'A Decision Was Made ' Biden Faces the Fallout for His Chaotic Retreat in Afghanistan
It was the first time Joe Biden had witnessed dead Americans returning home from a foreign battlefield as President and Commander in Chief. The bodies of 11 Marines, a Navy medic and an Army staff sergeant arrived on U.S. soil on Sunday, Aug. 29, all killed in a suicide bombing at the Kabul airport on Aug. 26 amid America’s chaotic exit from Afghanistan after 20 years of war. For 35 minutes, as the flag-draped cases were carried down the ramp of an Air Force C-17 cargo plane at Dover Air Force Base, in silence except for the hum of aircraft engines and muted troop commands, Biden stood in front of the cold reality of his decisions.

"MY BODY, MY CHOICE" IN THE AGE OF MANDATES
Employees of Wyoming County Community Health System, along with participants from other locations and retired nurses, spoke out over the weekend against the mandatory COVID-19 vaccines the state has mandated for healthcare workers and volunteers statewide.
On Monday, the hospital’s chief executive officer said WCCHS has been corresponding internally with its staff and providing updated information.
Among the WCCHS workers lined up along North Main Street, across from the hospital Saturday, were Tina Burton and Lida Sperry.
Burton, a licensed practical nurse, said the rally was not a rally against the hospital.
“The hospital’s hands are tied. They can only do what the state says they have to do,” said Burton. “This is against the mandate. This is my body, my choice.”
Sperry, a certified nursing assistant, said this is a deeper issue than what the rally participants were there for Saturday.
“It’s the basic principle, that they’re trying to take away our basic constitutional freedoms. If that doesn’t outrage the public, no matter what side you’re on, there’s something wrong,” she said.

‘We have failed that no-fail mission,’ administration official says as evacuation ends; Afghans left behind also feel betrayed by US and allies
Despite US President Joe Biden calling the American evacuation from Kabul an “extraordinary success,” officials in his administration were appalled that US forces left with several hundred Americans still in Afghanistan, now under Taliban rule.
“I am absolutely appalled and literally horrified we left Americans there,” one administration official told the Politico news site.
Biden on Tuesday appeared to say that those who remained did so out of their own free will and could leave in the future.
“The bottom line: 90 percent of Americans in Afghanistan who wanted to leave were able to leave. For those remaining Americans, there is no deadline. We remain committed to get them out, if they want to come out,” Biden said.
He contended 100 to 200 Americans are still there and have “some intention to leave,” adding: “Most of those who remain are dual citizens, longtime residents, but earlier decided to stay because of their family roots in Afghanistan.”

Longest War’s Cost Thousands Of Lives, Trillions Of Dollars
Longest War’s Cost Thousands Of Lives, Trillions Of Dollars
U.S. military planes have carried the last U.S. service members and diplomats from Kabul’s airport, ending America’s longest war. Ordinary Americans closely watched the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan, as they did the start of the war nearly 20 years ago, in the weeks after the 9/11 attacks. But Americans often tended to forget about the Afghanistan war in between, and it received measurably less oversight from Congress than the Vietnam War did. But its death toll for Afghans and Americans and their NATO allies is in the many tens of thousands. And because the U.S. borrowed most of the money to pay for it, generations of Americans to come will be paying off its cost, in the trillions of dollars.
A look at the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan, by the numbers, as the last Americans deployed there departed.
Much of the data below is from Linda Bilmes of Harvard University’s Kennedy School and from the Brown University Costs of War project. Because the United States between 2003 and 2011 fought the Afghanistan and Iraq wars simultaneously, and many American troops served tours in both wars, some figures as noted cover both post-9/11 U.S. wars.

