The Relationship Between the Finnish and the Hungarian Languages
Nykysuomessa suomalais-ugrilaiseen kantakieleen kuuluvia sanoja on n. 300.
(Lehikoinen 1994: 238.)
veri – vér, pää – fej, me – mi, alla – alatt) (Csepregi 1991: 16–17).
In modern 🇫🇮, there are about 300 words belonging to the Uralic Proto-language.
(Lehikoinen 1994: 238.)
In 🇭🇺 there are about 700 words that belong to both Finno-Ugric and Uralic Proto-language.

🇫🇮 Taruja Pohjolan Jumalista 🇫🇮 Tales of the Nordic Gods
Animaatiosarja, Ateljé Seppo Putkinen 1989-91
🇸🇪 Gudar, trollkarlar och vidunder SVT:n suoratoistopalvelussa
Taruja Pohjolan jumalista (ruots.

Fehérlófia - Son of the White Mare - 1981
In this dreamlike Hungarian folk myth, a horse goddess gives birth to three powerful brothers who set out into the Underworld to save three princesses from three evil dragons and reclaim their ancestors' lost kingdom.
Director
Marcell Jankovics
Writers
László György Marcell Jankovics
The movie is a pastiche of many similar Hungarian and Eurasian folk tales and owes much to the myths of ancient Magyars, Scythians and Avarians. According to the Hungarian Ethnographic Lexicon, there are at least 50 different forms of this story, but the film was mostly based on "Fehérlófia" (as penned by poet László Arany) and "Fanyüvö, Vasgyúró, Hegyhengergetö" (by Gyula Illyés). One common criticism against the film is that the story, characters and its perceived messages are different from Arany's version of Fehérlófia. Director Marcell Jankovics confirmed that his aim wasn't to make a faithful adaptation of any single fable, but to create his own version. Most of the differences between the versions are detailed in the movie's FAQ section, but here are some notable ones:
In Arany's version, Fehérlófia (Son of the White Mare) and Fanyüvö (Treeshaker or Treetearer) are separate characters, and Fehérlófia kills all three of his servants, including the weak Fanyüvö at the end for their betrayal. In Illyés's version, Fanyüvö is the powerful main hero who only has two companions whom he spares at the end, but he has human parents. The film meshes these two into one and even combines their names: Fanyüvö Fehérlófia. Jankovics stated he had based the characters more on the story's second version because he believed viewers would be bored if each task had to be repeated four rather than three times.
Other differences include expanding on the backstory of the world, its rulers, the princesses and the dragons, and combining the fable with the myth of the World Tree. In most other versions of the tale, none of these have any background. The film's first 14 or so minutes are not part of the stories, this scene was a unique addition.
In the film, Fehérlófia's parents are deities, the Rain King and the Snow Queen, and the Hétszünyö Kapanyányimonyók (Seven-Hearted Lobahobgoblin) is the King in disguise. The folk tales contain no such connotations; the Goblin is a villain, and the King is a human unrelated to the main characters.
Depending on the version, the hero's mother is either a human woman or a horse without an explicit backstory, though sometimes, she's a cow or a sheep.
Certain scenes or quotes were also taken from other versions of the tale. In specific, the scene of Vasgyúró (alternatively named Ironkneader, Ironrubber or Irontemperer in English) forging a sword for Fanyüvö adapts the creation scene of Vasgyúró's ax that was left out from the film.

Slaavilaisia lainasanoja suomen kielessä / Kyrillisten kirjainten salaisuus
Kyrillisten kirjainten salaisuus
Emeritusprofessori Arto Mustajoki Pasi Heikuran haastateltavana. Heli Keinonen: Muamoni minuo čakkai (Äitini minua moitti) w/subs
Joensuulaistytön karjalankieliset kansanlaulut ihastuttivat Suomea vuonna 1967. Savolaisen folkin edustaja Esa Pakarinen kutsui hänet vieraaksi ohjelmaansa Esan studio.
Heli Keinonen (s. 1943) aloitti julkiset esiintymisensä opiskeluaikanaan Turussa. Vuoden 1966 lopulla ilmestyi hänen menestyksekäs ensisinglensä Ajettih da tsiganaiset/Ruskie neitsyt, valgie neitsyt.
Kansanlaulu Muamoni minuo tshakkai (Äitini minua moitti) kertoo tytöstä, joka ikävöi sodassa kuollutta sulhoaan. Jopa itäsuomalaisia murteita jokseenkin hyvin tunteva Esa Pakarinen on ymmällään karjalankielen kanssa.
Muamoni minuo čakkai,
miks miul on tiettoni.
Ičehäi mie sen tiijän,
hos kedäi suvaičen.
Ičehäi mie sen tiijän,
hos kedäi suvaičen.
Suvaičen tiettuo mieles,

