High-fiber Diet Brings Significant Changes to Human Gut Microbiome
New Study Finds High-fiber Diet Brings Significant Changes to Human Gut Microbiome Guest. Dr. Katrine Whiteson Ph.D.
A short-term intervention in daily fiber consumption can significantly alter the gut microbiome and nutrient intake, according to a study led by the University of California, Irvine researchers. The research was recently published by the American Society for Microbiology.
Dietary fiber consists of resistant carbohydrates found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains. Fiber persists in our digestion system, and while not digestible by humans, our gut bacteria can metabolize fiber into short-chain fatty acids and other byproducts critical to human health.

Insulin Resistance, High Blood Pressure, Poor Sleep: All Solved With This
Insulin Resistance, High Blood Pressure, Poor Sleep: All Solved With This Guest: Wade Lightheart
Insulin resistance is the #1 killer of Americans. Heart disease, cancer, chronic kidney disease, and others are all downstream results of insulin resistance. The medical orthodoxy treats each of these downstream diseases with a separate pharmaceutical drug. Meanwhile there is one mineral that has been shown in a large body of scientific studies to have beneficial effects in correcting all of these and more. But your physician has never talked to you about it. Well we ill today.

New Study: Chaperone Protein Imbalance Promotes toxic Tau Buildup in The Aging Brain
New Study: Chaperone Protein Imbalance Promotes toxic Tau Buildup in The Aging Brain Guest: Dr. Laura Blair, Ph.D.
Chaperone protein imbalance can play a significant role in initiating toxic accumulation of tau in the aging brain - an early step in the development of Alzheimer's disease and related neurodegenerative disorders known as tauopathies, a new preclinical study by University of South Florida Health (USF Health) neuroscientists suggests.
In humans, misfolding of the protein tau leads to its toxic accumulation inside brain cells, the formation of these tau aggregates into hallmark neurofibrillary tangles, neuron death, and eventually symptoms of cognitive decline such as memory loss and diminished thinking skills.

The Pandemic Prevention No One Is Talking About
The Pandemic Prevention No One Is Talking About. Guest: Dr. Erika Schwartz, MD
The American government missed a huge opportunity in 2020 at the onset of this pandemic. They could have focused on the real problem at hand. The general poor health due to horrible lifestyle choices of our population. Instead of talking about "comorbidities" as some broad sweeping generalization, they could have called it what it really is. A population set on developing self-acquired illnesses by eating too much, sleeping and moving too little, and depending on pharmaceutical drugs to mitigate the symptoms. But how can government and medical orthodoxy tell you the truth when they've given messages for so long that its not your fault you're overweight or have type 2 diabetes?
Had they spoken truthfully they would have said the people at greatest risk of dying from this virus are the most obese and unhealthy. And these will be the ones who will die when the next pandemic hits. And there will be others. It's time for some honesty and tough talk. It's time to tell everyone THEY have to take responsibility for their own survival.

Beat Progressive Multiple Sclerosis Using Paleo Principles And Functional Medicine
The Wahls Protocol: How I Beat Progressive Multiple Sclerosis Using Paleo Principles And Functional Medicine
(Originally aired via SHR Website on 02 June 2014)
Dr. Terry Wahls was diagnosed with progressive multiple sclerosis. She went from being an active physician with a busy practice to being wheelchair-bound and accepting the reality that the end of her life would be punctuated by complete paralysis and dementia. That changed when she began to apply some ancestral eating habits. Within weeks her fatigue began to lift. In months she was riding her bike again. And by the end of the first year, she was jogging around the block with her children. Her book details the steps needed to reverse the disease.

