I’ll Fly Away - Preservation Hall Jazz Band & The Del McCoury Band - Music Rewind Favorite Clips
The Preservation Hall Jazz Band & The Del McCoury Band performing together on The Late Show with David Letterman. They performed the traditional New Orleans song “I’ll Fly Away”, which is a track off their 2011 collaboration album American Legacies.
“The title of American Legacies is plural because it represents both the legacies of jazz and bluegrass in the identities of its principals, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Del McCoury Band. That makes for a felicitous pairing of traditional Southern styles that leans toward one and then the other, but is at its best when the musicians blend together.“

“And When I Die” is a song written by American singer and songwriter Laura Nyro. It was first recorded by the folk group Peter, Paul and Mary in 1966.
The song is best known for the version recorded by the jazz-rock group Blood, Sweat & Tears in late 1968. This recording reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and became a Gold record. In the US, it was kept from #1 by the double A-side “Come Together”/“Something” by The Beatles.[1] “And When I Die” also reached No. 1 in Canada in December 1969 after 3 weeks at No. 2 also due to The Beatles.

My Top 15 Live Albums
A recent recording of Music Rewind prompted a guest to suggest a live album to me that I had never heard before (Counting Crows - Across A Wire). This sent me down a rabbit hole into some of my favorite live albums ever since. I hope you enjoy my list and please let me know any great live albums I missed.
By definition, a Live Album is a recording of a concert or a performance in front of some sort of audience. Straight from the artist to the listener, without any studio magic.
My top 15 is fairly set in stone (at the moment) but there is always room on the honorable mentions list.
What are your favorite live albums?

Master of Puppets is the third studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released on March 3, 1986, by Elektra Records. Recorded in Copenhagen, Denmark at Sweet Silence Studios. It was the band’s final album to feature bassist Cliff Burton, who died in a bus accident in Sweden during the album’s promotional tour on September 27th, 1986.
Master of Puppets peaked at number 29 on the Billboard 200 and received widespread acclaim from critics, who praised its music and political lyrics. It is widely considered to be one of the greatest and most influential metal albums of all time, and is credited with consolidating the American thrash metal scene. In 2015, Master of Puppets became the first metal recording to be selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Mystery Mix-CD Treasure Hunt #23: Disney, Etc
I recently found a treasure trove of old Mix-CD’s I made back in the olden days. Since I have zero recollection of what I put on these, I figured I’ll find out with all of you.
This round the pick is “Disney, Etc” - from around 2008.
This CD is a collections of classics from my childhood that I felt the need to immortalize on physical media. There are some wonderful tunes in here, and a few bits of filler. Classic Disney did it right though, Roger Miller, Louis Prima, Julie Andrews. All just amazing. Not to mention the bangers from A Goofy Movie. THE underrated gem of all Disney movies. Loved it as a kid, brings a tear to my eye as a father.
1. I Wanna Be Like You - Louis Prima (The Jungle Book)
2. The Bare Necessities - Phil Harris (The Jungle Book)
3. Kiss The Girl (The Little Mermaid)
4. The Phony King of England - Phil Harris (Robin Hood)
5. Beauty & The Beast - Angela Lansbury (BATB)
6. Nobody Else But You - Bill Farmer & Aaron Rohr (A Goofy Movie)
7. Chim Chim Cher-ee - Dick Van Dyke and Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins)
8. Part Of Your World - Jodi Benson (The Little Mermaid)
9. Feed The Birds - Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins)
10. Stand By Me - The Ventures
11. When You Wish Upon A Star - Cliff Edwards (Pinocchio)
12. Oo-Da-Loddy - Roger Miller (Robin Hood)
13. Tomorrow - Andrea McArdle (Annie)
14. The Flesh Failures/Let The Sunshine In - Broadway Cast of Hair
15. I2I - Tevin Campbell (A Goofy Movie)

Billy Joel & Ray Charles - Baby Grand - Music Rewind Favorite Clips
Billy Joel & Ray Charles singing Baby Grand in 1986. One of my favorite duets of all time.
“Baby Grand” is the fourth and final single released off Billy Joel’s album The Bridge. A duet with Joel and Ray Charles, the song is a ballad dedicated to the baby grand piano, and the relationship it can share with its players. The two originally got together when Joel contacted Charles about the naming of his daughter, Alexa Ray, after Charles. Charles then suggested they create a song together.

