Agricultural Burn NE of Hwy 111 and Heber Road 8-4-2023
8/4/2023
Agricultural Burns North of Calexico.
Another agricultural burn is taking place north of the city of Calexico, Ca., near the junction of Hwy 111 and Heber Road with plumes hoovering over residential areas and flooding our communities with toxic quemicals. Though these practices are legal in Imperial County, it is immoral to expose residents to agricultural burning and toxic levels of air pollution. The agency responsible for issuing permits for industrial agriculture to continue these harmful practices remains the Imperial Valley Air Pollution Control District. Children have a right to breathe clean air but instead they breathe this toxic pollution all year long. It is easier to raise children in a healthy community.

Up In Smoke Again 2/19/2023
Up In Smoke Again! 2/19/2023
The All American Canal that runs along the eastern part of the city of Calexico, between Bowker and Cole roads, until recently, provided nature lovers with a peaceful place to rest the soul and momentarily escape from the daily grind reveling in the natural beauty that surrounded its stream. Observing a majestic sunset, marveling at the song of the birds, taking the family and the pet for a walk, riding a bike or fishing were healthy and frequent activities that the residents of this area used to do. However, due to the increase in noxious and dangerous activities including illegal dumping, frequent fires, and the number of homeless people living in this area, very few people dare to venture into this place anymore.

Panoramic View for a Highly Polluted Thursday Morning 12-23-2021
I have put together some images taken at different spots between Calexico and El Centro to show that high levels pollution do not necessarily concentrate in Calexico, but engulf the entire valley. There's nothing moderate about the pollution levels in these images. Anyone can see that pollution levels are high throughout the entire region and that breathing this toxic air can be harmful to your health. This is just another attempt by Imperial Valley's Air Pollution Control District into fooling you that breathing this air is safe while this agency disparages our taxpayer dollars pretending to reduce air pollution levels. Air pollution is very harmful to human health, it’s actually a silent killer. How many people around you suffer from a pollution related illness? Air pollution is the 4th leading risk factor for early death worldwide. Here are some statistics that might help you understand the impact of air pollution on your health: https://www.stateofglobalair.org/health

Another Highly Polluted Wednesday Morning in the Imperial Valley 12/22/2021
Sustaining a multi-billion-dollar agricultural industry comes at a hefty price for every resident in this entire region: breathing toxic air 24/7, 365 days a year is not healthy for anyone! Those who promote the idea that agricultural burning is only a small part of the air pollution equation in this valley do not understand that air pollution always lands somewhere and accumulates, and when stirred, drifts into the air becoming part of an endless pollution loop whose chemical particles will eventually end in someone's lungs.

Another Highly Polluted Tuesday Morning in the Imperial Valley 12/14/2021
Another highly polluted Tuesday morning in the Imperial and Mexicali Valleys. If you thought yesterday’s pollution levels were high, think again. The combination of pouring tons of chemicals into the ground, aerial and ground pesticide applications, land tilling, and agricultural burning as a result of agricultural and industrial activity will continue to saturate the air we breathe with toxic chemicals that are harmful to our health.
