I Got Lost In Louisiana For A Week. This Is What I Saw.
Please Follow this Channel.
Oh my gosh! You never know what you'll see when you get back into the Louisiana backroads.
If you’ve ever been to Louisiana, you probably went to New Orleans, got drunk, got back on your plane and left. If you did that, you missed out on a whole lotta stuff.
When I first got to Louisiana, of course I did that New Orleans thing. But only for a couple days. Then, I took off and headed up through cajun country, into the woods, over the river, past all the farmland and Shreveport and into Arkansas. The whole trip took 5 days.
And boy did I see a lot. And they sure were nice days for Louisiana backroadin. Partly cloudy and 75 degrees in the springtime.

Nobody Knows About This Tiny North Carolina Island
Please Follow this Channel.
This might be the most charming island on the East Coast!
A lot of people are moving to North Carolina these days. I live here, and I can tell you that it’s simply a fantastic state. Oh we have problems - there’s poverty and crime here just like anywhere else. But it’s an average cost of living, average weather, average politics and just…nice.
Part of the charm of North Carolina is the coast. There really is no coast like it. The water’s warm and there are long stretches of clean white sandy beaches that are really isolated.
In this video, we’re going to do a short tour of a neat little island in southeastern North Carolina. It’s called Pleasure Island and it’s located right off the coast, across a bridge from Wilmington.
The day of the short tour was in early February of 2022. It was a nice day for a drive - the sun was out and it was in the high 50s. While it wasn’t warm, it was certainly a far nicer day than it was in much of the country.
This island wasn’t always an island. Up until 1929, this whole land mass was connected to the mainland. In order to connect the intracoastal waterway to the Cape Fear River and thus, connect the river waterway to the southern US, the Army Corp of Engineers cut a 1.7 mile long stretch of land out of the earth. After that waterway was cut, this became a barrier island. As you can see, the island is about 17 miles long, and features an unbroken strand of sandy beach from end to end. There’s really no place like it.
We’re going to begin here at the end of the island and drive north. We’ll visit Fort Fisher, Kure Beach and Carolina Beach taking the main road one block off the ocean. And by the way if you’re interested in moving down here, email me. I can connect you to awesome real estate agents.
Here’s what it looks like on the end of the island. There’s really nothing down here except a parking lot and a boat ramp. Across the Cape Fear River on the other side is Bald Head Island. It’s really pretty and super remote.
There’s also a ferry down on the south end of the island. You can take your car across the Cape Fear to the community of Southport. Nearby is the North Carolina Aquarium which is a popular place to view and interact with species native to the North Carolina coast.
Just up the road from the Ferry are several areas where you can pull off the road and access the beach. Most of the time, it’s not very crowded at all. Just long stretches of sandy beaches.
On the south end of the island is Fort Fisher, which is a former confederate stronghold.
As you leave Fort Fisher you come to the town of Kure Beach. There are just about 2,000 people in Kure Beach. It’s a very small community with a few restaurants and touristy stuff. There isn’t a grocery store or a school here. A lot of the homes you see on both sides of the road are rental houses or condos. Again, the road we’re on now is one block off the ocean.
The homes on the left don’t have ocean access, but many have ocean views. Those homes are in the $750-$800,000 range, although many go for a million bucks. The homes on the right DO have ocean access and amazing ocean views and many are at least a million bucks each.
But overall, Kure Beach is a really neat place. It’s very quiet and clean.
Now at this point, we’re still heading north and we’re now in the town of Carolina Beach. It’s the biggest town on Pleasure Island. There’s about 5,000 full time residents in Carolina Beach, and again, lots of second homes and vacation rentals.
Carolina Beach is the main destination point for tourists on this island. This is where you’ll find a bunch of restaurants and bars and the traditional boardwalk scene with an arcade, candy, rides, and shops. Carolina Beach has one of this state’s few beach boardwalks in the region.
Carolina Beach also has a neat little marina where tour ships and fishing boats park.
Homes in Carolina Beach are far cheaper than in Kure Beach. Many are older and in need of repair. But you drive around this island - it’s hit and miss - some streets in CB have new and modern homes. It just depends on what street you drive on.
Most locals will tell you Carolina Beach is very laid back. It's certainly not fancy like nearby Wrightsville beach with all the snobs and extremely high home prices.

15 Reasons Appalachia Might Not Exist One Day
Please Follow this Channel.
We give all this money to other countries, and our own nation looks like this.
In the winter of 2023, I took a road trip through the Appalachia mountains. It was three weeks long. I wound through the turns and hollers across Kentucky, West Virginia and Tennessee.
This part of the country is the poorest, most drug addicted region in the country. The people who live here have been here for a long time, and most of them will never leave. They’ve seen the highs and lows of life just like you and I have. But the ups and downs for these people have been some really tough ones.
As you can tell, most of em are in a low right now. Really really low.

