How to get the normal Kontakt interface back in Native Instruments KONTAKT 7. With Kontakt 7, Native Instruments updated the interface to work better with their keyboards and Maschine. And it works great if you like preset browsing instead of going to a specific library. But many of us still prefer the standard Kontakt view where you see all of your libraries on the left and the loaded instrument on the right. Well have no fear, you can still get that in Kontakt 7. All you need to do is hit the Library button on top, and then go to View and Show Rack View. That's it. Full review and demo of the Shure MV7 USB/XLR Microphone, and a comparison between the MV7 and SM7B 🔥 The Shure MV7 is like the little brother of the legendary Shure SM7B. It has a similar body structure, and the classic SM7B yoke that makes getting the mic into position very easy. The MV7 can be used with USB or with XLR. When used with USB, you can access the built-in DSP effects like EQ and compression - making it so you don't need to use other audio plugins when recording or streaming or having a conference call. The ShurePlus MOTIV app is easy to use and straight-forward. You can use the Auto-Setting to let the mic take care of all the technical stuff, and even help to prevent things like clipping. Or, use the Manual mode to dial in just the sound you want. And you can adjust the microphone from the on-board Touch strip to quickly adjust volume, gain, mute, etc... When used with XLR, you won't be able to access the DSP effects, but you can add whatever plugins you want in your DAW or NLE to prefect your sound. I do wish there were more Audio FX included in the mic, things like a De-esser, and De-Plosive would be a nice addition, but these can generally be avoided by using proper mic technique. Of course if you are live-streaming, you can always add VST audio plugins in OBS if you need to. There is also the new MV7+ which just came out a couple days ago. It updated the USB connection to USB-C and includes more built-in audio FX, and better Auto-Level operation. So, if you want the MV7, I would spent a few more bucks and get the MV7+ I'll also test the MV7 versus the Shure SM7B. We'll test them completely raw, and with plugins (audio fx) in our DAW. How to use Clip Gain and Dynamic Clip Gain in Studio One 6 🔥 and it's even better than Clip Gain in Pro Tools 🤯 There are two types of Clip Gain in Studio One: the normal, standard, static Clip Gain that adjusts the volume across a clip evenly; and Dynamic Clip Gain that changes over time. *Dynamic Clip Gain is called "Gain Envelope" in Studio One. With Dynamic Clip Gain, you can manually place your nodes/breakpoints to control the volume of your track, OR you can do it "Pro Tools Style" by making a selection and raising or lowering the level. You can also use the Paint tools to freely draw in volume changes, or use shapes (Triangle, Square, Sine, etc...) While Pro Tools is usually thought of as the "king of editing", Studio One 6 implements Clip Gain better than Pro Tools does. It's faster, and you don't have to use tons of modifier keys or keyboard shortcuts. Why you don't want to use exFAT for your sound and sample library content, and what format you should use for your external drives. If you are using external hard drives or external sold state drives (SSD) for sample libraries and sounds for virtual instruments, then you do not want to use exFAT for the drive! exFAT is much slower when loading samples into Kontakt for example, and it can also cause glitches in playback. exFAT is also more prone to corruption since it does not have journaling. While exFAT is awesome because it can work on both Mac and PC, the performance hit simply isn't worth it for your music studio. The format you want to use instead is NTFS for Windows and APFS for Mac. Whether you are using Native Instruments KONTAKT, Toontrack Superior Drummer, IK Multimedia SampleTank, Waves Virtual Instruments, etc... you will benefit from much faster loading times, and less of a chance of drive corruption. If you don't know how to format a drive, it's covered in the video. The external drives I use and recommend are the Samsung T7 Shield SSDs. They have the best price to size and performance ratio. However, if you want the LATEST tech and don't mind spending quiet a bit more, then the Samsung T9 external SSDs would be my choice. How AI will change music creation, the DAW, and plugins. Watch AI create full songs in minutes 🤯 Generative AI, or Artificial Intelligence, will replace the recording of audio for the most part in the next 5-10 years. Instead, you'll be able to