Eläs nagra, tiettoni,

Eläs nagra, tiettoni,

Lendäzin, suazin tiediä,

Lendäzin, suazin tiediä,

My mother judges me,
Why do I have my dear.
I know it myself,
I know who I love.
I know it myself,
I know who I love.
I love my dear in my mind,
I love him only.
Don't you laugh my dear,
Don't you laugh my love.
Don't you laugh my dear,
Don't you laugh my love.
God guides you

to the misfortunate young wife.
My love was killed in the war,
he's laying on an open field.
Not being healed at the reserve,
he only thought of me.
Not being healed at the reserve,
he only thought of me.
Wishing I had the wings of a bird,
I would fly to my dear.
I'd fly and find out,

The Corpus of Old Dutch is the collection of all texts in Old Dutch that served as source material for the Dictionary of Old Dutch (ONW). The texts originate from the period between 475 and 1200.
Old Dutch is the collective term for several related dialects that – just like Old English, Old Frisian, Old Saxon, and Old High German – developed out of West Germanic around the beginning of the fifth century. It was spoken in an area that does not entirely correspond with the current Dutch-speaking region.
Differentiating between Old Dutch, Old Saxon, and Old Frisian is sometimes difficult.

George Carlin’s rant on time
George Carlin’s rant on time is still one of the greatest comedic bits of all time
George Carlin was more than the comedian that spliced seven dirty words into his rants. He was a truly revolutionary comic, and this stand-up segment on time shows just why.
This set boils down to pretty much one thing: don’t ask George Carlin what time it is, because all concepts of time are made up and stupid.
“Chinese are way up there in the five and six thousands, Hebrew calendar is up in the five and six thousands. We’re up at about 1977. Well shit, these ain’t a couple of weeks these people are off. These are thousands of goddamn years that are missing, man!”
After knocking time as a poorly made human construct, Carlin dives into all the cute little phrases that we use to describe time apart from hours and minutes. Sooner or later. Now and then. Once in a while. From time to time. A little while!
Of course, not all of them are short figures of time. Some of them are vast, incalculable amounts of time.
“I’m going to be standing here until kingdom come!”
“Well shit, I don’t have that on my watch!”
Almost 40 years later, this segment holds up incredibly well, and it is a testament to Carlin taking a direction on philosophical topics that can transcend generations.

Carl Jung: Spy #488
Mary Bancroft, to provide psychological profiles of Hitler and the German psyche.
Dulles met with him on several occasions; Eisenhower read his report before the final invasion of Germany.
It is quite difficult to track down this information; some of it can be found in the furnished links at the bottom of the post. It was Deidre Barr, in Jung, a Biography, who first reported this information.
In Jung: A Biography,. author Deirde Bair tells us that Jung was “Agent 488″. He secretly worked for the Office of Strategic Services, which was the predecessor to the CIA. His first contact with the OSS was through his patient Mary Bancroft. She worked for Allan Dulles who was the OSS chief in Switzerland and later became the first Director of the CIA. In 1941, during World War II, Jung’s job was to analyze the psychology of leaders. In return Jung became privy to top-secret Allied intelligence. In 1945, General Dwight Eisenhower read Jung’s ideas for persuading the German public to accept defeat. Allan Dulles relied on Jung’s psycholgical advice, including Jung’s prediction that Hitler would kill himself. Later, Dulles said that “nobody will probably ever know how much Professor Jung contributed to the Allied cause during the war… [and that his work needed to remain] highly classified for the indefinite future.”
On one of these trips, Hyde traveled from Lyon to just inside the Swiss border where he was met by car by Mary Bancroft. Mary got out of the car; kissed Henri on both cheeks, and drove off in another car with a man. Hyde drove Mary’s car to the Geneva Airport, picked up Paul Mellon (O.S.S.-MO) who had just flown in from England. Hyde drove Mellon to a beautiful old hotel overlooking Lausanne where Jung was waiting for him upstairs in a hotel room. Mellon’s mission was to hear Jung’s psychoanalysis of Hitler’s mind and the German collective unconscious. Hyde waited for Mellon in the hotel lobby, then drove Mellon back after his meeting with Jung. Paul and Mary Mellon had been patients of Jung’s since 1938. Mellon wanted to see Jung again during the war; family therapy revisited. Paul and Mary, husband-wife patients of Jung, had raved to their brother-in-law OSS Station Chief London, David Bruce, who had married Paul’s sister Aisle, about Jungian psychoanalysis.

