Chicks are 5 weeks old, this is their second day outside.

The chicks will be 5 weeks old on Saturday March 25 and are ready to get out of my office and into their own coop and run. When they get close to 8 weeks old I'll remove the divider to the main run and let all 13 chickens hang out together. I've built a few gates using scrap chain link fence rail and a bit of hardware, but I've run out of scrap rail and its currently $24 per 10 foot section at Lowes. I did the math and was looking at about $95 to buy the rail and hardware to make a 5 x 3.5 foot gate. This kit was $110 and 5 x 6 foot, so pretty much a no brainer to give it a shot. This build is very simple and the gate is well constructed. I would recommend this product even over my own DIY gate builds. You can find this at Lowes, Tractor Supply and on Amazon. I picked mine up at the local Lowes and had it built in about 30 minutes. Just a peek at the chicks, 2 more weeks til they head outside.

Chicks are 4 weeks old now. Bigger feeders mean less room for the camera, and these little dinosaurs just love pecking anything that enters their domain.

Got bigger feeders, so have to stick the phone in 'portrait mode' to be able to see the chicks. Will try to come up with a more elegant solution.

Got the raised beds filled with dirt, cost $45 per Cubic Yard, two truckloads of a yard each to get the 3 beds filled. Built another gate using an old Top Rail and some hardware from Lowes, did a bit of plumbing to install a hose bib on the back of the house so we can water the raised beds, and we got our first seeds planted in the Raised Bed This is the boring work thats gotta be done. This was filmed from Wednesday til Saturday, and is a bunch of snips poorly edited together. Honestly don't have the time to set up the camera to catch every move we make, if I did, we'd never get anything done. More to come in the coming weeks as the 2023 gardening season moves forward.
