In terms of theme Dragonflight has a more traditional fantasy style compared to the previous expansion Shadowlands as it’s set on the dragon isles and features familiar characters from the lore. For many people myself included the biggest appeal to returning to WoW for Dragonflight was the shift in design philosophy to make the game MUCH more alt friendly, no borrowed power systems, no mandatory legendaries, no AP grinds. Recently the game has just released it’s 4th expansion Secrets of the obscure which has come only 18 months since the previous expansion End Of Dragons. Secrets of the obscure brings with it two new aerial maps which you’ll explore on your skyscale mount which has new flight materials that you’ll unlock as you progress through the new content. You’ll face new enemies in the form of the Kryptis which are entering Tyria through reality rifts which players will need to seek out and close for rewards. I was obsessed with Lost Ark during its first 2 months of release and rated the game very highly, eventually though I fell out of the daily login routine then Amazon temporarily made it so you couldn’t connect to Lost Ark via a VPN which meant that for quite some time I couldn’t play the game due to my location. By the time they reallowed VPNs my addiction to the game had ended and I didn’t really feel an urge to jump back into the daily and weekly chores that made up a lot of Lost Arks endgame at the time. If you’ve never played Lost Ark before a quick TLDR would be that it has the best action combat out of any top down RPG out there, there’s a tonne of horizontal progression to work through, map completion, mounts, skins, storylines, the game has both PVP and PVE content although the PVE end game does seem to be the thing that players enjoy the most and the game is free to play, free to enjoy but you can definitely pay to win. At this point it’s been almost a year and a half since I played Lost Ark regularly and now I’m feeling the urge to revisit the game, see what’s changed and ultimately see if the game can make me want to stick around. V Rising was one of my favorite game releases of 2022 and as someone who typically doesn’t enjoy the whole vampire gothic theme I was surprised how much this game managed to make me completely obsessed with it, from the extremely well-polished ultra responsive combat system to the satisfying sense of progression and interesting boss fights I loved my time with V Rising last year…until the server I was playing on had a bug that reset progress every 24 hours and became unplayable forcing me to quit before I fully completed the game. To be honest I thought that was where my V Rising journey would end but recently the game dropped a new expansion called Gloomrot which has fundamentally changed many different aspects of the game. Initially I assumed Gloomrot was just something extra to do at end game, a new zone and new bosses but no, the quality of life, progression changes and improvements that this update brings touches every stage of progression in V Rising from the early levels all the way to the ultra late game. Palia is a casual community sim MMO made in unreal engine 4, the game was in development for 5 years and the way I’d describe it to my friends is it’s basically Stardew Valley but in third person and an MMORPG shared world. I’ve actually been looking forward to Palia for a while because as much as I do like slaughtering hordes of monsters in fast paced action combat games, sometimes I like to kick back, relax and play something chill that doesn’t require too much thinking. So what can you do in Palia? Well basically Build an instanced house on an expandable plot of land, do quests to uncover the story, build relationships with NPCs, mine rocks, chop trees, go fishing, catch bugs, craft stuff, hunt wildlife, pick plants and find treasure out in the world, unlike Stardew Valley though the game has no melee combat, the only combat you’re able to dish out is shooting wildlife with your bow, it’s impossible to die in this game and it’s extremely casual friendly. Additionally the content made around classic hardcore is also top tier, watching streamers or youtubers do this challenge is epic content because you want to see their reaction if they die or not, also watching Asmongolds reactions to the Hardcore compilations is extremely entertaining as with the power of hindsight you can try to understand what a player could have done differently to survive. So what is Hardcore? Basically No trading, no grouping in the open world, you can do each dungeon once only if you group with other hardcore characters, no bubble hearth for paladins, no asking for buffs or help, basically a self-reliant mode that for a long time has been enforced with the “Hardcore” addon and by playing on unofficial Hardcore servers. Now recently Blizzard have announced that there will be official hardcore servers coming soon which will have a few cool additions such as Duel to the as well as a few other differences from unofficial. For this series though I’ll be starting my first hardcore character on Unofficial servers because as someone connecting to Europe from South East Asia, I often get disconnected from playing WoW sometimes resulting in thankfully unofficial allows you to appeal disconnect and grief which is one of the reasons I’m kinda hesitant about playing Official hardcore, imagine getting to level 59, 150+ hours of grind only to die to a DC, that would hurt With all that said, let’s begin my adventure with Classic Hardcore, if we die, we go again.
