About the Steel I use.
I am using 01 steel which is great for knives but is just ok for swords. If you have a choice of steels I recommend you go with 5160. You can also use the leaf spring from a car. Can get it at a junk yard. This is usually 5160.

How to Make a Sword forge
✅ Support Will via Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/epicfantasy
✅ Tip Jar: via PayPal to: https://www.paypal.me/supportwill
This is a tutorial on how to make a sword forge. This is a type of forge with a long fire pot. This way you can heat up the complete length of a sword. This is necessary for heat treating the blade (hardening and tempering). And this is difficult to do with a normal forge.
This also solves the problem of heat treating a sword if you made it by stock removal.
You can make a sword without a forge or an anvil by stock removal. But you still have the obstacle of heat treating the blade. With the sword forge you can successfully heat treat it.
I show you the actual sword forge and I take you through the whole process by building a small model of the forge. This tutorial shows you all the concepts so you can make your own sword forge with whatever materials you have available to you.
I have lots more helpful information on this project on my website including pictures of the blower, cutting the drum and more:

Make a Fruit Mead Honey Wine - A New Improved Method
This is a tutorial on how to make a fruit Mead Melomel. I use a different technique where we add the fruit later in the ferment rather than right away. This is a good technique for beginners because it allows the Mead to build up an alcohol level which will discourage any bacteria on the fruit from growing in the mead.
In this video I take you through the whole process of making mead from beginning all the way through bottling and even wax stamping the bottles.

How to forge a letter opener
This is a blacksmithing video where I show you how to make a medieval style letter opener. It is medieval style because we keep the steel very raw looking. And in this video I show you several different techniques that a blacksmith commonly uses in forging and making things. We also take a look at the importance of the edge of the anvil. We commonly think of smithing as hammering hot steel on the flat top of the anvil but the edges of the anvil are very important and where a lot of the work happens.
I show you six blacksmithing techniques in this video:
Upsetting metal
Pointing a bar
Drawing out
curving
flatting
Beveling

Forge a Pineapple Twist
In this video we visit with Vincent Krava of Dragon's Head Forge in Ohio. And he shows us step-by-step how to make something called a Pineapple Twist in a length of mild steel. It is a great looking twist that is terrific for a weapon handle.
Some other things that he shows us is a spring loaded hold down to hold work on the anvil and he uses a brass hammer to manipulate the steel without distorting it. He also uses a standard blacksmith tool called a flatter.
Great tutorial and a terrific blacksmithing technique.