The Worst YouTube Comments About American Cities
Please Follow this Channel.
This is the future of America? Cause, wow.
So I was going through some of this channel’s comments the other day, and I was like - some of these comments are gold. And some of them are really mean and weird. The thing about YouTube comments is - most of the time, people are anonymous. So they say what they really feel. And you people feel very strongly about quite a few things. So I thought - I should share some of them with everyone who might have missed them.
For example, the video that started this all off was the video I published last year called I drove through the worst ghettos ever seen. In the video, I show some of the worst places I’ve ever visited - places like Camden New Jersey, Baltimore, Detroit, East Cleveland and parts of Pittsburgh. Though, I have to say, I’ve seen some areas even worse than some of these since that video was published.
But the comments on the video were very remarkable.
Like these.

I Went To The Wealthiest Reservation In California
Please Follow this Channel.
You've never seen Native Americans live like this. But things have changed.
Some Native American reservations are really sad. Like this place I visited in South Dakota called Rosebud. People are squished into trailers here, and they are not nice trailers. A lot of the people who live here have burned their own homes down while trying to cook meth.
Almost everyone here lives in poverty, and the life expectancy is about 50 years.
Say San Manuel reservation with the drone flying over.
And then, there’s this. This is the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians - about an hour east of Los Angeles. People here live in opulent mansions overlooking the valley. They oversee some of the best undeveloped land in Southern California.
It was my second to last day on a California homecoming road trip I took back in October. I was driving around the valley getting footage for another video - and I looked up at the hillside. Look at all those mansions, I thought. A lot of that’s new. I figured - I had just been to the poorest reservation in the country and now I’m seeing this extravagance hovering over my home town.
How do they live like kings and queens?
Because of this.

I Drove To The Worst Place In Vermont. This Is What I Saw.
Please Follow this Channel.
For all the grief I give the state of Vermont, it’s actually a really nice place to live. It’s full of charming small towns and pretty good schools. It’s really safe in most places, and it’s not crowded with traffic and homelessness and a holes you find in many pockets throughout this country.
Vermont has some pretty friendly people, although I can say I don’t agree with the know it all liberalism that permeates throughout the place. It’s rare to meet someone in Vermont who will ever admit they’re WRONG about their political viewpoints.
Despite the charm and the safety and the beauty, Vermont has problems just like anywhere else.
A spent a week in Vermont in early March of 2022. The goal was to explore all over, talk with some people and to show you guys some perspective on how Vermonters live.
Now, if you run data and talk to people in Vermont about where the worst places are to live here, a few cities and towns will come up. One is St. Albans. Another is Barre. Some say Rutland, and others say Brattleboro. I chose Brattleboro to make my point. They’re kinda all almost the same.
In this video, we’re going to drive through Brattleboro, a city of about 12,000 people. We’ll see what one of the worst places to live in Vermont looks like, and later, visit one of the best places in Vermont, too - the small town of Woodstock.
I think once you see what the worst places to live in Vermont look like you’re gonna be like - that would be a GOOD place in my state. And the point will be made, people.
Ahh the town of Brattleboro. This little place of 12,000 people is located way down near the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border in Windham County.
There’s enough to do for a family here, although it’s very much a small-town life. The type of place where you see people you know at the hardware or grocery store, or at church.
A home here is about $290,000 on average. That’s far below the US average of $350,000, but still higher than you might have expected.
It’s mostly clean and looks FAR better than other struggling places I’ve visited. I think you’d agree just by looking at the place. It’s a very white community - 92% of the population here is some shade of caucasian. But that’s how it is across ALL of Vermont.
So, what’s the problem? here Well, poverty and drugs mostly, although when you hear the numbers, you’ll get some perspectives. 11% of the population here lives in poverty, and the average income for a family is about $45,000.
There aren’t a lot of really good jobs here. But again, it’s like that in most of Vermont outside of the state capital of Burlington. The dairy and farming industries are in decline in this part of the state, so that doesn’t help.
Because of a lack of good paying careers, a lot of people either leave this state entirely, or they struggle. If you didn’t know, Vermont is one of ten states to see a population loss over the last decade.
Or, for those who stick it out, it’s hard to get ahead. Some work more than one job, others live in mobile home parks or rent. Brattleboro has the largest mobile home park in the state of Vermont.
Drugs are also a big problem in Vermont, as they are in many parts of the northeast.
I also spent time in many other parts of Vermont, and I wanted to show you what a NICE place in Vermont looks like. Not that Brattleboro is that terrible or anything. Just an hour north of Brattleboro is the community of Woodstock, which has just under 3,000 people.
While homes in Brattleboro are around $290,000, up here, it’s almost double that. Many of the homes close to downtown are far more than a million dollars each. You’d have to drive out into the rural edges of town to find something under a half million bucks.
Woodstock was called the Prettiest Small town in America by Ladies Home Journal Magazine - whatever that is. But I believe it.
By the end of my week in Vermont, I was sick of the cold. One day it was zero degrees.
Get this - they have Subaru specific parking spaces at some joints in town. That’s elitist and segregationist if you ask me.
I spent time in Killington and killed it on a powder day.
I walked a segment of the Appalachian Trail when I was there