Smart Dogs Eat Low Carb + Cattle Ranching That's Better For The Planet
Smart Dogs Eat Low Carb + Cattle Ranching That's Better For The Planet Guest: Patrick Wardell - Will Harris
The number 1 killer of labs and golden retrievers is cancer. Almost half of dogs over the age of 10 will develop cancer. Dogs get cancer at roughly the same rate as humans. Not surprising is it? Almost all commercially available dog foods are very high in carbohydrates. Many dogs develop diabetes today. No vet will tell you to put your dog on a low carb diet, but will introduce insulin injections.
PLUS
What if raising cattle could actually be better for the planet than growing fruits and veggies? Well there is a way to do it. And the quality and taste doesn't suffer. In fact it tastes better. And it's no more expensive than any other beef out there. Would you buy that beef over another? Lets help change the world together.

Tribalism Over Critical Thinking And Why You Should Be Worried + Change Is An Inside Job
Tribalism Over Critical Thinking And Why You Should Be Worried + Change Is An Inside Job Guest: Joel Greene - Jonathan Levitt
There are fact resistant humans out there today who do things and make choices that are not in their best interest. They do this to remain loyal to their tribe. It wouldn't matter if their choices only effected them, but they don't. They effect all of us. What can we do? PLUS truly changing your health requires monitoring and addressing numerous moving parts. None of the "epigenetic testing" companies have been able to successfully accomplish this. It takes more. Fixing Night Blindness
Fixing Night Blindness with Leslie Burke of Wise Choice Medicine
(Originally aired live via Facebook on 12 March 2020)
Nyctalopia is the term used for night blindness. A phenomenon described by the NIH as a normal part of the aging eye. It’s estimated that over 24 million adult Americans suffer from night blindness not caused by optic nerve or retinal issues. By the age of 75 over 50% of us will develop difficulty seeing in dimly lit environments, or being blinded when driving at night by oncoming headlights? Do you find yourself a bit panicked when driving at night because the oncoming headlights make you lose sight of the road? Or you find yourself using the flashlight app on your smartphone to read the menu at restaurants because, while the print isn’t necessarily hard to read, you feel it’s just too dim to see? This condition is attributed to changes in the crystalline lenses of the eye that make it more opaque. This makes rays of light harder to reach the retina. Lie looking through a really dirty window. It may also be the early signs of a developing cataract. There is something you can do about it to regain your ability to see in dimly lit environments as you age.

The Seven Tenets of Aging - The Latest In Light Therapy
The Seven Tenets of Aging - The Latest in Light Therapy Guest: Dr. Sandra Kauffman - Patrick Johnson
There are innumerable things a person can read concerning aging, but at the most basic level, organisms age because their component cells age. We are all made of cells or cell products and as they falter, so do we.
Because cell aging is multifactorial, the organization of these concepts is important.
The Protocol organizes these various theories of cellular aging into seven categories or tenets. The information on this website discusses these concepts in the language of science. For the equally curious, yet less science oriented folks that find this a bit confusing, there is a more readily understandable version in the book that equates cells to a factory. By following the analogy, this information becomes more digestible.
The following seven tenets encompasses all of the presently known modes of cellular aging. Based on this organizational scheme, we will then develop a strategy where aging is curtailed in every category.
PLUS
Everywhere you turn, light therapy units are being promoted to do amazing almost magical things. But what's actually possible from these units seems to be a missing discussion.

Low Sugar Keto Wines + Why GHK-cu Blue For Skin Guest: Debbi Barber - Dr. Suzanne turner, MD - Jim Pfieffer, Vintner
Several years ago a new category of wines appeared due to the large number of people who were low-carb/keto. These were low-sugar wines. And people paid dearly for these "special" wines. But were they getting ripped off? How much residual sugar is there in the non-sweet variety of wines? Are there ways to tell if a wine is low-sugar without paying triple and quadruple the price? PLUS Research has pushed the copper peptide GHK-cu into the limelight for cosmetic purposes. Its touted to help regrow hair, return hair to its natural color and reverse the aging of skin. We to the bottom of what GHK-cu can and CAN NOT do on todays show.

