Deer rescued after getting trapped in trench
Overnight, a deer fell into a 10-inch wide, 6-foot-deep trench. The trench was for a waterline from a well to a new house. The landowner and a carpenter eventually were able to release the deer safely. It was too dangerous to pull the buck out without securing it. So, it was tied to a small tree to gain leverage, check for injury, and secure it for release.

Newborn Fawn Meets Golden Retriever
I find a whitetail deer fawn just a few hours old. My Golden Retriever Jake has his first interaction with a fawn. He's such a good boy! The mother was 50 yards away feeding.
If you find one, enjoy the experience and take pictues if you have a camera, but leave them there! If you happen to touch a fawn, the mother will NOT abandon it. That's a myth. If you know someone who takes one home, number one, it's illegal; number two try to get them to take the fawn back to the exact spot they found it. The mother will come and get it. Our state recently formed a policy people who bring in fawns as "orphans" to take them back to the exact spot, or if they leave them with the state, they will be euthanized. The policy reduced the number of fawns brought to wildlife officials by 80%. After I made this video, I watched the mother come an hour later and lead the fawn from the area.

Whitetail Fawn Rescue
A five month old whitetail buck is spotted trapped in a neighbor's fence. Tools are grabbed and rushed to hopefully help. It doesn't look good. The barbwire has cut to the bone. The wire is so tight that a crowbar won't fit. A screwdriver is used. The 45 lb buck fawn is released. After running a few yards and gaining balance, the fawn runs away with no limp. A couple of days later, the fawn is spotted with a slight limp, and the cut quickly healing. The fence was tightened, and a "stay" wire used to keep the barb wire from being able to twist together again along the entire fence. The buck survived for another 5 years. It had a deformed ankle, but walked without a limp.

Giant Bull Elk Bugling in Montana
September at the Elk Viewing Area on the Charles M Russell National Wildlife Reserve has hundreds of elk massed along the Missouri River during the breeding season (Rut). This area is open to the public and may be the best place in the US to see giant bull elk on public property with no entry fee. These elk are free range animals on the 1.1 million acre refuge. They disperse after the rut from the 1200 acre Viewing Area and can be hunted by anyone lucky enough to draw the right tag outside the viewing area.

How Big Did Our 3 Inch Rainbow Trout Grow in 100 Days?
We stocked 3 inch rainbow trout into a new Montana pond in May. The trout were from a local Montana hatchery. We begin to catch them 100 days later to see how they are doing. We checked again in October, and caught them through the ice in December. The hatchery said to expect about 1 inch growth a month for the first few months. This pond is full of freshwater shrimp, mayfly nymphs and leeches. We found that the incredible amount of food in the pond resulted in 2 inches of growth per month in the first 100 days, with the trout averaging between 8 and 10 inches. By October, some trout approached 12 inches and were filling out their bodies and grew thicker. In December, we caught some trout by ice fishing. The trout averaged 11-13 inches in length and put on an amazing amount of weight in 7 months.
We will be catching some of the trout when they are one year old to see how big they are then. We will also be stocking 100 Kamloops rainbow trout in May. Kamloops rainbows are the largest landlocked species of rainbow trout in the world.
Ponds in this area that have freshwater shrimp have produced rainbow trout of up to 10 pounds in a few years. We can't wait to see how big both species grow. We will post yearly videos about how big these fish grow.

Building a Perfect Trout Pond with Wildlife Enhancement
We build a private pond on a Montana ranch to stock trout, and irrigate food plots for wildlife enhancement. And....Find a Dinosaur during the construction!
We find the perfect location to build a trout pond on a ranch in Montana. Fed by springs and only a few hundred yards from one of Montana's most productive spring creeks, we look to capitalize on this location by creating a one acre, 15 feet deep pond with a perfect food chain. Ponds are basically sterile after construction. There isn't a food chain established. Using a few plants, freshwater shrimp,
insects and bacteria from the Blue Ribbon trout stream close by, we inoculated the new pond with this highly productive food chain to grow big healthy rainbow trout.
In addition, we apply for a permit to allow us to irrigate food plots around the pond to enhance the diet for the many species of animals and birds in the area. Shore birds and waterfowl were attracted and nested. Many small animal species like mink, muskrats, foxes, and herons are now using this pond to find food and water. Large animals like deer, bears and moose were attracted to this enhanced area.
During the construction of the pond, a dinosaur was found! You get to take a look at the first bone that was found, a vertebrae from the tail of a Jurassic dinosaur.
Future videos will show the stocking of trout and catching them to see how big they grow. Videos of the discovery and excavation of the dinosaur are coming, so subscribe to the Wildlife Channel to be notified when these videos are uploaded and follow along on these exciting stories.

Stocking 3 Inch Rainbow Trout in a Perfect Montana Pond - From Hatchery to the Water
We stock 2 to 4 inch Rainbow Trout in a Private Pond in Montana. We built what we think is a perfect trout pond, introduced a food chain including freshwater shrimp, and put the fish in the pond when there is enough food for the trout to thrive on.
Be sure to subscribe to The Wildlife Channel for future videos showing how big the fish grow. This is a new pond, so there is no competition for food from other fish. Private ponds in the vicinity of this pond have grown 10 pound trout when freshwater shrimp are available.

Building a Perfect Montana Trout Pond in Time Lapse
A Montana landowner with a very diverse conservation property builds a 1 acre, spring fed pond for both trout and wildlife. We think that this pond will be a perfect trout pond that will grow large trout due to the millions of freshwater shrimp that thrive in it.
