This past weekend I got to take my bike up to Oklahoma and discovered the vital importance of double checking the route you just made PRIOR to doing a ride for the first time. I highly recommend using the heatmaps on Ridewithgps.com to see where other people are biking so you don't end up lost in the woods hoping you find the path that you could have sworn the map showed. Relaxing 85 mile bike loop as I travel travel in a loop around Eagle Mountain Lake. This is an extremely hilly route and unfortunately, I ran out of space on my card for the last 9 miles of the loop. This was the farthest I've ever gone, but I came prepared. I had two 24 oz bottles with me, one of water and one of Gatorade. I started early before it got hot and at the half way point refilled my bottles with more water and Gatorade and then stopped at a sonic for one more refill as it was quite hot by this point. I had a banana with me, a cliff bar, and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (and got a red, white, and blue slushie when I stopped at sonic). Relaxing bike loop as I travel from Fort Worth, Roanoke, Trophy Club, Southlake, and Grapevine to the Cotton Belt Trial. The Cotton Belt Trail follows the former St. Louis Southwestern Railway, nicknamed the Cotton Belt line, which began running in the late 1800s and was discontinued in the 1970s. It's around 11 miles long, but I'll only be going along the first 5 miles of it before turning off and heading for the John Barfield Trail up to Bear Creek and finally back to Fort Worth.
