One of the best 2 things I've done as an international tourist was do the dark tourism thing and visit Chernobyl Ukraine. I took a day tour from Kiev Ukraine to Chernobyl where you get to visit first hand the infamous Nuclear Power Plant that exploded in 1986 and blasting radioactive radiation everywhere. It was one of the most colossal humanitarian crisis as every passing minute more radiation would be released and it is a silent invisible killer that lasts for thousands of years! By visiting first hand you learn the countless lives lost and heroic acts taken to contain the disaster but best of all you learn how the Soviet Union mismanaged the disaster. The most fascinating thing is the abandoned city of Prypat. Enough chat just watch it and enjoy.
