High Shoals Falls and Blue Hole Falls GA The Short Tale! that wasn't..
High Shoals Creek and the thereon was supposed to be a Out There! Short Tale! but the place is so beautiful and such a good time I couldn't bring myself to cut much of the footage. The fun begins the moment you leave the main road 17/75. Just a few hundred yards on FS 283 all vehicles must ford a small river known as the Hiawassee.. This term has a different definition than it does in NC apparently.. Viewers from there will get the small versus large meaning of that one. A winding dirt forest road takes you about 1.4 miles into the High Shoals Scenic Area. A 170-acre area in the Brasstown Ranger District which features two waterfalls on an inaccessible stream High Shoals Creek. Once reaching the very small parking lot the 1.2-mile hike is all downhill! Which of course is good for getting TO the falls. After reaching a large campsite at the bottom of the hill you will need to cross the creek itself. There once was a bridge that you will see remnants of in the video but as of this publication is destroyed and makeshifted to cross the creek carefully without getting your boots soaked before you get to the good stuff anyway... An old roadbed leads the short way to the One mile mark and the first fall Blue Hole. There is a sheer 15 ft drop into a deep plunge pool here. Rhododendron and laurel perfectly frame this drop and pool for a relaxing chill spot or swimming. This channel does NOT recommend climbing the rocks of falls. That and the rope hanging in the trees is AT YOUR OWN RISK. There have been deaths that have occurred here and many other falls from misadventurers so please take caution.
Continuing down the trail for the last half mile or so leads through switchbacks and downhill again to the observation deck at High Shoals Falls. The two falls couldn't be any more different. As Blue Hole Falls is symmetrical typical cascade into a picturesque pool. High Shoals is a confusing tumble of broken channels and streams pouring over the rough edges of the rocky fall. Water here sprays in all kinds of directions. More than beautiful and you will have to get Out There! yourself to behold it. The several hundred feet in elevation change on the way out is where the path goes from easy to moderate real quick and in a hurry. If your shoes are wet on the way out you may surely regret the climb itself. But we here at Out There! assure you it is well worth the small amount of pain of a blister for a short time for a memory that will last forever.
Remember the rocks on the falls are hard and unforgiving. They don't give freebies or second chances. And in this terrain it will be very difficult to get a human to treatment. We here at Out There! will keep our opinions to ourselves about climbing waterfalls. But we can not recommend it. We do however recommend you getting out there. Learning your abilities and enjoying the nature your Creator has provided for you.
We will see yall.....--

Trahlyta Falls at Vogel State Park - Out There! Short Tales!
At the base of Blood and Slaughter Mountains in Northeastern Georgia lays one of Georgia's oldest parks. Vogel State Park. A 233-acre park with a 22 acre Lake built-in 1933 by the Civilian Conservation Corps. The park lays at an elevation of 2500 feet. But that isn't what this video is about... The lake named Trahlyta Lake created by an earthen dam at its Western end named after a Cherokee woman the story goes creates a falls as it empties into Wolf Creek known as Trahlyta Falls. A 40-foot cascading fall with an observation deck so close to the falls its hard to get a good picture. The black moss on the spillway is extremely slippery. Enjoy the scenery and be careful around the falls. The hike is an easy 1 mile loop around the lake. The park offers a multitude of activities that we here at Out There! may very well visit again in the future but this...

Accidental Tresspassing - an Out There! Short Tale! (only on Rumble!)
Finally Rumble gets some love with their very own Short Tale! Premiere from Out There!! Yes technically we were kind of trespassing but to our defense the gate was open it was dark and if there was a sign on the side that Out There! entered the swinging bridge then it was not seen until we already filmed and we sure ain't wasting all this footage. So the location will remain unpublished even though you can read it in the video if you try hard enough because we don't want to encourage folks to 'break any laws'. But this is the best footage we will be able to get because apparently no you are not supposed to cross that bridge unless you are an employee... Somebody may want to tell them to close the gate or fix the sign... But anyway... Here is some love Rumble! Your very first exclusive Premier... Enjoy!

