Accepting help is hard, but the grief and loss journey is much harder alone. We are not strong independently, but collectively when we allow ourselves to be taken care of by those around us.

Shock is a real state and we are not our best selves in shock. We are more focused on understanding what is happeneing and deciding next steps than we are connecting and getting the support we need. Shock is not very often acknowledged in the moments we have to grieve and we experience it in the little changes as well as the big changes.

How do we start to grieve? Grief is like starting a fire- the flame needs oxygen to begin to burn and build. Unfortunately our brains do not like us to feel negativity, so instead of letting grief ignite, our brain allows busyness to crowd the flame of grief. If left unnoticed, that grief, much like the unattended flame, can turn into a wildfire, consuming everything in its path. If we allow our grief space, we can save ourselves years of damage control and repair.

Today we are going to talk about things that could be sources for grief. There is a list of what I discussed at the end of the video if you want to go through it and see what speaks to you. Go forth and grieve well.

I am going to be starting a little series called "The Grieving Helper" where we are spending some time looking at grief in a more meaningful way. I am hoping that through this, you will be able to look at grief a little differently and allow yourself to really go through the process of grief more easily in your life.

You are Valuable in your Grief We often do not do a good job of labeling grief. We use the word with death, but we grief the things we lose and loved. Those things we grieve can be dreams, jobs, friends, houses, lifestyle, or even priorities. Transitions can be challenging. As you are watching this video, think about how you have talked to yourself during a time of changes, transition, and loss. I bet a lot of us were not very kind to ourselves during this time. Remember even good changes can cause us to grieve so lets be kinder to ourselves and others.
