Molasses Cake - Old timey, 100-year-old recipe from the Home Comfort Wood Stove Cookbook!
This Molasses Cake recipe was published in my great-grandmother's "Home Comfort Wood Stove Cook Book." The company started producing wood stoves before the end of the Civil War. This copy of the cookbook comes from the early 1930s, but no doubt, this recipe goes back to the 1800s. Molasses Cake is a very old, traditional southern dessert. I've tried other Molasses Cake recipes but I love the flavor of this one. The baking instructions were written for a wood stove so you'll have to determine the best time and temperature for your liking, but I'll publish the recipe below exactly as it was printed in the cookbook.

⚠️ Also, I noticed while typing up this recipe that I read the baking time wrong! I baked this too long anyway. Even 40 minutes would've been enough by this recipe. I thought it had said 45-55 minutes. 🤦🏻♀️ Still, in the future, I'll start checking this at around the 30 minute mark for doneness.
INGREDIENTS
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup milk
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking
powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon mixed spices
1 egg
INSTRUCTIONS
Cream butter, and gradually cream in
the sugar; add molasses and beaten egg and mix; sift and measure flour, add baking
powder, salt, soda and spices, and re-sift
together; add flour and milk alternately and
mix well; bake in well greased shallow pan
in a moderate oven-baking time about 40
to 45 minutes. Serve while yet warm. Ice
if desired.

Easy No Egg Muffin Recipe - Banana muffin base is versatile & can be used for all kinds of muffins!
This no-egg muffin recipe is so versatile! It starts with ripe bananas. I added in shredded coconut, but you can add in whatever you want: diced peaches, apples, raisins, toasted chopped pecans, chocolate chips, you name it!
I wanted to keep the ingredients super simple so here's what I came up with:
2 - 3 ripe bananas
1/2 cup butter
2 cups self-rising flour
1/2 cup milk
~1 cup brown sugar (or white sugar, or white sugar + a spoonful of molasses), use more or less to taste
1 tsp vanilla
Dash of nutmeg (optional)
Dash of cinnamon (optional)
Mix ingredients then spoon batter into greased muffin tin for muffins or into a loaf pan if you want to make it into a sweet bread.
Here's how I make my own vanilla extract: https://www.oldtimeknowledge.com/make-your-own-vanilla-extract/
Here's how you can make self-rising flour from all purpose flour: For every cup of all purpose flour, add 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon table salt.

Quick & Easy Toffee Recipe - Few ingredients & SO delicious! Great idea for Valentine's Day! ❤️
Learn how to make easy homemade toffee!
This was supposed to get posted before Christmas, but this is good any time of year. It might be a very good idea for Valentine's Day! You'll need a candy thermometer for this one, but it's so worth it!
INGREDIENTS
1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup chocolate chips
Crushed pecans (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment or wax paper and grease it with butter. Set aside until toffee is ready to pour.
2. Melt butter, sugar, and salt in saucepan stirring constantly until butter is melted.
3. Bring mixture to a boil then stop stirring (except maybe a few times) and keep it boiling until candy thermometer reaches ~285-290º.
4. As soon as toffee mixture reaches the right temperature, pour in greased baking sheet.
5. Sprinkle chocolate chips all over hot toffee and let it sit for a few moments until it softens. Once it softens, spread melty chocolate chips around toffee until surface is covered.
6. If desired, add crushed nuts on some or all of the chocolate layer. (I like to do half with and half without.)
7. Place pan in fridge for about an hour until it sets and then it take out and either break into pieces or use a sturdy knife to score toffee and cut into squares.
Enjoy!

Bacon Cheese Crackers 🎄 Christmas Appetizer - EASY! Bake crackers wrapped in bacon @ 250º for 2 hrs
These bacon cheese crackers are an easy Christmas Appetizer. You can make these ahead and reheat them for about 15 minutes before serving. All you're doing is putting a little bit of cheese on a Club cracker (or your favorite cracker) and wrapping it with half a slice of bacon and baking in a 250º oven for ABOUT 2 HOURS. Keep an eye on them. You can adjust as needed, but definitely do not go over 2 hours.

*THE BEST SAUSAGE BALLS* Old, hidden recipe card reveals beloved family recipe! Easy Appetizer! 🎄😋
This is an easy Christmas appetizer, ideal make-ahead food for the holidays. I published a sausage ball recipe a couple of years ago and it is one I've been using for probably close to 10 years, but I recently found a stack of recipe cards that were given to me by family members DECADES ago. I was in my early 20s and I'm in my late 40s now, so we're talking almost 30 years ago. This particular recipe came from my Aunt Belle and I was a little skeptical since it uses less cheese and more Bisquick, but her sausage balls always were delicious so I didn't hesitate to give it a try.
THESE ARE IT, Y'ALL! These are so good! Way better than that other sausage ball recipe, and that other one was also delicious! These add paprika (and I added in some cayenne, even though it wasn't in the recipe.)
If you want, you can add more cheese, more sausage, or less bisquick, but I think adding in the teaspoon of paprika and not using that full pound of cheese really makes for a better sausage ball.
INGREDIENTS
1 lb sausage, mild or hot
10 oz grated cheese (in this video, I'm using an 8 oz block that I grated, so not quite 10 oz.)
3 cups Bisquick (I'm using Great Value brand since Walmart was out of Bisquick)
1 tsp. paprika
I also added a few shakes of cayenne.
If you need to add in some water to bring everything together, you can do that, but probably no more than about 1/4 cup.
Once it's all mixed together, form into little balls and bake in 350º oven for about 10-12 minutes. Enjoy!