Fontana Dam, NC - Out There! Premier
Fontana Dam is a 2,365 ft long 480 ft tall hydroelectric dam located in Swain and Graham Counties North Carolina. It was built in the 140s by the TVA to accommodate raising electric demands of the Tennessee Valley during World War 2. It is the tallest dam in the Eastern United States and at the time of its construction the 4th tallest in the world. It impounds the deepest lake in North Carolina the 10,230 acre Fontana Lake. Which is located along the southwestern boundary of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park. The Appalachian Trail crosses the top of the dam. It is the uppermost of five dams along the Little Tennessee River. A 135 mile river that runs from the mountains of Georgia and empties into the Tennessee River. The dams construction costs over 70 Million dollars displaced 1,311 families, deforested 5,125 acres of land, moved 1,047 graves, and over 60 miles of roads were relocated or lost. But it’s three generators produce 293 megawatts of power. Fontana Lake has 238 miles of shoreline and 10,230 acres of water surface and in some places is over 400 feet deep. It deserves it’s own video we will get to that maybe in the spring.

Old School -Out There! - circa 2010
Out There! has came a long way in 10 years. No the Channel hasn't been a Channel for that long. In fact the YouTube Channel was only started about 4 years ago. But we have been filming nature for a very long time. This footage of the great outdoors was created in 2010. It is filmed in 320x240!! Today's Out There! features all HD videos natively filmed in 1920x1080 usually at 30 fps. Some shots are in 60 frames per second and the photos are usually shot in 4608x2592 this is how we have such fantastic videos and photos! We recently also added a GoPro Hero to capture the trails and hopefully eliminate some of the shakiness of the 'professional' photographer behind the camera... That was a joke. But we hope that you will join this adventure with us! We have over 70 videos to bring to Rumble! And more videos are released every few weeks. They increase in the Spring and Summer when the color comes back. So subscribe today so you don't miss a video and we will see you all....

Black Balsam Knob – Blue Ridge Parkway
Black Balsam Knob or Black Balsam Bald is an area in the Pisgah National Forest at the 420 mile marker on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Part of the ‘Great Balsam Mountains’ it stands as the second tallest at 6,214 ft and 23rd highest of the 40 mountains in North Carolina over 6000 feet. Some of the most beautiful panoramic views can be seen since almost completely devoid of trees above the 6,000 foot mark. A hike along the trail between Black Balsam Knob, Sam Knob and Tennent Mountain offers 3 miles without ever dropping back into the trees. Visible peaks from the Knob include Shining Rock 3 miles away, Looking Glass Rock at 5 miles, Cold Mountain at 6, Mt. Pisgah at 9, and on extremely clear days (Great Smoking Mountains warning…) Mt. Mitchell the highest point in the Eastern USA at 45 miles away! With many hiking options and only .5 miles to the first balds this is one of the most superb hiking areas you’ll find along the Blue Ridge Parkway. Since most of the trails are unprotected by trees you fair skinned folks may want to bring sunscreen along. And if you over heat too much three miles north is a swimming hole named ‘Skinny Dip Falls’ no don’t skinny dip for crine out loud.
This is the top of the Knob above the campsite and no farther. You all have plenty of knobs to explore soo....

Dry Falls NC - Out There! Short Tales!
Sometimes on the way to premier locations we find stops along the way. In the mountains this can range from random overlooks beside highways that lead to waterfalls or hiking trails like the Appalachian Trail. Or the overlooks themselves here are just breathtaking. But you can only get so much film and photos in these small locations. These usually become Out There! Short Tales!. These are smaller videos that our audience seems to like a lot more than the 20 mins videos so it works out pretty well. This is one of our first... It may be the first. Short Tales! on the Out There! Channel.. We hope you enjoy and the original description can be found below. Make sure you subscribe so you don't miss the hours of nature footage we have coming your way!!
-Out There!
In the Nantahala National Forest. Off Hwy 64 near Highlands, NC less than one mile from Bridal Veil Falls (yeah the falls from the movie 'The Last of The Mohicans') is an 80 ft waterfall along the Cullasaja River called 'Dry Falls'. Named such because of the space behind the falls where you are able to view the cascading water without getting wet! 40 feet of the falls is free-falling and it is a part of a series of falls down this river including 'Bust Your Butt Falls' which is featured in this video as well. During a good rain spell you can't stay too dry behind the falls and in the winter ice forms along the sides of the falls. And as usual, during fall in the mountains the changing of the leaves adds to the beauty of the falls. The walkway down is fully paved and the parking area is located just off the highway. (nobody seems to mention the pay fee for use by the National Forest....) But it is a beautiful fall and well worth a visit plus as you can see in the video there is a popular swimming hole just a few mins drive down from Dry Falls. There are always more popular and less popular falls to swim in here in the mountains depending on what you are looking for.
This series called 'Out There! Short Tales' hopes to get more footage from falls such as this and shorter hikes here in the mountains.. So look forward to more 'Short Tales' if that is the kind of thing you are looking for. Hope to see your subscription today!
