The Barbie movie came out on July 21st, and I was there at the first showing, mostly to review it but also out of curiosity. There was a lot of talk, mainly from Barbie actress Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig, that this was a subversion of what Barbie is and that it is a feminist-forward movie. And indeed it is, but it is so much worse than that. My main message is, if you have young daughters or girls in your life, DON'T LET THEM WATCH THIS MOVIE. For their own sanity and sense of self-worth. It might be time to sue Mattel for false advertising. The Daily Mail recently posted on-set pictures of Disney's newest live-action remake, Snow White, and people had reasonable questions about this newest failure before its even been released. Most of the criticism comes from the terrible-looking costumes, the decision to cast Rachel Zegler, and the lack of little people actors to portray the dwarfs. While Disney and their foot soldiers will come out to say that any criticism is 'racist', more and more people are starting to see through the facade of big corporations and their attempts at fulfilling the DEI and CEI requirements of their investment companies' requirements. Canadian Bill C-18 or the 'Online News Act' was passed into law on June 22. This would have imposed a 'link tax' on any news links shared on social media and other platforms, effectively forcing companies to pay for the sharing of Canadian news. The movie Sound of Freedom, released on July 4th and starring Jim Caviezel, is based on the real life efforts of Tim Ballard who has dedicated a majority of his life to fight child sex trafficking. While this may not seem at first like the best subject for a summer movie hit, it has become one as more and more people find the courage to watch it and begin to understand why it is so important for everyone to see it. However, the mainstream media and Hollywood don't seem to agree, either because they -for some strange reason- don't want the public discussing child sex trafficking, or because it is a threat to the industry as an independent movie with a tiny budget that is making a big impact reaching all the way to #1 in the box office. The movie was filmed and finished all the way back in 2018-2019, produced and directed by two Mexicans: Eduardo Verástegui and Alejandro Monteverde and was originally owned by 21st Century Fox Latinoamerica. However, after The Walt Disney Company bought Fox, they stopped the release of the film. During the pandemic, none of the streaming services wanted to release it either. It eventually found its new home at Angel Studios and was quickly released on US Independence Day 2023. While currently only available in Canada and the US in limited theatres, it will release worldwide in the coming months. France has been embroiled in riots over police shooting and killing 17-year old Nahel Merzouk. However, while many people chose to focus on the effects of immigration into European countries, the lack of purpose of young people, and the racial aspects of the anger in France; there is a bigger story of why riots like these keep happening throughout western nations. The Canadian Independent reported that on June 20, CBSA officers (Canadian Border Services Agency) paused work for TWO HOURS to watch a Drag Show with drag queen Tyonmi Banks (who was previously featured on Drag Race Canada) at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). This past Saturday June 24, there was a tiny march held in East Vancouver for 'trans lives'. We decided to show up and record, peacefully and without disturbing, to show what the activists are up to. This march ended up going to the East Van Pride event happening at Grandview Park, where there were 'all-ages' activities and plenty of children amongst the half naked drag queens and booths will all sorts of inappropriate paraphernalia. We also ran into a communist handing out a 'manifesto' while surrounded by all the Pride corporate sponsors. Oh, the irony. Religious parents in Glendale, California and also in Maryland clashed against antifa outside school board meetings.
