presentation of float fishing to gently deliver a subtle but tasty snack right to the steelhead wherever they are... In my opinion the most efficient way to deliver a subtle snack is with a long float rod and a centerpin or baitcaster reel. In this Michigan steelhead fishing video I am on a winter steelhead fishing quest. The quest is to catch some winter steelhead and with any luck catch them on some of the jigs I tied! Winter steelhead fishing Michigan rivers means its time to break out the jigs and beads and keep the presentations subtle because these fish are just hanging out lazily taking convenient snacks that float by while they wait to do the thing they came to do. When it comes to river fishing for steelhead you got to think like a fish and know what they are thinking but more importantly make as many casts as you can cause eventually you will present your bait to a fish that does not say no to a free snack! Steelhead beads just don't get turned down by steelhead. I have on multiple occasions used a double rig with a spawn bag being turned down in favor of a bead. A steelhead fishing bead is more subtle than the average spawn bag and I believe it more naturally replicates what they would find in the river. A single steelhead or salmon egg floating down river is a more likely situation than a cluster of overly scented eggs. Sometimes however after no luck in a spot with beads making a switch to spawn bags or jigs can seal the deal on a picky fish that had a different snack preference. I over time have grown to me more confident fishing a bead under a bobber for steelhead than any other technique. I catch a good amount of steelhead on spinners but I definitely catch way more steelhead float fishing. The nice thing about float fishing for steelhead is you can use a million different baits and lures all with the same setup and presentation. Steelhead jigs can be hot and Steelhead beads always work. I have caught steelhead float fishing minnows under a bobber. Run out of minnows and just switch to a night crawler or plastic worm. Steelhead Float fishing is not a lot different than fishing for crappie or bluegill in my opinion and I know people who float fish for walleye in the river. The thing steelhead, crappie and walleye have in common is that subtle presentations like float fishing work well for them all because grabbing an easy snack is not the same as getting a reaction strike from a spinner or crank bait. You got to bug me a bit to get a reaction but I always want a snack even when I am not actively feeding... So remember when you are river fishing for steelhead in winter your goal is to use the subtle presentation of float fishing to gently deliver a subtle but tasty snack right to the steelhead wherever they are... In my opinion the most efficient way to deliver a subtle snack is with a long float rod and a centerpin or baitcaster reel. In this Michigan fishing video I had an idea to go centerpin float fishing for bass with jigs. I have been tying up jigs lately and making some unique designs so I wanted to test a few out on some winter smallmouth. The quest for the best pike lure never ends but here are some of my favorite pike fishing lures. Fishing for Northern pike is a blast. What is the best lure for pike? Pike are more aggressive and bigger than bass with makes them a lot of fun to fight on a rod and reel. I Fish for Northern Pike in many Michigan rivers and lakes. I consider myself a reasonably accomplished Northern Pike angler. I have landed a few as big as 38 inches but am still searching for that 40+ inch Northern Pike. Most of my Pike fishing is done in 2-8 foot of water on local rivers. Pike are big aggressive fish that attack most lures that mimic natural forage or just look like an invader in their territory. They get aggressive and will hit just about anything but these are the lures that drive them crazy and consistently catch me big Northern Pike. There is no definitive answer to the question of what is the best lure for pike because of the endless variables such as time of year, water clarity, barometric pressure, depth, flow, forage ect... In this video we are fishing The Betsie River in Northern Michigan. Salmon fishing Michigan rivers is plenty of fun and this year we brought some fiends with the hopes of getting them hooked up on some Betsie River King Salmon! Salmon fishing the Betsie River is so much fun! I love the river and It is reasonably easy to navigate! There are lots of great places to try salmon fishing in Northern Michigan and we fished a few different rivers in northern michigan while we were at salmon camp but I couldn't drag the guys off The Betsie River. Once they saw it they didn't want to leave lol. Homestead Dam is beautiful despite large crowds of salmon fishing enthusiasts clogging its banks every fall. Its no secret that fisherman from around the world travel to fish the betsie river at homestead dam. My experience on the Betsie river is that 9 out of 10 fisherman are cool and I met a lot of good guys and girls fishing The Betsie River this year. I imagine it is similar to the Salmon River in New York in terms of fishing pressure but smaller and lacking epic big lake run browns lol That is why The Betsie river is a famous Michigan fishing destination. This year we came equipped with better fishing gear and more fishing knowledge and we landed more fish than last year despite less hookups. No complaints though as we all got to battle plenty of king salmon. The 2021 salmon run was not as strong as the year before but we didn't let that slow us down too much and we actualy landed several master angler king salmon on this trip and we cant wait to come back and enjoy the 2022 Michigan king salmon run. Salmon camp 2022 will certainly involve some Betsie river king salmon fishing. King salmon fishing in Michigan is something I look forward to every year but I am always so excited to move on to fishing for coho with hardware and float fishing for fall steelhead as soon as the opertunity arises but it is fun to get your rod bent by a big michigan king salmon especialy if you hook into a fresh chrome king salmon. The Savage Gear 3D Bat is a topwater lure that resembles a bat and Ill spoil the video and tell you the 3D Bat from Savage Gear works great for bass. I literally caught a bass on my 3rd cast ever with the top water bat! Catching bass with topwater lures is a lot of fun because you get to see the fish explode on the lure. Even when they miss it is super fun to see a fish come up and swipe at your topwater lure! Historically I have not done a lot of topwater bass fishing. I am familiar with the jitter bug and the whopper plopper but my first impression of the Savage Gear 3D Topwater Bat was that it was a silly gimmick to sell lures but it became apparent right away that the Topwater Bat catches fish. If you are into crazy bass lures or weird fishing lures challenge videos you have probably seen the Savage Gear 3D Bat before and know that it is one of those weird fishing lures that work. It really is one of the more crazy topwater lures I have seen. All bass fisherman know topwater bass fishing blowups are a lot of fun and topwater bass fishing with a baitcaster seems to be the norm among bass anglers and it just so happens I got a new baitcaster set up. So far I realy like the Shamino Clarus and the Diawa capercorn reel that I was gifted and it works realy well for top water fishing! Altough I am new to Catching Bass With Topwater Lures I am a beliver in the Savage Gear 3D Bat. The Topwater Bat has crazy good action that gets fish riled right up!
