GBMC - Making healthy nutrition choices
It’s the time of year when the New Year’s Resolutions a lot of people made, start to fade back into the old year habits. This morning on the WMAR-2 News Facebook page, registered dietician Jana Wolff sat down with WMAR-2 News’ Christian Schaffer, to share some tips on making and sustaining healthier choices. Wolff is the director of nutrition at the Comprehensive Obesity Management program at GBMC. Some of Jana’s best tips: * Get started! January 1st has come and gone, but that doesn’t mean you have to wait until next year to start feeling better * Watch out for fad diets - they could help you lose weight, but you are likely to regain it unless you make long-term lifestyle changes * Drink your water! Soda and other drinks may contain large amounts of sugar and can leave you feeling dehydrated * Talk to a dietician! There is help available to help you buy and prepare healthy foods that you will enjoy We have attached the video of the interview to this story. Feel free to comment; Jana says she will be monitoring the page and can reply to any questions you may have.

Homeless vets get a better nights sleep thanks to 7 year old and donated mattresses
World Homeless Day – Oct. 10 – draws attention to those in need around the world, triggering actions by many to help out. In the Baltimore area, a 7 year old wanted to help out. Tyler Stallings teamed up with Leesa Sleep and West Elm to donate mattresses at the Maryland Center for Veterans Education and Training. Stallings is the CEO of Kid Time Enterprises, which assembles and distributes hero bags to the homeless community in Baltimore. Stallings also presented a monetary donation and handed out hero bags as well. “I thought that, ‘why do we have homes and the veterans have to find stuff like bags to make clothes out of trash bags and things and you know they don’t have a home?’” Stallings said. “I want to give them out because i felt that, ‘why do we have something and they don’t?’” More than 500,000 Americans who are seeking refuge from homelessness, domestic risk, human trafficking and other hardships also don't have beds. Since Leesa Sleep was founded in 2015, the company has donated more than 30,000 mattresses that have resulted in more than 10 million nights of better rest.
