Vibration Noises from Barkbuster handguards
With 40,000 some odd miles of abuse the Barkbuster Storm plastic handguards started making annoying vibration noises at certain rpm so I decided to fix them or at least experiment with what I had readily available. The plastic had not only worn down a bit, but also the aluminum backbone. So I added some epoxy to the channel in the handguards to tighten them back up for now. Also played with some flat black Rustoleum Camo to de gloss them after a quick scuffing. I may Camo pattern them at a later date, but I don't really care what they look like to be honest.

Chinesium lever update/follow up
So the Chinesium levers that I had to modify to work on the KLR650 are still problematic. The brake lever was silently destroying at least o e seal on the master cylinder piston causing premature failure. In this video I am inspecting before disassembly to try to diagnose what might have caused the problem. This bike is just over 4 years old and the fluid is flushed at every brake pad replacement. Current mileage is 43,678 miles.
Moral of the story is don't buy cheap, crappy parts. They always cost more one way or another and you still don't have the better parts.

Issues after letting ethanol fuel sit for too long
Filled up with 10% ethanol fuel the morning after my accident and didn't ride again for over 6 weeks. It did get cranked and run long enough to warm up at about 6 weeks, but the damage had already been done. So I added some Techron and ran it through the carb and let it sit a day or so and am now running the tank out. I'll add more Techron to the new non ethanol Real Gasoline and the problem should clear up by the end of that tank.
It's already getting a little better.

#2 Accident - Flat Caused Bike & Rider Damage
Tire went flat, unseated the bead on the front tire and caused a "little issue" in a turn to stop and check the bike for cause of instability. Bad timing and honestly this could have been avoided in this instance. I should have pulled over and checked this a mile or more back, but didn't.
So let my mistake be a lesson for you.

Nothing happened here. Just an example video for someone from the HaloCam M1
Warning! This video is boring. It serves no entertainment value.
You have been warned....
The most uninteresting dashcam video ever.
Just an example for someone that is having motorcycle dash cam issues.
If you are watching this random video you must be bored and you really need to reconsider how much time you waste on YouTube...
This video sucks.

"Almost" Ran a Red Light
Posting this merely as an example. I'm 99% sure I will not get a ticket in the mail. I think i might add front and rear "dash cams" to all my vehicles...
First night with the HaloCam M1 and I cam oh so close to running a red light with a "Red Light Camera" enforcement. I didn't even see the strobes go off, but if I'm wrong at least I have evidence.
This footage is only edited for time, file size, and to combine both front and rear cameras into one video.

Halocam M1 First Test
First test after installing the HaloCam M1 with front and rear 1080p cameras. I took the raw footage from both cameras and put them together with Picture in Picture and added some on screen text. Other than that I did not edit the raw footage or the audio.
The audio is basically useless and I might turn off recording audio in the settings going forward. It has it's weaknesses and the physical quality isn't very good, but it might serve its purpose well enough. I'll do a video in the future after I've had more time to work with it.

Internal O-Ring Chain Lube After 500 Miles
So to all of the NO lube chain maintenance guys and gals: this is a brand new o-ring chain that purposefully packed the master link with the supplied grease at just over 500 miles ago.
Wonder what happened to the grease inside these sealed pins and rollers? That's right, they get hot, then cool, then get hot again. What happens to a "sealed" chambers contents when it builds pressure from heat? You would be correct if your answer included the liquid/warm grease would be pushed out each time as the air in the heated chamber expanded until no lubricant was left.
So how do you extend the life of a part that could get rid of it's own internal "sealed" lube? Super easy- lubricate it with a bearing worthy lubricant that can possibly get a little in past the "o-ring seals". Now enters PJ1 chain lube. My preference is the heavier duty Black Label for this exact example.

Quick Field Repair of a Vent Hose
Gas tank vent hoses are notorious for splitting. Yes you could replace the hose with preferably a better kind of material.
BUT this is an example of a field repair with what I had with me at the time.

Experiment #1 to Reduce Wind Rumble on the peak of the AT950 Scorpion Modular Helmet
Excuse my stopped up nose. Hay fever is kicking right now.
Especially when I'm wearing hearing protection, the beak/peak on the AT950 rumbles from wind and seems amplified when the face shield is closed. This kind of defeats tge purpose of wearing hearing protection if low pitched rumbles are louder than the bike and added to all of the other sounds. This causes my tinnitus to be worse after riding.
Yes I have the wind smoothed out about as much as possible with the Madstad windshield.
When I do get tge amplified Rumble all I have to do is touch the peak and it stops. So this experiment is using a rubber o-ring to insulate the parts a little with something a little more forgiving.
I may have to try different locations and/or materials, but one of my ideas should help at least a little.
I'll make another video after testing.

Never Waste a Good Opportunity to Upgrade when doing a Repair
Found a broken wire on my air pump when I needed it. Almost just repaired the connection when I realized that it was a perfect time to upgrade to a SAE connection.
Never let a repair get in the way of a good upgrade.

Follow-Up: Aluminum Cold Anodizing Experiment
Follow-Up 3 days later on the Aluminum Cold Anodizing Experiment.
As expected it is not a great wear surface for rubbing or abrasion. I'll probably just reapply right before using Raptor Liner in this area.

Aluminum Cold Anodizing Experiment
Just an experiment to see if cold anodized aluminum surface holds up to wear any better than paint. I have my doubts, but real world experiments happen for a reason.

Chinesium Levers Follow Up
Follow up on the Chinesium KLR Levers.
Spoiler Alert! DO NOT BUY!
Probably (hopefully) that goes without saying. These are definitely not safe the way they come. Just bite the bullet and get the Warp 9 version. I hear they are great.
I would not have normally purchased these, but they accepted my abnormally low bid on ebay so I had to purchase them.

Follow up to the last video about heat shield rattle 2 of 2
Either do what I'm showing here or grind/file a little off of the collet to create a recess so you can tighten up the heat shield.
Don't forget the anti-seize!

Fix this before it's too late on your KLR 650 1 of 2
Before your 2 Allen Head bolts(E Model - Gen 2)seize on your exhaust header heat shield (And they will. And you will kick yourself ;p) take them out while you can and apply some anti-seize (copper if available) so you don't end up with that problem. I've been meaning to do it and just happened to get lucky.

Just Lube It
Yes I trapped more Lube into the cable housing after the video ended. I put this off longer than normal and it was dirty coming out the other end.
This clutch cable is the original with over 32,000 miles on it. This bike also sits outside for 99% of it's life.
Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself and it'll keep lasting.

Does your motorcycle have a journal?
If you work on your own bike you really should make notes and keep a journal. It can come in handy in the future. If you are the type to eventually sell your trusty steed the new owner will appreciate it even more.
What I show in this short goes with my journal. I have the instructions I used when doing the work with notes on the specifics like orifice sizes, drill bit sizes, tap sizes, etc. The actual journal has the dates, prices, and mileage which I'll try to cover in a separate video.
