Council of Colonels w guest Michelle Black Nov 15th, 2021
The Oct. 4, 2017, ambush of a U.S. Army Special Forces team by militants aligned with the Islamic State in the Greater Sahara caught the American public and the U.S. military flat-footed. The ambush sparked debate over the role U.S. forces played in Africa by shining a spotlight on far-flung missions many people weren’t even aware were underway.
The U.S. military investigation that followed did little to tamp down on the questions that bothered Michelle Black, the widow of Green Beret Staff Sgt. Bryan Black, who was among the four U.S. soldiers and five Nigeriens slain in the ambush.

A veteran of the Afghan War, Tom returned home and was inspired to run for public office in the Village of Sand Lake. As a Village Trustee and then Village President, Tom secured funding for infrastructure improvements that built better roads and provided quality drinking water, while also balancing the budget and protecting it from the local establishment swamp.

Council of Colonels w guest Tom Amenta, Sep 7, 21
Council of Colonel will interview Tom Amenta. Writer of the book: The Twenty-Year War. Tom Amenta was born in Chicago, IL, and grew up in the area before enlisting, against his family’s wishes, into the United States Army on his 18th birthday. Following his five years as a member of the 75th Ranger Regiment, including two combat tours in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Tom earned his degree in political science from the University of Illinois. Tom spent the next eight years as the COO of the veteran lifestyle apparel company Ranger Up. He pioneered the veteran lifestyle apparel category and helped grow Ranger Up into the premier company in the space. At Ranger Up, he passionately advocated for veterans’ causes in many spaces, including lobbying Senate service committees. Later, he helped produce and starred in the only fully veteran-produced Hollywood movie, Range 15. He is a passionate advocate for veteran entrepreneurship and assisting veterans in transition, which led him to author his first book, The Twenty-Year War. Tom is the Chief Development Officer of United Valor.
