How to make GRILLZ at home - CAD, 3D Printing & Metal Casting
My buddy Tú asked if I fancied designing a Grill for Instagrammer Charlotte Moran. This isn't something I've ever tried before, but I do enjoy a challenge. I'm no orthodontist and certainly no jeweller, but I have a 3D printer, a basic grasp of CADwork, and a love of melting metals at home. So I decided to apply my lost resin casting approach to Grillz... what could go wrong?

stupidly EASY miniature painting technique using the Slapchop method
Looking for a really easy way to paint miniatures? Fast? Basic technique? Minimum paints? No real painting skill? Then THIS IS IT!
This is genuinely my fourth outing painting the very miniature you see in this video, and whilst the mini might not be your thing, the technique could be. You may have heard of Slapchop, but if there's too much slap, all you get is slop. But by just chilling and enjoying the process, you can achieve amazing results that conventional painting would take weeks to achieve.

Make an EASY coil heating element winding Jig - making electric resistance coils - by VogMan
Make a simple Kanthal wire resistance coil heating element winding jig: I’m making an electric foundry which I’ll be sharing with you soon and I needed to make some resistance coil heating elements. I could have bought these but Kanthal coils can be expensive, but the wire is cheap and this Jig makes creating reliable resistances coils very easy.
In this video I also take a quick look at the daunting Maths involved in coil calculations and provide a link to my online coil calculator here :

How to cut Insulating Fire Bricks the EASY way with a mitre saw by VOGMAN
How to cut Insulating Fire Bricks easily and safely with an ordinary electric mitre saw. I saved £240 by cutting these high temperature Grade 28 insulating blocks myself for an electric foundry (furnace) I'm building ( https://youtu.be/XypmI38IKAw ). Here I'll show you the technique to avoid all that nasty dust and achieve a precise finish.
A quick additional note not obvious in the video... any ordinary wood blade will work fine - but don't use your best one. This material will blunt blades so an old one is best. A keen edge isn't necessary as the material is so soft.

How to make an LED Dog Collar by VOGMAN
Walking a dog in the dark, especially a dark coloured one, can be risky. It’s better to be safe and be seen. This simple project uses everyday items and a couple of very cheap purchases to make an effective, high visibility dog collar. It’s safe, waterproof and low on power consumption, so batteries should last a long time.

Radio Control complete beginners guide - RC made simple - by VOGMAN
Radio Control (RC) Beginners Guide. Want to make a RC model?
What's involved? What equipment is needed? What are servos, transmitters, etc? Want to know what equipment is needed, how it all works, how it wires and fits together?
A few weeks ago I made some caterpillar tracks and here I'll be converting them to Radio Control. I'll be hooking up two motors to a Sabertooth 2x60 Dual motor controllers via an RC Receiver and Transmitter to give me independent steering over a fair distance.
I'll show you what equipment I bought and how I fitted it all together.

How to easily make Caterpillar (Tank) Tracks at home - by VOGMAN
How to MAKE Caterpillar Tracks - continuous tracks - dozer tracks - tank treads - whatever you call the. I'm going to show you an easy way to make some. These aren't flimsy - they're solid - made of metal. Strong and reliable.
Caterpillar tracks have that incredible ability to go places other vehicles can't. When I decided to have a go at making some at home in my garden shed, I had to come up with simpler method. It's just cutting, drilling and bolting. No special tools required.
There's more details about it on my website:
http://vegoilguy.co.uk/continuous_track.php
I'll post any relevant updates there, but for now there's a free set of plans you can download and build from.
My thanks for inspiration go to Matthias Wandel and his wooden tracks example. Please check out his excellent channel.

lost foam casting IMPROVED green sand technique - by VOGMAN
Lost foam casting is typically done with dry sand but here I cast aluminium with Green Sand. Furthermore I share my improved sand casting techniques which have come about after research, experimentation and lengthy discussions with an experienced metallurgist and caster.
I’ve been able to refine my lost foam casting techniques to overcome issues such as folds to achieve a good standard casting every time, with improved metal flow giving a crisper finish.

How to easily Insulate Your furnace (foundry) using plaster - by VOGMAN
How to Insulate your Foundry. After an effective, cheap, simple and easily achievable insulation for your Foundry? Well get plastered! Those terrible plaster foundries that we all love to hate share one thing - they're actually pretty good. So when the superior insulation qualities of plaster are added to the stable walls of a refractory build foundry, you can be certain of reaching those high temperatures.
Stick with me as I cover the outer walls of my home made metal foundry with ordinary sand and plaster and demonstrate to you just how good it is.