Mystery Mix-CD Treasure Hunt #22: Mix 11
I recently found a treasure trove of old Mix-CD’s I made back in the olden days. Since I have zero recollection of what I put on these, I figured I’ll find out with all of you.
This round the pick is “Mix 11” - from around 2004.
This CD would be a snapshot of the changing pop-punk scene around 2004, heavily influenced by the Spider Man 2 Soundtrack. During this time, I was working in D.C. and had to drive back and forth to Delaware a lot. I can now remember each of these songs playing loudly as I drove over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
1. Meant To Live - Switchfoot
2. Memory - Sugarcult
3. Gifts & Curses - Yellowcard
4. The Reason - Hoobastank
5. Slither - Velvet Revolver
6. Roses - Outkast
7. Miss You - Blink 182
8. Vindicated - Dashboard Confessional
9. Did You - Hoobastank
10. Hold On - Jet
11. Ocean Avenue - Yellowcard
12. Woman - Maroon 5
13. This Photograph Is Proof (I Know You Know) - Taking Back Sunday
14. Lucky You - Lostprophets
15. The Night That The Lights Went Out In NYC - The Ataris
16. Rollover D.J. - Jet
17. Cold Hard Bitch - Jet

Mystery Mix-CD Treasure Hunt #21: Sleep #shorts #music
I recently found a treasure trove of old Mix-CD’s I made back in the olden days. Since I have zero recollection of what I put on these, I figured I’ll find out with all of you.
This round the pick is “Sleep” - from around 2007.
A simple title of Sleep is a good giveaway that this one was burned for me to drift away at night. The year 2007 was well before my first iPhone, so I had several sleep CD’s that I would cycle through. This seems to be the only one that survived for some reason. Overall, it is an interesting snapshot of tunes, especially to drift off to sleep.
1. Hey, Hey - Dispatch
2. Patience - Dreamgirls Cast
3. Sister Golden Hair - America
4. Somewhere Over The Rainbow - IZ
5. (Ghost) Riders In The Sky - The Outlaws
6. Beast of Burden - The Rolling Stones
7. Little Wing - Stevie Ray Vaughn
8. Sundown - Gordon Lightfoot

Mystery Mix-CD Treasure Hunt #20: Cali Music #shorts #music
I recently found a treasure trove of old Mix-CD’s I made back in the olden days. Since I have zero recollection of what I put on these, I figured I’ll find out with all of you.
This round the pick is “Cali Music” - from around 2008.
This CD is less music from California, which there is plenty of on here, but more a CD I burned before a business trip to Southern California. I needed something to put in the rental car as I drove San Diego to Camp Pendleton several times a day for a few weeks. Taking “Cali” out of the mix and you have a pretty solid mix CD here. Beach Boys, Janis, Cake, Incubus, Pumpkins, and probably my favorite Red Hot Chili Peppers song.
1. Hotel California - The Eagles
2. Evil Ways - Santana
3. Gallow’s Pole (live) - Page & Plant Unledded
4. Love Rollercoaster - Red Hot Chili Peppers
5. Ou Ye Como Va - Santana
6. Rocket - The Smashing Pumpkins
7. California Girls - The Beach Boys
8. Samba Pa Ti - Santana
9. Short Skirt/Long Jacket- Cake
10. Good Vibrations - The Beach Boys
11. I Will Survive - Cake
12. Me & Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin
13. Wouldn’t It Be Nice - The Beach Boys
14. I Heard It Through The Grapevine - CCR
15. Heaven - Los Lonely Boys
16. A Certain Shade Of Green - Incubus
17. You Can Call Me Al - Paul Simon
18. Doolin’ Dalton - The Eagles