Merging Ancient Wisdom With Modern Insights + Poor Quality Carbohydrates Heart Disease and Death
Merging Ancient Wisdom With Modern Insights + How Poor Quality Carbohydrates Increases Heart Disease and Death Guest: Dr. Asad Choudhry. MD - Dr. David Jenkins, Ph.D.
Understanding the body from a physics / electromagnetic perspective is what is missing from modern medical research and it's essentially why we spend so much money and get nowhere. This includes our relationship to technology; understanding in detail the physical impacts of our changing world on human biology. Using nature to protect ourselves and push the limits of our minds and bodies. Merging ancient wisdom with modern insights. Prior to medical school, Dr. Choudhry was trained in mathematics and physics as an undergraduate and that training and rigorous point of view stayed with him throughout his medical education. He began to notice that there were serious holes and problems with many of the scientific foundations of allopathic medicine and allopathy-based research models. A year into clinical practice he realized that becoming a doctor is a pair of golden handcuffs if you are genuinely interested in healing patients. You pretty much are at the mercy of treatment algorithms that are handed down to you.
PLUS A global study of people living on five continents has found a diet high in poor quality carbohydrates leads to a higher risk of heart attacks, strokes, and death. The higher risks of a diet high in poor quality carbohydrates, called a high glycemic diet, were similar whether people had previous cardiovascular disease or not. The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine today, is the largest of a geographically and dietary diverse population on this issue, as previous studies have chiefly focused on high-income Western countries.

Becoming A Happiness Warrior
Becoming A Happiness Warrior Guest: Eric North
Almost twenty years ago, a few days before Easter of 2002, North was in the end stages of an almost ten-year abusive relationship. Life had lost its magic--he was mostly depressed, lonely, and very disconnected. He had lost his job, lost touch with his family, and had been living in a succession of cheap hotel rooms with an abusive partner. Living with an alcoholic or addict would be hard enough, but a physical and mental abuse adds an even deeper soul-destroying hell.
After a particularly violent event, he felt his inner strength return and knew that he would do anything from that moment on to change his life. He left right then with nowhere to go, an unpaid hotel bill, and barely enough money to survive for another day. As desperate as things were, he knew that he was going to turn his life around. On that day, the blueprint for what would become his new life as the Happiness Warrior was forged.

Antihypertensive Properties of Green and Black Tea
Antihypertensive Properties of Green and Black Tea Guest: Dr. Geoffrey W. Abbott, M.S., Ph.D.
A new study from the University of California, Irvine shows that compounds in both green and black tea relax blood vessels by activating ion channel proteins in the blood vessel wall. The discovery helps explain the antihypertensive properties of tea and could lead to the design of new blood pressure-lowering medications.
Published in Cellular Physiology and Biochemistry, the discovery was made by the laboratory of Geoffrey Abbott, PhD, a professor in the Department of Physiology and Biophysics at the UCI School of Medicine. Kaitlyn Redford, a graduate student in the Abbott Lab, was first author of the study titled, "KCNQ5 potassium channel activation underlies vasodilation by tea."
Results from the research revealed that two catechin-type flavonoid compounds (epicatechin gallate and epigallocatechin-3-gallate) found in tea, each activate a specific type of ion channel protein named KCNQ5, which allows potassium ions to diffuse out of cells to reduce cellular excitability. As KCNQ5 is found in the smooth muscle that lines blood vessels, its activation by tea catechins was also predicted to relax blood vessels - a prediction confirmed by collaborators at the University of Copenhagen.

Silent MRSA Carriers Have Twice the Mortality Rate
Silent MRSA Carriers Have Twice the Mortality Rate Guest: Dr. Arch Mainous, Ph.D.
2% of the US population has MRSA at any given time. That's a large portion of the population. MRSA - or Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus - is rampant in hospitals, nursing homes, gyms, prisons and anywhere there is a concentration of people with open wounds and compromised immune systems. My bet is everyone knows someone who has it. In the elderly and infants it can be deadly. When it gets into the bloodstream it travels to every organ in the body. As the name implies, it's antibiotic resistant so depending on how bad the infection is difficult to get rid of. But over time you can get rid of it.
An emerging problem however is people who carry the bacteria and don't know it. If you don't develop symptoms and the infection you my never know you have it. And that will put you at greater risk of premature death.