Biden Admin's Complete Incompetence
Biden Admin's Complete Incompetence
THE family of a Marine killed in the Kabul blast are "disgusted" at the "incompetent" Biden administration and said no US troops needed to die.
Rylee McCollum, 20, one of the marines who was killed in the ISIS-K attack on Thursday, was a newlywed whose wife will give birth to their first child in just weeks.
His sister, Roice McCollum, told The Sun exclusively that her family believes the entire tragedy, which took the lives of 13 US service members, was avoidable.
"As far as Biden goes we are truly disgusted with the administration and how they handled the entire thing," she said.
"It was avoidable and none of those Marines needed to be put in that situation. It was incompetent."
She went on to describe her hero brother as an "amazing man" who always wanted to join the military.
"He wanted to be a marine his whole life and carried around his rifle in his diapers and cowboy boots," she said.
"He was determined to be in the infantry and this was his first deployment."

Biden Abandons Promise To Rescue All American
Biden Abandons Promise To Rescue All American
This past week, the entire world has been forced to question whether we can trust President Biden’s words. Whether it was his July assessment that a Taliban takeover is "highly unlikely," his flat-out false claim that al Qaeda is "gone" from Afghanistan, or his inexplicable assurances that Americans were not having "trouble" traveling through Taliban checkpoints, the president has been contradictory, evasive and not in command of basic facts.
The tragic suicide bombing Thursday at Kabul's airport in Afghanistan that killed our service members and left an untold number of casualties makes it clear the deadly consequences of this catastrophic failure. (A second explosion took place at the nearby Baron Hotel, where Americans have gathered in the past for rescue and evacuation, the Pentagon confirmed.)
Despite attempts to the contrary, no amount of spin from the White House can hide the unacceptable and outrageous reality that their decisions have put the lives of thousands of Americans at the mercy of the Taliban and other terrorist groups.

Rockets Fired at Kabul Airport but US Flights Continue
Rockets Fired at Kabul Airport but US Flights Continue
Rocket fire apparently targeting Kabul's international airport struck a nearby neighborhood on Monday, the eve of the deadline for U.S. troops to withdraw from Afghanistan after 20 years of war. The Islamic State group claimed the attack, and there were no immediate reports of casualties.
The rockets did not halt the steady stream of U.S. military C-17 cargo jets taking off and landing at the airport. Afghanistan's IS affiliate launched a devastating suicide bombing Thursday at one of the airport gates that killed at least 169 Afghans and 13 U.S. service members.
The extremist group is far more radical than the Taliban, who seized power in Afghanistan earlier this month after capturing most of Afghanistan in a matter of days. The two groups have fought each other in the past, and the Taliban have pledged to not harbor terrorist groups.
The Taliban tightened their security cordon around the airfield after the attack, clearing away massive crowds of Afghans who were desperate to flee the country in the waning days of the U.S.-led airlift. Taliban fighters are now stationed along a fence near the main runway.

BIDEN REFUSES TO TALK ABOUT AFGHANISTAN AT FEMA
BIDEN REFUSES TO TALK ABOUT AFGHANISTAN AT FEMA
President Biden blew off a question about Afghanistan after offering to take questions at the Federal Emergency Management Agency headquarters in Washington on Sunday.
Biden was at FEMA to address the response to Hurricane Ida, which strengthened to a Category 4 before making landfall in Louisiana earlier Sunday.
BLINKEN WAS VACATIONING IN THE HAMPTONS HOURS BEFORE KABUL FELL
"I’m not supposed to take any questions but go ahead," Biden told Bloomberg News reporter Jennifer Jacobs.
Jacobs began, "Mr. President, on Afghanistan—"
"I’m not gonna answer on Afghanistan now," Biden interjected before walking away from the podium.
The Republican National Committee slammed the exchange, which came three days after ISIS-K terrorists attacked the airport in Kabul, killing 13 U.S. service members and more than 170 Afghans.
Biden has faced widespread criticism over his execution of the U.S. military withdrawal in Afghanistan and his actions during and after the collapse of Kabul, which completed the Taliban’s retaking of the country 20 years after their ouster by U.S.-led forces. The president has repeatedly defended his plan while hundreds of U.S. citizens and tens of thousands of Afghan allies and Afghans vulnerable to Taliban reprisal remain stranded in the country.
Just last month, Biden assured Americans that a Taliban takeover of Afghanistan was not likely and that he trusted "the capacity of the Afghan military." The president largely avoided cameras during the Aug. 15 collapse of Kabul, watching it unfold from the Camp David presidential retreat in Maryland.
Three days after the Kabul collapse, Biden was fiercely criticized after he gave public remarks about COVID-19 and failed to address the crisis in Afghanistan or take any questions. On Tuesday, his remarks from the White House were delayed more than four hours after being rescheduled twice, and the U.S. evacuation effort in Afghanistan was the last topic he addressed after touting his Build Back Better agenda.