EASY BUILD Angle Grinder Stand - step by step guide by VOGMAN
Homemade DIY Angle Grinder Stand EASY build with free PLANS. I needed an angle grinder stand that was easy to build, cheap on materials, accurate and achievable quickly. I came up with a Plywood Grinder Stand that ticked all the boxes!
I could have bought an off-the-shelf stand, but I’ve had poor experiences with them in the past. Other YouTubers seemed to have stands that were made of metal or too complex for my needs. So I came up with this really easy-build plywood stand… and I’m going to show you how I made it.
Its appearance is bulky, yes, but it structurally very strong and it allows for precise, square cuts every time. Mine cost me nothing as it was made with off-cuts and items I already had lying around, but even if I bought the plywood and bolts it would have been half the price of a cheap shop-bought stand.
The design is adaptable for any model and you can shape and trim the frame if aesthetics are important to you.
If you can glue and clamp, you can build this very versatile tool.
Obviously angle grinders and wood are not ideal companions. Grinders spin at high speed and rely on friction - and that's a perfect way to generate fire. But if you're sensible (and if you're not, don't play with angle grinders) you'll be fine.
You can also download a free cutting guide on my website here :

Cutting Wooden Gears & Sprockets the EASY way - by VOGMAN
Cutting Wooden Gears & Sprockets the EASY way - I look at using a very simple jig for improved ease and accuracy. The gear template program by Matthias Wandel provides an excellent template for woodgears. Unfortunately the paper template rips and important guide lines are lost, making accurate cutting difficult. Thankfully this simple jig helps get past these problems.
I strongly recommend looking at Matthias's website and YouTube channel - woodgears.ca/gear

Electric Wheelchair Motor Test & Brake Removal by VOGMAN
Electric Wheelchair Motor Test & Brake Removal - Testing a 24v DC Invacare electric wheelchair motor, looking at the wiring, the safety brake and eventual removal of the brake.
Most wheelchair motors have a safety brake that locks the motor in case of power loss. Whilst essential in wheelchair use, when the motor is used for other applications the wiring can be confusing. I bought an Invacare 24 volt motor from eBay but found it had 4 wires rather than the two I initially expected. That's because the brake is electric and needs disabling or powering for safe use of the motor. Hopefully this video will give you all the information you need to achieve either.

Toyota Vehicle Electric Window Easy Fix by VOGMAN
Disconnecting the battery in a Toyota Landcruiser (2005 LC4 / Prado / 120 Series) can cause a problem with the electric windows. Fortunately there is a very simple solution which I demonstrate here.
Whether this same problem occurs in other Toyota vehicles or other makes and models, I honestly don't know, but by sharing this video I hope to save someone out there the cost of a dealer or auto electrician ; )

Oil burner LEAF BLOWER improvement - by VOGMAN

The leaf blower oil burner combo and overcomes the shortcomings of the mattress-inflater-blower I was previously using and enhances things significantly. Such blowers were difficult for some of my subscribers to source and others lacked the power to "spit" the oil within thin burner.
No such danger here... this leaf blower had bags of power, in fact too much power if it's not properly controlled... but don't worry, I'll show you how in this video.

Metal Foundry easy foam insulation - by VogMan

Whist the refractory that I used to built my foundry is excellent at handling high temperatures, it's not very good at retaining that heat. This means my homemade veg oil burner struggles on cold days and the whole set up was inefficient. Thankfully here I demonstrate a simple and affordable solution to the problem.

What are Relays? How do RELAYS work? How to use 4 pin and 5 pin Relays - an easy TUTORIAL by VOGMAN
What are Relays? How do relays work? How to wire them and use them in our vehicle or other electrical circuits?
This tutorial will show you how Relays are commonly used in automotive 12 volt circuits to power all manner of auto related equipment, like radios, AC, amps, subwoofers, alarms and more. Understanding how relays work means you can safely and easily work with auto electrics.
In this subscriber requested introductory video, I'm going to show not only the theory but a real life application of 12v Relays at work. One subscriber wanted to fit courtesy lights under each door of his car. Another wanted to fit a third braking light. Here I make it clear, after a simple introduction, how a Relay can be safely used to add additional circuits such as the ones mentioned and much more. Finally I’ll build and test a working example and relate this to the theory in an easy step by step approach.
If you’re new to relays, if you need to know how they work, if you want to unleash their practical applications on electrical circuits in your home and vehicle, then please watch now and enjoy.