simply enter a text prompt, and a track will be generated for you. Need a drum track? Generate it!, Need a piano track? Generate it! Need a vocal track? Generate it! Simple. You'll have full control over style, type, tempo, timing, chord structure, and everything else. Or even generate full songs with a simple text prompt. The DAW will evolve into what I call the "DAIW". It will be a "content aware" environment that will have the ability to generate any sound you want within the DAIW. If you generate a drum track with a certain BPM, the DAIW will be aware of the content on the other tracks and it will be able to generate, for example, a guitar track that goes along with the previously generated drum track. Your DAIW will also mix for you, and master for you. You will not need to adjust volume, panning, eq, compression, etc... All of that will be done for you automatically so your tracks sound "professional". You will also have the options to customize the mix if you choose to do so. Plugins as we known them will go away. Plugins (audio effects, VSTS, ect...) will either be rolled into an AI model, or they will be add-ons that you will have to subscribe to in order to unlock the capabilities in your DAIW. You will be able to use "plugins" by typing or saying exactly what you want to your A.I. assistant. You'll be able to effect a drum track with an SSL-E desk just by typing it in. You'll be able to run your vocal track through a unique, impossible to find EQ just by saying its name. Everything will be subscription based in the future. All DAWs, plugins, and any other software will require a current subscription to use. I'm not saying this is good, I'm saying this is reality. The biggest advancements in AI and music are still 5-10 years away, so you will still need plugins and your current DAW for several years. But if you want to be in the music business in the future, you better start researching AI music and audio generation now. Why you should NOT buy the Shure SM7B in 2023 or beyond, and the NEW mic that you SHOULD buy instead 👍 The Shure SM7B is a podcast and broadcasting heavyweight microphone. Thanks to the influence from people like Joe Rogan, the SM7B has really become the "standard" mic for podcasters. The SM7B is also a mic heavily used by streamers, gamers, and YouTubers. While the SM7B has a "legendary sound" that people seem to like, there's always been an issue with the microphone that made it confusing and difficult to use for many people new to the world of Audio Production. And that is, the SM7B requires a TON of gain (60dB minimum) in order to use it properly. And 70dB+ is even better in my opinion. The problem is that the vast majority of audio interfaces simply do not have anywhere near +60dB of usable gain. Even those that boast a large "gain range" don't actually have that much usable gain. So the solution for most people was to buy a Cloudlifter, or a "Cloudlifter" type device like the FetHead or Coda Stealth (these are also called 'in-line preamps'). These devices would give the SM7B an extra +25dB of clean gain so it could be used properly with pretty much any audio interface. Of course the issue is that these devices cost $100+ and you'll require two XLR cables, plus you'll have to find a place to set or mount the Cloudlifter device. BUT! There is no reason to do that any longer. Shure has created a new microphone that will give you the SAME sound as the SM7B, and includes a built-in pre-amp (like a built-in "Cloudlifter") in a single package 🔥 And that is the new: Shure SM7dB Active Dynamic Microphone 👍 That is the microphone you should get in 2024 and beyond. Save yourself the trouble and the extra cost and get the SM7dB. The SM7dB has the same Legendary Sound as the SM7B....because it IS an SM7B - it just has the in-line preamp built-in now. You also have a selectable amount of gain, which you don't get with a Cloudlifter. With the SM7dB you can choose +18dB or +28dB of gain, which will allow you to choose your own gain staging to get the sound you want. If you would like to drive your audio interface pre-amps harder because you like the sound - go with +18dB on the SM7dB. But, if you don't want the pre-amps of your audio interface to color the sound as much, choose +28dB on the SM7dB for a cleaner sound. So if you are looking to buy an SM7B for your podcast, youtube videos, streaming, or gaming.....DON'T! Instead, buy the SM7dB and you'll get the same sound, the same form factor (the dB is a little longer), and the same performance as an SM7B plus Cloudlifter - except all in a single, much easier to use and setup package.
