In this satisfying video, we do some sailing, but you get to see a lot of us making funny videos while stuck on the boat for over a week at anchor. You know what's awesome about being at anchor in for that long? There is no CNN, no MSNBC, no Fox News, no parties, no drama. It's just the two of us and the asmr sounds of the ocean and birds, Kate playing beautiful music as she is learning the guitar, and enjoying sunsets and nature. We have a smooth sail and show the checking in the process via MAYAG into Grenada. It was overall a good and motivational experience! (A note, now you need to use SailClear). Come along for the ride with us as we take our J/46 monohull sailboat on an around-the-world voyage. Who are we? We are Kate, Curtis, and Roxy the Dog. We are from Ohio/Michigan and we bought and re-fit our sailboat in Rhode Island. We set off almost two years ago, cruising the northeast, Maine, Bahamas, and the Caribbean and have been living off the grid since then. Our plan is to sail around the world via the great capes (Cape Horn and the Cape of Good Hope). We were lifelong young sailors and sailboat racers, but like many others, we were inspired by videos from the likes of Sailing La Vagabond, SV Delos, Gone with the Wynns, and many others. We don't have a fancy catamaran, but we think we have the perfect cruising sailboat. We wanted to pass the inspiration along. Hopefully, our videos motivate you to get out there and go sailing as well.

We make a mad dash between two storms, sailing fast for 400 miles in 2 days/nights through Venezuelan waters. Max winds of 38.4 knots, un-identified lights, big waves, and lots of fun! Our initial departure is rescheduled because of Tropical Storm Gonzolo and Hurricane Isaias. The direct bluewater route from St. Croix to Grenada takes us past a little-known island in Venezuelan waters where we encounter unknown lights and go into a high-security mode. Are they pirates of the Caribbean from Venezuela or hard-working fishermen? We don’t want to find out. At this time we really only have a few choices for hurricane season in the USVI. We can stay and have a higher chance of a direct hurricane hit, or we can go to Maine or Grenada, really the only two places open and safe(er). Grenada was closer to the southern ocean and South America, where we hope to go on our around-the-world voyage. We see large waves and a max wind speed of 38.4 knots as we barrel towards the blue-green waters and volcanic black sand beaches of St. Georges Grenada where 14 days of quarantine await us. Our top boat speed while double reefed and surfing storm waves was over 11 knots. About Us: So who are we? We finally find what we have been looking for as we sail the blue waters around St. Croix in the Virgin Islands. We are sending it (life is fun) to the max! #sailing #sail #sailinglife #ocean #sailboat #saillife Our last hurrah in STX before we make the long passage south and leave our friends for hurricane season in Grenada. To get there we sail from St. Thomas in a Sahara dust storm. With heavy winds, we sail with the genoa only and keep the mainsail in its stack pack to keep red dust from getting it dirty. We also check out a fort and take some cool video shots of Fredriksted and the pier with the DJI Mavic Pro drone. We spent time exploring the island by car (van life style road trip rental car off-roading) to get the view from the top. We fully immerse ourselves in the rain forest from its highest peak of 1160 ft and in the sea 100 feet below the water scuba diving. Your standard travel vlog youtube channel type stuff. We tour a massive 77-foot sailing YACHT, go for a sunset sail with new friends, and get chased by SHARKS! Kate catches drinking water in a rain storm. While cruising in St. Croix USVI our 20-year-old windlass finally has enough. Houston, we have a problem!
