It's time for a 36-hour fast!
Every 6 weeks or so, regardless of how I feel. It's a good exercise for mindset, discipline, and overall assessment of how you feel.

Going to lose another 15lbs by eating 2550 calories and adding sirloin onto the menu.
As I have some upcoming races it's time to shed a few more pounds. I've lost a total of 92 lbs, and have put on 12 lbs of muscle in the last 14 months. Still too heavy and carry a bunch of fat on my midsection so time to lose 15 lbs and assess how I feel. Going to do that by cutting back on calories 5 to 600 a day, and adding sirloin which will bring my fat down to 200 g and my protein up to 200 grams. I'll see you how I feel in a month.

Sometimes you're just hungry!
Sometimes what I eat is simply not enough. Usually, that is my body telling me something, as I typically am not hungry during the day. Being hungry at night is especially hard since it is not a good idea to eat 3-hours before you go to bed.
After being at this for as long as I have, I have some go-to's to keep me away from the food. If it was warmer outside I would go for a walk, but since it's winter I will tell myself to just make it until the morning and think about the giant breakfast I'm going to eat in the morning. The mind will play games with me, but since I know I'm not hungry, I concentrate on that point.
Essentially I try to find something, anything, to take my mind off being hungry.

Eating the carnivore diet and I ran out of steak!
Lucky for me I had hamburger and cheese in the refrigerator. The wife bought a ribeye roast that needed to be cut up, but I didn't have time. So I improvised and ate a fantastic dinner, one that carried me through to the next morning.
What would I have done if I didn't have anything else? Not eaten and done a 24-hour fast. No issues as I do those regularly.

Avoid Temptation: The problem with cheat meals.
I get asked this question all the time, and it seems very straightforward to me. I set a date 8 months out, if I hit a specific weight by then I would have a cheat meal or day. As it turned out it turned into a vacation, one where I walked 80 or so miles for the week while also enjoying a few meals. I also started that week in August at 216 lb down from 296 in January. I think if I had cheated, even just a meal, I would have failed like I did the previous times.

Carnivore cooking: I like it medium rare.
I eat all my steak medium rare, and I keep the cooking simple. 2 minutes a side, 4 flips, then 1 minute on each side. If the steak is an inch and a half, it always comes out medium rare. And then it sits for a couple of minutes and is eaten quickly.

Get outside, preferably in the sun if possible.
I'm down on a couple of days' vacation and damn enjoying my runs in the morning in the 80° sunshine. Headed home soon and will be back in the cold weather, but that's not going to stop me from going outside, especially when it's sunny. That 1 hour a day of sunshine, as many days in a row as I can get it, is not only healing therapy for the body but also therapy for the soul. Being out in the sun a small amount every day for me has been part of the form to help me change the direction my life was going from obese and dying, to healthy and thriving.

I get this a lot so it's worth pointing out. What you don't eat is as important as what you do eat. So if I have inspired you to lean towards the carnivore lifestyle a little bit more, remember that you have to subtract if you're going to add. Removing all of the sugars, carbs, and limiting the fiber is every bit as important as adding more fats and protein.
So have at that bacon, sausage, and juicy ribeye. Just lose the bread, pasta, pizza, and dessert!

The quote "what the eyes see, the mind can't believe" is a reminder that what we perceive is limited by our prior knowledge, beliefs, and understanding. Our minds filter and interpret incoming information in order to make sense of it. Well, that's how I felt when I first heard about the carnivore diet. It just seemed so unbelievable that eating nothing but Protein and Fat could be healthy.
But as I started to do more research, I realized that there are a lot of health benefits to this way of eating. 13 months later, and down 92lbs of fat, up 12lbs of muscle, and had cut my meds in half, TWICE, over the last year, I am a firm believer. Now to try and convince everyone else!

I'm all about counting my calories and making sure I'm getting the right amount of protein and fat. That's why for breakfast, I typically go for around 1,400 calories.
