Switch-hitting to switch kick on the heavy bag #heavybag #heavybagdrills #heavybagworkout #mma
Switch-hitting to set up the switch kick;
- Different ways of doing this. You can switch hit first and then switch kick or vice versa. Depends on circumstances.
- I like to angle slightly when switch hitting but you can also go straight. Angling is a little safer but slightly slower
- After you finish setting the punches with a full switch, a short switch for the kick is better than a full one. The goal is to push him back to the beginning of his OODA Loop by showing a part of the switch and then do the kick while he processes the difference with the punches.
- The rest is me following up with a combo. Do whatever you like then.

Rhythm changes on the heavy bag #heavybag #martialarts #heavybagdrills #heavybagworkout #mma
The last few seconds of the last round in MMA class.
Just playing with rhythm and trying to keep technique decent enough despite the fatigue.

Off-lining + palm heel combo #heavybag #martialarts #heavybagdrills #heavybagworkout
Off-lining + palm heel combo
- Stepping offline with a parry.
- Then follow up with one or more palm-heel strikes.
- The goal is getting the angle right and maintaining the body mechanics as I add techniques.
- There are plenty of variations with more footwork, different strikes, etc. I was just working off the initial counterattack.

Working on half and full-hip body kicks. #martialarts #heavybag #heavybagworkout #heavybagdrills
Working on half and full-hip body kicks. Not that much speed and power because I wasn't happy with my timing and worked on that for a while.
Sometimes, it is better to take your foot off the gas and focus on specific technical issues instead of powering through. Once you fix things, then you can go hard again and be better for it.
Or as the old saying goes: Festina lente.

Oblique kick and push kick drill.
A kicking drill I like to do: rear oblique kick to lead push kick.
- The goal is to time the kicks and recovery so you develop flow instead of having to pause between techniques.
- To do that, hip control and stability are essential. So is maintaining control of your upper body. If you have difficulty getting into the rhythm, check those for errors first.
- Try switching sides without breaking the flow. I usually do about 10 reps and then switch.
- You can add techniques or use different ones: side kick, round kick, scoop kick, whatever works for you.

Boxing inconsistency
There's an inconsistency in boxing when it comes to training methodology and actual application in a fight. I often see combat sports athletes criticize traditional martial arts for this (often rightfully so), but then not see it in their own training.