Tiny Biscuits!🎄 Easy Christmas appetizers (Hors d'oeuvres) Perfect & Tasty Holiday Party Food!
We love these miniature biscuits as easy Christmas appetizers, or anytime really! These make-ahead hors d'oeuvres are also great for baby or bridal showers, parties, or any kind of get together. You can fill them with ham (as shown in this video), sausage, cheese, or offer a variety of jams and jellies and let your guests decide how to fill them.
The ingredients for the biscuits are so simple:
2 cups self-rising flour (I prefer Daily Bread brand)
5 Tbsp. butter, grated into flour
3/4 cup milk
Mix ingredients well and roll out dough. Cut out small biscuits with biscuit cutters (I'm using 2" biscuit cutters in this video.)
Bake in 475º oven for about 10 minutes or until tops are brown. Start looking at them at around the 8 or 9 minute mark.

OLD FASHIONED OATMEAL COOKIES 👵🏻
INGREDIENTS
1 cup butter
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup water
1 1/2 cup flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking soda
3 cups oatmeal
INSTRUCTIONS
For best results, wrap cookie dough in rolls in sheets of wax paper and refrigerate for a few hours before baking.
Bake ~12 to 13 minutes (or longer, if necessary) in a 350º oven. If you have refrigerated them first, they should start to brown around that time. At that point you can decide how done you want them before you pull them out of the oven. Get a nice glass of milk, a plate of warm cookies, and enjoy!

3. Add in marshmallows and mix them in.

How to make Cranberry Jello Salad - A great side dish recipe for Thanksgiving, Christmas or any time
My Aunt Betty's Cranberry Jello Salad recipe is delicious! You can enjoy this for the holidays, or anytime of year. She usually makes this with sugar free Jello, but you could use sugar free or regular. Just use a small box for this particular recipe and just double the other ingredients if you use a larger box of Jello.
INGREDIENTS
1 can whole cranberry sauce
1 small box strawberry or cherry Jell-O (regular or sugar free)
1 cup hot water
1/3 cup finely chopped celery
1/4 cup toasted chopped pecans
Orange zest (optional)
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Boil one cup of water then remove water from heat and add Jell-O packet to mix until it's dissolved.
2. Add in can of whole cranberries, chopped celery and pecans, and if desired, some orange zest.
3. Refrigerate until set - at least a few hours, though I usually refrigerate this over night.
4. Enjoy!

BUTTERSCOTCH PIE - This is so AMAZING! 😍 Perfect dessert for Thanksgiving or Christmas - Delicious!
This Butterscotch Pie recipe comes from Taste of Home magazine. I had never even tried butterscotch pie before, much less made it, but when I came across this recipe I knew I had to try it. I ADORE BUTTERSCOTCH! You can't find it anymore. I used to love to get Butterscotch Milkshakes from Baskin Robins but then they did away with the butterscotch syrup. Butterscotch used to be available all over the place but then the confectionary powers that be ruined it by ditching butterscotch for "salted caramel", which, let's face it, is just a poor excuse for butterscotch.
Anyway, here is the original recipe at Taste of Home magazine: https://www.tasteofhome.com/recipes/butterscotch-pie/
Here is how I make my own homemade vanilla. WAY more cost effective than buying it in those little bottles. https://www.oldtimeknowledge.com/make-your-own-vanilla-extract/

Pickled Jalapeño Slices! EASY & DELICIOUS! Water bath method in steam canner. Super fast to make!
These pickled jalapeño slices are so great to have in the pantry! I use these for picadillo, scrambled eggs, salsa, fajitas, and so much more!
Super easy to make.
Combine these ingredients and bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes to make brine:
• 5 cups white vinegar
•1 cup water
•4 tsp non-iodized or canning salt
•2 Tbsp sugar
Fill jars with jalapeño slices (or leave them whole and just cut slits on each side so the brine can get inside) and then add brine up to 1/2" headspace.
Process at the following times depending on your altitude:
0 - 1,000 ft / 10 minutes
1,001 - 6,000 ft / 15 minutes
6,001 ft + / 20 minutes

SCARY OLD RECIPES - Party Sandwich Loaf (1965) ~ Surprising 1960s dish for entertaining!
This scary vintage recipe, "Party Sandwich Loaf" is from 1965. A culinary masterpiece like this probably would've been the sort of thing served at baby showers or bridal showers or maybe even a cocktail party. At first glance, the picture looks like some kind of old school, 1960s style layer cake, but then you realize the layers are made from white bread and the fillings are each made from things that don't seem to belong together —all frosted with a green-tinted "cream cheese frosting."
