THE THING 2011 - The Prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing from 1982, using mostly newer CGI FX. In 1982, at a Norwegian Antarctica research site, the discovery of an alien craft leads to the events that precede those of the Carpenter film. The alien is able to take over the bodies of several researchers before discovery. Also a box office flop as was the 1982 film, and also now considered better than initial reviewers claimed, it's a pretty decent pre-story. FULL MOVIE in HD & Widescreen

THE DAY OF THE TRIFFIDS 2009 - The Complete 2-part TV Miniseries remake of the 1962 classic, as broadcast on the BBC network. An invasion of carnivorous alien plant-creatures called Triffids causes most of the world to be blinded. With the dangerous man-eating Triffids roaming the land, it falls upon a band of scattered survivors to fight the plant invasion and the chaos of civilization's collapse. THE QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT 2005 - BBC's live remake of the original TV broadcast of 1953, which itself was made into a theatrical film in 1955. They used the Nigel Kneale TV script from 1953. Professor Bernard Quatermass' manned rocket ship returns to Earth but two of the astronauts are missing and the survivor is unable to communicate and is physically changing. KING KONG LIVES 1986 The sequel to the 1976 remake of King Kong from the Di Laurentiis Company. Kong falls from the twin towers and is kept alive for 10 years in a coma. His heart is failing, so it's replaced with an artificial one, but he needs a blood transfusion. Another gigantic ape is found, a female who provides the need. KING KONG 1976 The Remake Produced by Dino Di Laurentiis. Not great like the original but still pretty good. A Special FX Oscar Winner, but the film's FX are totally successful due to make-up artist Rick Baker (Planet of the Apes) playing Kong in a special suit he made, and then he got no film credits. TOOLBOX MURDERS 2004 - A historic Hollywood hotel turned into apartments is said to house a supernatural evil. It's an old legend that's taken on mythical proportions, but when renovations start a series of murders take place. The cause of the killings is something much more than a spiritual apparition. Tobe Hooper had several hits & misses prior to tackling this, and generally got favorable reviews for this Toolbox Murders remake. It's almost a revisioning of a 1970s Italian Giallo with modern gore. LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE 3 - 1990 - The Iconic Horror Character Returns with his Crazy Cannibal Clan to terrorize once again. This was intended to be a remake of the original, but was later marketed as a sequel by the production company after they cut it for an R rating. This is the UNCUT version with all available cut scenes restored. A couple encounters a perverted gas station attendant who threatens them with a shotgun. They take a deserted path in Texas to seek help, but only meet up with a cannibalistic clan interested in helping themselves to fresh meat. My opinion of the film places it second in the series after the original due to the more intense Leatherface characterization as a brutal killer. A shy, obsessive comic book fan gets injected with an experimental serum derived from spiders, which gives him minor superpowers. But horrific changes occur, slowly transforming him into a grotesque human spider. A detective begins to investigate when dried up bodies start to pile up covered in cobwebs. Samantha is on a search mission for her husband, an air force pilot whose plane went down in a giant meteor crater within a secluded valley, which is an off limit area like Area 51. Brain chemistry research has produced a drug - Nirvana - that can wipe out addiction and mental illness by stimulating pleasure centers in the brain and flooding the brain with endorphins. PsyMax Labs is about to release Nirvana, but suddenly something goes badly wrong. Nirvana causes drastic genetic changes, switching on dormant genes to produce BRAINIAC, a creature whose need for the brain's pleasure chemicals causes it to begin eating human brains.