BIDEN MET WITH SOME OF FAMILIES OF FALLEN TROOPS
BIDEN MET WITH SOME OF FAMILIES OF FALLEN TROOPS
resident Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden traveled Sunday to Dover Air Force Base to view the dignified transfer of the remains of the U.S. service members killed in Kabul last week.
A dignified transfer is a solemn process in which the remains of fallen service members are carried from an aircraft to an awaiting vehicle. A dignified transfer is conducted for every U.S. service member killed in action.
The Pentagon on Saturday released the names of the 13 U.S. service members killed as the result of a suicide bomber attack while conducting a humanitarian evacuation mission in Afghanistan. The remains were flown from Kabul to Kuwait and then to Germany before arriving in Dover.
The president and first lady met privately with the families of the fallen before observing the movement of the American flag-draped cases from a C-17 military cargo plane to a vehicle.
Sunday’s solemn movement marks Biden’s first time attending a dignified transfer since becoming president.

Biden Facing Fierce Criticism Over Terror Attract
Biden Facing Fierce Criticism Over Terror Attract
America's longest war is ending as it began, with the nation mourning the dead of a terrorist attack and an outraged President vowing to hunt down the culprits in Afghanistan.
The bloody coda to a tortured 20 years -- the loss of 13 US troops and at least 90 Afghans in blasts outside Kabul's airport on Thursday -- exemplified the human tragedy and ultimate futility of a conflict that failed in its core purpose: purging Afghan soil of terrorism. In a cruel irony, the latest Americans to die perished in an attack conceived in the very same land as the al Qaeda assault on September 11, 2001, that triggered the war they were trying to leave.
The atrocity -- believed to have been carried out by the Islamic State affiliate known as ISIS-K -- rocked the final stages of the frantic US evacuation of as many as 1,000 Americans who may still be in the country, as well as thousands of Afghans who helped US forces and officials and fear Taliban executions if they are left behind. Approximately 12,500 people were evacuated from Afghanistan in the latest 24-hour period, according to the White House.
It also shone a harsh light on President Joe Biden's decision-making and the chaotic nature of the US withdrawal that left American troops and civilians so vulnerable, in the confusing, chaotic days after the Taliban seized Kabul.
The most alarming realization in the aftermath of the carnage was that there may be more to come before the deadline for the US to leave for good on Tuesday.

