Mantis Whisperer

I was trying to lure "Little Thor" out of his hidey-hole. I think that spot on the cat-tree was his favourite in the whole house (while he was that tiny) because no other resident could possibly fit in there, so it was like his own personal little cave.

I filmed this video in the autumn of 2018. My husband and I found her hanging around our back porch, and since I'm obsessed with mantids, we filmed her. Enjoy!

For a number of weeks, this cat loitered around the entrance to our church. Since he was so handsome, I thought I'd film him... Because why not?

This is an adult female mantis who I found on the underside of an outdoor table on our porch one autumn day in 2018. I zoomed in as close as I could to get as much detail as I could, and then shifted the focus on the camera back and forth to show details of the different parts of her body. After living in my front porch for quite a few days (in autumn of 2019), an adult female mantis decided to depart, and I happened to catch the moment—or rather, the half-hour event—on film. Since she had lived on my porch for so long, I took to calling her “Miss Minty.” This is her journey from the porch to the big tree in front of our house, and this clip is the last I ever saw of her.