Wire Splicing easily connecting cables with a soldering iron - by VOGMAN
Wire Splicing an EASY GUIDE. Permanently joining two or more wires with a soldering iron. Want to know how to securely splice two or more wires with a soldering iron? In this a subscriber requested video I’m going to be looking at splicing. I would define splicing as a means of permanently joining two or more electrical wires to enable uninterrupted current flow, and the emphasis has to be on ‘uninterrupted’ flow. That’s the key. That’s why I prefer to solder my spliced joints as I personally feel it’s the most reliable method of joining wires. I won’t be using off-the-shelf plastic connectors here. As a belt and braces kind of guy, I’ll be using my soldering iron, wire cutters, flux cored solder, a sharp blade and a few simple techniques that should enable anyone to achieve a good, solid, reliable electrical splice.
I'm no expert, just a keen amateur, but hopefully this how to guide will cover the basics nicely and enable you to safely splice with confidence.

SIMPLE Homemade Metal Melting Furnace (Foundry) for metal casting - by VOGMAN
A simple homemade Metal Foundry for casting metals at Home! Melt soda cans, recycle metal and cast in aluminium in your backyard. Use it as a mini forge...
Simple Oil Burner video
▶ https://bit.ly/3UZOPaF
Here I make a stable, high temperature home metal foundry to work alongside my waste oil burner, for melting and recycling various metals for other projects. Using dedicated dense, castable Refractory mix that’s capable of withstanding temperatures up to 1700 degrees Celcius (3092 Fahrenheit). This home metal foundry makes use of recycled materials, is easy to build, very affordable, is strong and stable and can easily be customised to suit your needs.
Most home made foundry designs use 50/50 sand and plaster of paris, but this mix is just too weak. It crumbles and disintegrates too easily and I got fed up of repairing mine. This dense refractory isn’t exactly concrete, but it’s MUCH harder than this 50/50 mix and should stand up to years of use, especially if supported in a firm containing frame as I’ve done here.
Once complete, the foundry is very heavy and not easily moved, so I mounted mine on castors for easy movement.
This build is inspired by Grant Thompson (King of Random) and Myfordboy. These are mentioned in this video and I would recommend viewing their tutorials. My thanks to them for their sterling work.

Piggyback Fuse Holders SAFE OR NOT? Auto electrics bench test - by VOGMAN
Piggyback Fuse Holders bench / safety test : I’m looking at the Piggyback Fuse Holder to determine if it’s safe to use. Can they be fitted the wrong way? Can they blow existing fuses? Do they draw an imbalance of current from original fuses? Must they never exceed a certain rating? These and other questions will be answered here as I perform a series of bench tests on this electrical component to test its suitability for safe vehicle use.
Piggyback Fuse Holders are commonly used in vehicles to add a circuit within the fusebox. But are they safe? People question if they are reliable or even dangerous. Probably the most commonly asked question is, can they be fitted the wrong way - and if so, what happens?
I've already added an instructional video to YouTube showing people how they can safely add a fused circuit to their vehicle using a piggyback fuse holder which you can see here -

But people still have concerns and questions and these I have tried my best to answer in this video.
SAFETY CONCERN - CIRCUIT OVERLOAD...
The purpose of this video is purely to test the functionality of the Piggyback and its suitability for purpose. One thing I don't cover well in this video is the safety concern that faces every electrical extension scenario and that's overloading. Just because you CAN add more outlets, whether domestically or in a vehicle, it doesn't follow that you should. It's possible to overload the original wiring, regardless of fuses. This can result in electrical fires...

ADJUSTABLE hot wire Foam Cutter - by VOGMAN
How to make homemade adjustable, self-tensioning electric Hot Wire polystyrene Foam cutter for lost foam casting, model making, cosplay, etc.
Cutting polystyrene foam is easy with a hot wire cutter. But the wire sags when it gets hot and it’s hard to get accurate, straight and nicely jointed edges.
Now hot wire foam cutters very popular on YouTube. It's a well covered topic and you SHOULD look at several videos to get a thorough understanding. However I've decided to share my ideas on how to make an adjustable, self-tensioning, accurate and reliable hot-wire foam cutter.
It's a simple build with basic tools that costs a fraction of cost of a store built cutter, and those you can't adjust!

Shed Door Droop Fix - by VOGMAN
Is your shed door droopy? Won’t your shed let you in? Do you struggle to open or bolt your shed door? This simple fix should help.
My shed wouldn't let me in this morning. I had to fight to draw the bolt back. I have the same problem when I shut it. The reason for this is because the door has actually sagged. The hinges have let out a little and are sagging. The wood that makes up the door, gravity has had its effect on that and it’s droopy and sagging.
Now I'm not going to replace the door. It’s perfectly good, plus the problem will happen again later on. So I'm going to fix the lateral brace. It's an easy job as you'll see here.