I Visited Every Corner Of Florida. This Is What I Saw.
Please Follow this Channel.
This is Florida?? Who would have thought that Florida has so many different types of regions??
In May of 2022, I spent 17 days driving throughout the state of Florida. I wanted to see every type of place - the rural panhandle, famous beaches, urban sprawl, poverty and wealth. I met a lot of interesting people and saw things here that I didn’t expect. I like Florida, but I was also here in early May, which meant less crowds and cooler temperatures.
Florida is changing a lot. A lot of the people I talked to complained about the cost of living, the rise in crime, the crowds and all the new housing developments. There’s a lot to love about Florida, and there’s a lot to dislike, too. We’ll see both sides of the state.
Right now, I’m going to show you unedited glimpses of the Sunshine State. We’ll cover a little bit of every piece of Florida that I saw. I hope you enjoy it.

I Ventured Into The Most Dangerous Place In The South
Please Follow this Channel.
Who would have thought Alabama was like this?
We're in Mobile, Alabama. Mobile sits along the Gulf of Mexico, just a short drive from both Mississippi and Florida. It’s a really neat area. The downtown is known for its history and charming streets, and there are lots of beaches nearby. Some people know about Mobile’s posh suburbs.
The population here is 187,000 and dropping. Not fast, but there’s been quite a few people who have moved from Mobile proper and into the suburbs where it’s a lot quieter and safer.
There’s a lot of good stuff here to talk about. But it’s Alabama, so it’s not gonna be perfect.

Alabama Has The Worst Poverty In The Developed World
Please Follow this Channel.
This isn't Central America or parts of Asia. This is right here in the USA.
The United Nations usually travels the third world, investigating all sorts of stuff that would make you sad. But one time ten years ago, someone tipped the UN off and was like - go check out rural Alabama if you want to see basic human rights violations. So they did. They came here and said these are usually things we see in the world’s least developed countries.
The UN said: Our report demonstrates that growing inequality and widespread poverty in Alabama affects almost 1 child out of every 5. This has deeply negative implications for the enjoyment of civil and political rights.”
The report added - we’ve never seen anything like this in the developed world.
So what can we do? Or do these people just like it this way?

I Found A Place In Alabama That's Actually Thriving
Please Follow this Channel.
Who would have thought this was in Alabama? You might be surprised.
The whole area is really neat. The Shoals as it’s called is made up of four cities - Muscle Shoals, Florence, Sheffield and Tuscumbia. There’s close to 200,000 people here on the banks of the Tennessee River.
Most of Alabama is very wide and flat, and perfect for agriculture. Here, it’s kinda hilly. So the place has always had a unique culture to Alabama.
I think it feels more like Tennessee than Alabama. It’s a lot more progressive here than the rest of the state, although people here vote conservative in large numbers. To me, the Shoals doesn’t feel very southern, but there’s still a lot of charm.

This Is What Life Is Like In Small Town Arkansas
Please Follow this Channel.
Who would have thought this was Arkansas?
It sorta looks like it might be a touristy town, but it’s becoming more of a place to retire these days. Lots of old timers come here and see how we’re on the edge of the Ozarks and they see the home prices, and they’re like - you know what? I think I might stake a claim in this county.
There’s about 12,000 people here today, and every day someone moves to town. You can’t blame em.
Mountain Home is in between two lakes - the Norfork (ding) and Bull Shoals. This was actually one of the first water resort towns in the region because of all the fishing and boating they have here. There’s even a little bit of shopping, and dining and golf.

I Found A City That Walmart Hasn't Destroyed Yet

You hardly ever see this in America anymore!
There's a part of the south that you haven't heard of before. It’s called Northwest Arkansas. It’s this whole corner up here at the base of the Ozarks, right up by Oklahoma and Missouri. It’s made up of four cities - Bentonville, Rogers, Springdale and Fayetteville. It was always just this quiet little corner of the state with a bunch of suburbs and the University of Arkansas. No one really talked about it much.
Until now. Now, this is the boomenest place in the entire state. Maybe in the whole region.
And it’s all because of Walmart.

