Episode 52: A Novel Idea for Campus Unity with Jefferson Shupe
In this episode, we welcome Jefferson Shupe, author of the new YA novel, the Bathwater Brigade. Focusing on a college student’s journey through campus politics in the wake of a police shooting controversy, Bathwater Brigade explores the challenges and rewards of finding unity, and helping others find unity, in a time of hostility and division - something that might just be related to what we do here!
Throughout his conversation with UnityNow’s Kimberly Kolb Eakin, Shupe discusses his inspirations and motivations for writing the book, how the fictional Bathwater Brigade - a campus political unity group - resembles real-world efforts, and how his book has been embraced by young adults, children, and parents in search of a positive message. Finally, the two discuss lessons to be learned about what it takes to build common ground, and why it’s so important, both from the book’s titular Brigade and from Shupe’s writing journey.

Episode 51: Musical Bridges with Kuf Knotz and Christine Elise
In this brief interlude from our usual political fare, UnityNow's Toby Davis sits down with rapper Kuf Knotz and harpist Christine Elise, to discuss the pair's journey towards creating one of today's most unique, and unifying, musical experiences. Our guests share their origin stories, including Kuf's early days as an MC and Christine's life-changing Music Therapy study. The pair then discuss the ways they've defied expectations since joining forces, from performing in Alaska in the dark dead of winter, to showing up at a punk rock show and making unlikely fans out of the crowd. Finally, we bring it all back to the healing and unifying power of music - the way it brings us together and reaches us in ways the spoken word rarely can. Episode 49: Can We Still Talk About Censorship? with Heather Blakeslee and Cody Hill
In this episode, journalist Heather Blakeslee and former Facebook employee Cody Hill share their thoughts and perspectives for an important conversation on censorship. In the wake of UnityNow's own run-in with the Powers that Be, is the corporate suppression of deemed misinformation going too far? Is it a necessary tool for today’s incendiary political environment, or is it simply fanning the flames?
Moreover, what underlying actors and incentives are creating this problem to
begin with, and how much is the polarizing nature of social media to blame?
Throughout this free-flowing and nuanced conversation, Blakslee, Hill, and
UnityNow's Toby Davis explore what we can do to truly improve our situation, from investing in local journalism to rebuild the Fourth Estate, to pursuing and promoting more good faith conversations à la Braver Angels, to working to change the culture around how we have disagreements.

a conservative household, to winning a Democratic Congressional primary in her deep-red
district, to helping to lead the duopoly-breaking charge. All that, plus the results of her Eastern
