On September 15, 2023, the United Auto Workers (UAW) labor union went on strike at Ford Motor Company, General Motors, and Stellantis plants, demanding pay increases, improved benefits, and an end to the tier system that gives newer workers less compensation for the same work than better-compensated workers with more seniority.
Workers at the Ford Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne talked to me after a week on the picket line on September 21.

"This Is Still America": New Yorker Talks Vax Mandates, Migrants, Homeless, Veterans in NYC
On August 14, 2023, at a hearing before New York Supreme Court Judge Ralph Porzio in the Richmond County Courthouse, petitioners' attorney Sujata Gibson presented oral arguments for class-action certification in DiCapua et al v. City of New York et al, a lawsuit brought by NYC Department of Education employees who were denied religious exemptions under the DOE's COVID-19 vaccine mandate.
Supporters rallied outside the courthouse and packed the courtroom and courthouse hallway during the hearing. Many of those attending were workers who were fired or otherwise adversely affected by mandates.
I spoke with this New Yorker who was not involved in the case but just happened to be in the area during the rally. He talked with me about his views on New York City's vaccine mandates, the recent influx of migrants, homeless New Yorkers, services for veterans, and other issues New Yorkers are facing.

AOC Declines to Support Reinstatement of Workers Fired by Mandates, Implies Support of More Mandates
On July 6, 2023, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez held a town hall meeting in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. She discussed recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions and local renewable energy projects, and took questions from constituents.
Although she discussed labor and civil rights issues during the town hall, and touched on bodily autonomy and economic recovery from the pandemic, AOC declined to voice support for reinstating New Yorkers who were fired under vaccine mandates that have now been lifted.
Her response that reinstatement of workers to jobs that no longer have a COVID-19 vaccination requirement should depend on the sector suggests that she supports renewed mandates for certain sectors.
New York City's mandates applied to all City employees and the vast majority of workers in the private sector, and many former City workers are still making efforts to get reinstated to their former employment.

INTERVIEWS: Attorney Sujata Gibson and Petitioners Talk Class-Action Lawsuit Against DOE Vax Mandate
On May 18, 2023, Attorney Sujata Gibson argued against a motion by the City to dismiss DiCapua et al v. City of New York et al in Judge Ralph Porzio’s Staten Island courtroom. This lawsuit was brought by 14 current and former NYC Department of Education employees who were adversely affected by the DOE’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate, as well as the organization Teachers for Choice.
The case is a proposed class action lawsuit, and in the hearing, Judge Porzio set a June 7 date to deliver his decision on the motion to dismiss and, assuming the case is not dismissed, hear arguments on class action certification. If DiCapua is certified as a class action lawsuit, its outcome would apply to many current and former DOE employees beyond the named petitioners.
Attorney Sujata Gibson and two of the petitioners in the DiCapua et al v. City of New York et al anti-mandate lawsuit talked with me outside the Staten Island Courthouse, after the hearing.

"It's Worse than Guilty Until Proven Innocent" Atty Bobbie Anne Cox Speaks on Quarantine Reg Lawsuit
On May 16, 2023, a group of New Yorkers rallied in support of medical freedom and to protest current legislative efforts at East Capitol Park, in Albany. Members of several groups that oppose vaccine mandates attended and spoke at the event, including Teachers for Choice, Bravest for Choice, New York Freedom Rally, Educators for Freedom, and Children's Health Defense.
Attorney Bobbie Anne Cox spoke at the rally about her lawsuit against the Hochul administration's 10 NYCRR 2.13 “Isolation and Quarantine Procedures” regulations, which allowed New York State to quarantine individuals suspected of having a transmissible disease. Cox won the case, and the Hochul administration is currently appealing.

Earlier the same day, some of the protesters attended a New York State Assembly Health Committee hearing, where two bills they oppose were passed by the committee:
A276, which would give minors the right to consent to treatments and vaccinations against STDs (without consent of a parent or guardian)