Here's What Washington, DC Looks Like These Days
Please Follow this Channel.
Wow this place sure has changed!
There’s no place on the planet like Washington, DC. Our nation’s capital. The center of democracy. Home to all of our branches of the federal government, home to the supreme court, and home to our sitting president. Our history and our future all have a place here.
We’re gonna drive around parts of Washington DC and look around a little bit. We’ll see some nice areas, some bad parts of town, and discuss problems that exist here, like they do in every other American city.
Right now, we’re in an area of town called the Mall. Here are all of the monuments and important buildings where laws are written and enforced. It’s a very nice part of town. In fact, most of the heart of DC is very pleasant. There are tourists all over and locals come down to frolic on the grounds and or dine.
DC sure has changed a lot. They’ve gentrified parts of town that were ruined by riots 50 years ago. Many neighborhoods like this were in a bad place in the 1980s, and DC’s population plummeted by 25% by 1990 due to crime and a crack epidemic. In 1992, Washington DC was the murder capital of America.
But most places you drive through now have completely recovered, and it’s super expensive to live here again. There’s nothing over a million bucks on this street. There are a bunch of young millennials moving in in neighborhoods like this. How they can afford it, I don’t know. Most cannot.
One of our nation’s capital’s issues is its economic gap. It ranks in the top ten for cities with the biggest gap in income equality. The racial disparity here is also quite evident. All of the upscale toney neighborhoods like this are white, and the ghetto hoods are all black. There’s very little working poor or middle class here.
Now I didn't explore every square inch of this city and I'm sure there are parts of it that resemble the old DC where it's dirty and rundown and where the criminals prey but I didn't see it and I am glad.
The far east side of town across the Anacostia River on the fringes of DC is where it’s the worst. This whole area was the center of the crime and the drugs and was completely ghetto. Today, it too is going through an urban renewal of sorts.
If you left DC 20 years ago and came back, you wouldn’t even recognize the place.
After a big turnaround of two decades of growth, things here seemed to have peaked for now. DC’s population declined by 3 percent in the last year.
And, like every other major city, Washington DC has a huge homeless crisis on its hands. Scattered throughout the city are homeless encampments like these. Some are vacated, others house people who have been here for a long time. Most of the homeless I talked to said they were waiting for affordable housing. For some, it was a many years wait. In the meantime, they go back and forth between cheap motels and shelters, accepting handouts and finding a way to get by.
While in DC I walked around at night. It’s totally clean, and to be honest, pretty dead. This is just blocks from the white house. It’s easy to feel very safe this close to the capital, but you never feel like you’re ALONE. Like there are probably people watching every square inch from the tops of these hotels and office buildings.
I walked past big buildings that looked very important. The columnullur designs were very impressive.
And you’re always reminded about politics no matter where you go in DC.
I also went to the top of the W hotel to get a neat view of the white house and surrounding area. Lots of people were dressed up like they were important. And they played Jason Derulo quite a bit up here, which is weird.
Some would say the worst part of DC isn’t the poverty or the crime or the racial inequality. It’s the politics itself. The politicians themselves. The guts of the place and the reason for its existence. There’s not a lot of faith in the people who run this place anymore. As DC gets more toxic and divided and completely removed from the realities of all Americans, there will be a stain on this town that all the gentrifying can never remove.

New Orleans Is Broken And Crumbling. Can It Be Saved?
Please Follow the Channel.
New Orleans is broken. It's literally crumbling. No one wants to be police. They tried to recall their mayor. But still, it's a wonderful place.
This is Day 1 of a multi-week road trip that explored the deep south of America.

We’re in Natchitoches - kinda way out in the middle of Louisiana, surrounded by farms and trees. It's really pretty out here. You may have even heard of it before. Natchitoches has been talked about in all the trade magazines for years now.
This is the oldest permanent settlement in the original Louisiana purchase. This was originally a French outpost where they traded all their crops. It was a pretty big deal a long time ago. Indigo, tobacco and of course, cotton were grown all over this region.
By the time 1950 came, they didn’t need as many farmers, so people started leaving. When the 1970s arrived, the businesses started boarding up, and the place looked pretty bad. We know the story. Happens all over.
But this place has a happy ending. For now.

Did you ever think IOWA would look so appealing? Cause it does!

Red Oak is in southwestern Iowa. It’s a clean cut community surrounded by corn fields about an hour east of Omaha, Nebraska. If you didn’t know about it, it would be hard to miss. Over the last years, the number of people who live here has been going down at a steady number. Some years, 40 folks leave town. Some years 100 people do. It’s all for the same reasons - kids want more exciting things to do, and there aren’t a lot of white collar jobs out this way.
As we’ll see, Red Oak might be shrinking, but not because it’s not great here.
If you look around the town square, you’ll see a lot of construction going on. Lots of the store fronts are getting fixed up, and there are new leases in the works. Above the storefronts, there are new apartments and condos springing up. There’s a lot of opportunity here for small businesses and families who want a cheaper, safer life.
I drove around Iowa for an entire week and stopped in every small town I came to. I have to say - you could do a lot worse for a small town in Iowa. Many of the small towns I saw looked stagnant. Not here.