The Myth of NarchaixSuS (@Archaix138 🍇ist NPD?)
The Myth of Narcissus
Though there are several versions of the myth, all of them end with Narcissus committing suicide. Let us take the classic version of it as used by the Roman poet, Ovid. In his magnum opus Metamorphoses, he narrates the story of a youth and how he fell in love with his own reflection.
As the version goes, Echo, a talkative mountain nymph, was cursed by Hera, Zeus’s wife, for distracting her and letting Zeus getaway. Due to the curse, Echo could not speak unless someone spoke to her. Even then, she could repeat only the last word of what that person had said. One day, she saw Narcissus and fell in love with him. She followed him through the mountains. When angry Narcissus demanded to know who she was, she revealed her identity to him. However, he rejected her advances. Heartbroken, she vanished into the mountains, following which only her voice was left behind.
The goddess of revenge Nemesis, Aphrodite in some versions, and the goddess of love decided to punish Narcissus. She lured him to a large water body in which he could see his reflection. When Narcissus saw his reflection, he fell in love with it without realizing it is his own reflection. He sat there for hours and hours staring at it. He could not consummate his love and died in frustration.
Even in today’s times, there exist people who truly love themselves. They may not sit staring at their reflection in the mirror (sometimes they do!), but their overall behavior may indicate that they put themselves before others. Some are easy to spot; with their attention-seeking, self-revolving, and decisive personality, they stand out. However, some keep their self-loving traits well hidden. These quivering, shy, and self-doubting creatures put self before others as well.
American psychiatrist James F. Masterson proposed two types of pathological narcissism, i.e., exhibitionist and closet. They are also referred to as overt and covert narcissism. The word ‘overt’ means something that is easily seen, something that is not hidden. On the other hand, the word ‘covert’ means something that is not easy to notice, something that’s secret or hidden. The names itself suggest the personalities that overt and covert narcissists have. Let us find out more about them.

In 391 AD, Alexandria is part of the Roman Empire, and Greek philosopher Hypatia [Rachel Weisz] is a teacher at the Platonic school, where future leaders are educated. Hypatia is the daughter of Theon, the director of the Musaeum of Alexandria.
Theon of Alexandria [Michael Lonsdale]
It is known that Theon edited the Elements of Euclid. He may also have edited some other works by Euclid and Ptolemy, although here the evidence is less certain. The editions ascribed to Theon are:
Euclid's Elements. Theon's edition of the Elements was the only known version until Francois Peyrard discovered an older copy of the Elements in the Vatican Library in 1808. Comparison of the two versions show that Theon's edition attempts to remove difficulties that might be felt by learners in studying the text. Hence he amplified Euclid's text whenever he thought that an argument was too brief; attempted to standardise the way that Euclid wrote; and he corrected mistakes in the text, although occasionally he introduced his own errors. Thomas Little Heath notes on Theon's edits include, "remarkably close approximations (stated in sexagesimal fractions)".
Ptolemy's Handy Tables. A collection of astronomical tables originally compiled by Ptolemy. It has often been claimed in modern times that Theon edited this text. However, none of the surviving manuscripts mention Theon, and the evidence suggests that the surviving tables must be very similar to the tables Ptolemy provided. It has, however, been thought possible that his daughter Hypatia edited (or verified) the Handy Tables, since the Suda refers to her work on the "Astronomical Canon".
Euclid's Optics. Euclid's work on optics survives in two versions, and it has been argued that one version may be an edition by Theon. Commentary on the Data of Euclid. This work is written at a relatively advanced level as Theon tends to shorten Euclid's proofs rather than amplify them.
Commentary on the Optics of Euclid. This elementary-level work is believed to consist of lecture notes compiled by a student of Theon

Top Gear Specials Ranked Worst To Best
@yutehube4468 ranking of all Top Gear specials, from worst to best.
Specials were originally episodes of the original format of Top Gear that focused on one specific motoring topic, such as the 100th anniversary of the land speed record, or car maintenance. Following the show's reboot in 2002, specials became episodes where the presenters went on a road trip through a foreign country and examined its motoring culture.
In 2015, the BBC refused to renew the contract of Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson after he punched a producer during filming, causing the departures of Clarkson's fellow presenters James May and Richard Hammond. Clarkson, Hammond and May's new show, The Grand Tour, has continued making specials on Amazon Prime. New Top Gear presenters Chris Harris, Andrew Flintoff and Paddy McGuinness have continued creating specials for Top Gear.
As of 2022, the original Top Gear had 23 specials, while the rebooted Top Gear has 12. The Grand Tour has 10.