Airlift Evacuation Winding Down On Kabul
Airlift Evacuation Winding Down On Kabul
Anxious crowds of Afghans still hoping to join the western evacuation airlift from Kabul have crowded airport gates less than a day after scores were killed in a devastating Islamic State suicide bombing.
As flights from Afghanistan resumed with fresh urgency on Friday, amid fears that the Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) affiliate could attack again, more countries announced they had completed their evacuations with only days to go before the deadline for withdrawal by US-led troops.
With a Pentagon reporting continuing specific credible threats at the airport, they added that several countries appeared to be willing to work with the Taliban after the evacuation concludes to keep the airport open.
The UN security council joined international statements of condemnation of the Kabul airport bombings, describing it as “especially abhorrent” for deliberately targeting civilians and personnel assisting in the evacuation.
Thursday’s bombings near the airport killed at least 95 Afghans and 13 US troops, Afghan and US officials said, in the deadliest day for American forces in Afghanistan since August 2011.
Among the dead, the Foreign Office announced on Friday, were two British nationals and the child of another British national. The Pentagon said it appeared a single bomber who had caused the carnage at one of the airport gates rather than two as originally reported.
Amid warnings from UN agencies of an emerging “catastrophic” humanitarian situation, officials said they were planning for a “worst-case scenario” that would displace more than 500,000 across the country’s borders.
While the US has said more than 105,000 people have been safely evacuated from Kabul, as many as 1,000 US citizens and tens of
thousands more Afghans are struggling to leave in one of the largest airlifts in history.
Sweden was among the countries ending their evacuation missions on Friday, the foreign minister, Ann Linde, announced.
“All in all, some 1,100 people have been evacuated by the foreign ministry. All locally employed embassy staff and their families have been evacuated,” Linde told a news conference.
The UK’s evacuation efforts were also expected to end on Friday, while the last German civilian plane carrying Afghans fleeing Taliban rule landed in Frankfurt on Friday.
With an end to the often chaotic airlift imminent, Afghans continued to arrive at the airport, even as countries shut down their visa processing.
The scenes at the airport, with people standing knee-deep in sewage and families thrusting documents and even young children toward US troops behind razor wire, have horrified many around the world as efforts continued to help people escape.
Jamshad, who gave just his one name, arrived early on Friday with his wife and three small children, clutching an invitation to a western country he did not want to name.
This was his first attempt to leave, he said: “After the explosion, I decided I would try because I am afraid now there will be more attacks and I think now I have to leave.”
Another man, Ahmadullah Herawi, said: “Believe me, I think that an explosion will happen any second or minute, God is my witness, but we have lots of challenges in our lives. That is why we take the risk to come here and we overcome fear.”
As the evacuation began to wind down, the head of US Central Command, GenFrank McKenzie, said further attempted attacks were expected.
Joe Biden has vowed to complete the evacuation of US citizens and others from Afghanistan despite the deadly attack at the airport.

SCOTUS REINSTATES TRUMP'S REMAIN IN MEXICO' POLICY
SCOTUS REINSTATES TRUMP'S REMAIN IN MEXICO' POLICY
The Supreme Court on Tuesday reinstated a Trump-era policy that requires asylum applicants to wait in Mexico while their claims are evaluated by U.S. authorities. The three liberal justices dissented.
President Biden canceled the Trump administration Migrant Protection Protocols, commonly called the Remain in Mexico policy, responding to criticism that it forced vulnerable migrants to wait out their cases in violent border cities. Lower courts found the administration failed to follow proper procedures in ending the policy and that the alternative of paroling into the U.S. asylum applicants en masse may violate federal law.
The Biden administration asked the Supreme Court to let it cancel Remain in Mexico while it appealed, but in a brief order Tuesday evening, the justices said the government was unlikely to prevail.
The administration “failed to show a likelihood of success on the claim that the memorandum rescinding the Migrant Protection Protocols was not arbitrary and capricious,” the unsigned order said. Justices Stephen Breyer, Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan indicated they would have granted the government’s application.

Biden GOVT Urges American Outiside Airport To Leave
The U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan warned Americans trapped in the country not to travel to the Kabul airport due to security threats, and urged those at specific airport gates to get out immediately, in a startling statement early Thursday.
"Because of security threats outside the gates of Kabul airport, we are advising U.S. citizens to avoid traveling to the airport and to avoid airport gates at this time unless you receive individual instructions from a U.S. government representative to do so," the statement from the embassy read.
"U.S. citizens who are at the Abbey Gate, East Gate, or North Gate now should leave immediately," the embassy added.

'We are stranded' US mother trapped in Afghanistan makes emotional plea to Biden for help
'We are stranded' US mother trapped in Afghanistan makes emotional plea to Biden for help
A mother from the United States who is trapped in Afghanistan amid the U.S. troop withdrawal made an emotional plea for President Joe Biden to help her return to her children as the situation around Kabul becomes increasingly violent.
The woman, who has two children in the U.S. and went by the pseudonym of "Fatima" for her safety, thanked Republican Rep. Carol Miller and her team for being "my only strength" and communicating with her to find a solution to return her to the U.S.
"We are in danger. We are in danger, Mr. President. Please help us," the woman said during a Tuesday morning appearance on Fox & Friends First, adding, "Yes, we are stranded."
